I love how Chronicles of St. Mary's handles time travel, personally. History (capital H) will actively and consciously defend itself against alteration, for example if you were stupid enough to try to shoot a 'contemporary' (someone or something from the time period), your gun WILL jam no matter what, and probably explode in your face for good measure. The only things which can be removed from the past or meaningfully altered are ones which would have played no meaningful further part in history due to being imminently destroyed, which pretty much becomes standard operating procedure for the organisation, usually burying the rescued items elsewhere or some such in order to keep them 'authentic' as far as carbon dating is concerned. It never hurts to score brownie points with History since it does seem to be more charitable toward good-faith actors who go out their way to avoid causing it problems.
