I’m old fashioned. When I finally get my tank set up I’m covering it with glass if possible to keep the fish in and reduce evaporation down to almost zero. Always ran down to my local hardware store whenever I got a new tank as a kid where they cut me the size I wanted & I covered the edge with that white tape (probably not made anymore) to prevent cuts. I also always placed rock on top of sand… thought that made it more stable & less stress on bottom glass, but in those days we used under gravel filters

Have a 29 gallon biocube and about the set up a 240 with 40 gallon sump. These videos are very helpful thanks for doing them.

I saw another video where person placed aquascape on leftover pieces of yoga mat (trimmings from mat he used to place between tank and stand) so as not to scratch bottom, then filled with sand. Would you recommend this method? Or perhaps a different cushion material?

Why not build aqua scape on flat rock and on bottom, then sand?

Im cycling my 900 liter tank , and many Say i should run my protein skimmer during the cycle... i think i shouldnt , because thats Just bad for the bacteria when you have no fish and no food for them ... also I prefer dark start at least the first month ( 1-2 months)

I would agree with you, no skimmer and no lights... I've found that if you have your lights on it causes algae problems before the bacteria have had a chance to colonize the rock, good luck with the cycle.
