Join me on a captivating journey as I breathe new life into a family heirloom - a 1968 Torino GT Fastback. This classic gem, a testament to automotive elegance, was lovingly preserved in a barn for decades, a silent witness to the passage of time. Gifted by my grandparents, who harbored dreams of its restoration, this Torino waited patiently for its moment to shine again. With each frame of this timelapse, watch as I meticulously restore it to its former glory, honoring the legacy of the past while infusing it with a new spirit. From its dusty origins to its stunning completion, this restoration story is not just about reviving a car; it's a journey of preserving family history and fulfilling generational dreams. As this project reaches its end, I stand ready, eager to embark on my next automotive adventure. Witness the transformation of a lifetime and be inspired?

Yeah, looking back on it, it definitely wasn't a full one, but it sure was a lot of work. Before I started this project I didn't even know how to change a spark plug, it was a fantastic experience.

Thanks for the reminder. You are right. I think it’s neat that your son is interested with cars and working and learning about those things. Sounds like you and him have a good relationship. I’m retired, my wife and I have raised 11 children, all ours, 5 are boys. As they were growing up, only one really got into doing his own work. Oh well that’s fine. Hope you’re project continues to go well. 👍🏻

Great restoration My younger brother had the same car and he repainted it and I ordered the stripe set for it as I worked at a Ford dealer it looked better than new with Amarion paint But he parked it on the street in front of our house Late at night a drunk driver hit an totaled it out just a week after it was finished this was back in the 1970s Good to see one being rebuilt

Your grandparents were smart to keep it. I sold my '68 390 GT Torino fastback red with white C stripe white interior many years ago. I miss that car and I proposed to grandma (my wife) in it. Wish I still had it. Glad to see a survivor still being loved by a family member. Nice restore and I think keeping the patina on the paint is the right move. Good Job!

Nice restoration here. Got a friend who is a Ford mechanic and has one like it. His is a 1969 model in green with bucket seats. I see you used the "Bullitt" wheels. Being it is a 1968 model. You got the same style wheels used on the 1968 Ford Mustang on the classic Steve McQueen movie.

Nice ride and AC, sweet. Mark the hoses and solid pipes on your AC hoses, before cutting crimps at 45degree angle, that way; if you go to a hydraulic shop and have R134 hoses made, the new rubber hoses will curve perfectly to evaporator and condenser. R134 refrigerant has smaller molecules than R12, new R134 hoses have plastic liner to keep refrigerant from leaking out. R134 will leak out of original R12 hoses. Hope that makes sense?

@@JosephStalin1941 You too. Good luck with the Catalina. That’s going to be sweet. Most of the mechanical work is done on mine. Next is the electrical - whoever worked on it before probably knows what’s going on but every time I try to work on it, I just see a mess. Got a new wiring harness waiting on Dakota Digital to send the gauges before I get going on it.

I used rust removal to eat away all the surface rust then, I sprayed it off which left it bare metal, so I polished it with a heavy polish, and ceramic coated to keep it from rusting again. And it turned out beautiful

First I 100% agree it's great to see younger kids appreciating classic muscle. But I completely understand why it's different for the newer generation. From the mid 70's to the late 90's those late 60's early 70's muscle cars were the fastest cars you could buy. They ruled the roads for 30 years. But for younger kids, cars just kept getting better and better every year. To each their own. I'm rebuilding a '69 Torino right now. My son is 17 and his dream car is a Volkswagen Bus. If some kid is into tuning a Honda Civic or a Subaru WRX, I say power to them. That's the beautiful thing about this. Find what YOU like, build it the way YOU want, and make it your own. Just because it might not be what I am into or the way I would do it, doesn't mean it isn't cool to somebody else. There are times when I see something and think, "Whoa, that's terrible. I can't believe somebody would do that to that poor car." But I would never say it out loud because it might be the car that somebody has dreamed about for years and who am I to $#!t on somebody else's dream. anthonycassata5152, I'm not saying that is what you are doing. This is just my public service announcement to the car world.

I have a '69 GT. My OLDER brother was telling me that it was a waste and that no one under 50 cares about those cars. I said, "So what, I'm over 50." One of my coworkers has a new Audi something. He brags that its the fastest production car Audi makes. My 17 year old son was impressed that someone I worked with had an R8. I told him it wasn;t an R8, it was some "electric" car. His response was "Electric car? That doesn't count. Electric cars aren't cool." 17 years old. BTW: My daily driver is a Nissan Leaf. My work has charging stations we use for free. I don't even have to pay for the electricity. The money I save on gas goes into restoring my 10 mpg '69 Torino GT.
