Completely agree. I mean imagine if for the 60th they did a series spanning anniversary with every episode featuring a different Doctor (Or Doctor pairing - E.G. Eight and Twleve) facing a common threat that unravels across the season, and more plot threads opened or explored through the likes of Big Finish and Titan Comics, with the final episode (The 60th itself) seeing all the threads come together and paid off.

And I'm glad the Roger Delgado Master actually shows up in one of these. I often feel like the original is the least used in new Dr. Who media, and it bums me out. I feel like even the Eric Roberts version gets more coverage, and he was a briefly-seen, temporary body.* *I'm glad Roberts gets to do these, if he enjoys doing them. I just wish their original version of the character actually got to do stuff from time to time. And not just against the 3rd Doctor, on Earth, with UNIT there. The man has a TARDIS. The Ainley Master has faced several incarnations. Dreyfuss has met two or three in his brief involvement. Pretty sure Beevers has met all of them, or one day will.

I really will have to get that! I love 12 so much. I read/watch/listen to an entire story arc of those two. Even if they were just buying groceries together. Anything, really. So nice to see Delgado acknowledged in the new stuff, even if only rarely. I'll be buying that. Thanks. 😎👍☀

"Timelord Victorious" is a 10th Doctor term and one that in my opinion works best with 10. I think 8 and 9 work well in this context because they can look on in dread to what they could become, while also reminding 10 of what he is slipping away from. As for 13, I think she serves well as an example that shows how The Doctor can still be redeem ever during this dark chapter of their life. As for as I'm concerned, each Doctor has their place & role within the story and I'm excited to see where events will take us.

Genuinely surprised to hear people are harping on this. Okay yeah, I never really took a look at what other people thought (because I didn't and don't care) but when I first heard about this I was incredibly excited! So I just kinda assumed other people would be too (I dont usually find my opinion straying far from the majority). This is such a cool project and probably the only circumstance in which we'll see all the different licence-holders/creative teams come together like this to tell a consistent story - something I've always wanted but knew we'd never get as standard practice. And a potential benefit of not tying in with the show itself: less sense of a "time limit" within which to engage with it. If there were episodes airing on TV that tied into all this, I think a lot of people would feel pressured into getting as many of the books, audios etc. as possible before they aired in order to get the most out of it, which would be difficult for fans such as myself who need to save their money a bit more (damn that mortgage...) But without a TV element, I know I can go read/listen to whatever bits I'm interested in whenever it becomes convenient/affordable for me, even if that's, like, a year from now or something. The only stuff involved that does come with a sort of time limit would be the live events & escape rooms etc. but they don't feel as essential as the show's involvement would (plus I'm just not personally worried about those anyway, as cool as they look). This was a lengthier comment than I had planned but you get my point: I'm really into the idea of Time Lord Victorious and though I'd never even considered the idea of them doing a second one of these until Davis floated the idea here, the prospect of that is exciting too!

And if this is people’s first exposure to the EU, um… welcome to the Doctor Who universe, where everything is made up and canon doesn’t matter lol.

Only Chibnill fanatics who plug there ears and shout "BIGOT!" at anyone who brings legitimate criticism against Chibnill's Doctor Who could possibly have a problem with past Doctors being revisited in new and exciting stories. That's what I love about Doctor Who. You can take it one story at a time or you can take them all. In fact earlier this year I got back into Doctor Who by just picking out episodes at random to watch. It's quite fun to go from a different Doctor or different series without feeling like you have to watch every single episode in the order they were released.

Time Lord Victorious is designed for those of us (most of the fandom) feeling doctor who withdrawal symptoms after giving up half way through or at the end of series 11. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the 13th doctor only got a cameo. After Chibby absolutely destroyed the legend of Doctor Who, Stephen Cole saw the vacuum it created within the fan base, Time Lord Victorious is an attempt to fill that vacuum. I don’t know who has the rights to use the thirteenth doctor but if they don’t, they’re probably telling BBC that they can keep it right away from TLV. Some executive probably insisted on the cameo as to avoid looking like they’re avoiding it... which is clearly what they are doing. TLV is a tasty Nostalgia Soup of previous doctors with a healthy base of GOOD STORY TELLING!!

Honestly this event has been a saving grace after how mixed the current Television run has been. Its honestly been really nice to follow and I find that each story isn't necessary to understand other than the BBC Books but each piece of media does tend to a nice detail or extra information to extend upon an element featured. Its honestly been a lovely experience for someone who generally enjoys the web of story approach were the bits of media you consume make the story bigger but still feel like you've got a complete story which is such a natural way of telling stories with a franchise that operates almost on a choose your own canon when it comes to its extended media. To put it more straightforwardly, absolutely loving it and generally can't understand the levels of hate its receiving. Its been a wonderful celebration of the unique story telling of Doctor Who that I hope will get another similar event around the next anniversary milestone and maybe some small scale ones inbetween.

I didn't know there was any controversy. I'm from the US so Doctor Who isn't something I discuss with many people. That being said I was very excited for this event and at first I was a little disappointed with the Titan Comics thinking it would be my one and done contribution to the event. Then I jumped in with the 8th Doctor audios, which spawned a huge new addiction that I never knew I had. I'm a straight man but my god do I have a strange guy crush on Paul Mcgann. Anyway back on track, the more I started getting the audios and the DWM comics I could start seeing what the development of the event was unfolding into. I feel like the meat and potatoes of this event is probably going to be the two main novels and everything else is just going to further enhance it. Overall, I'm having blast with this event to the point I bought the tie ins on the comic creator app. Only thing is being in the states, the delay from UK release to US released is a bit rough. But I have about 20 8th Doctor Audios to hold me over until then. Cheers.

As for TEnnant, people need to stop bashing him! He is a fan favourite, yes shoehorning him into the thirteenth doctor ranges is a bit much but stuff like TLV and Dalek Universe are HIS story and youre right its those mediums just being successful! f you dont like it dont bring everyone else down is what I say. I feel like DW:TLV - Is an apology for season 11/12. Moffat was happy for making BIG FINISH cannon. DW is in a terrible state at the moment. Chibnal can't tell a story (without a co-writer) to save his life. Children of Time made Jodie the 10015th Doctor (remember John Hurt and 10.5 Tennant)...Stealing another Race's time machine...making normal viewers not care if she dies (because she won't, she'll just regenerate into DR 10016th) and upsetting most fans with a Bad Retcon by a hack writer. That's why the viewership is in the toilet. From 13million-4million in 21 episodes is a record. BBC killed their cash-cow, not many people buying new books or classic DVDs now. For the fans who love the last 2 seasons, I'm glad someone is getting some worth from the millions of taxpayers who paid for it (including myself) now the franchise has been truley burried from the inpact of the crash from grace...I give it 5 years and a reboot later, for the BBC to be given any praises for this once great institution, and to see profits again!

I don't think TLV is bad, but your comparison to Marvel is pretty apt in all the bad ways, it's just... Way too much at once, it's overstuffed and dare I say intimidating . Look at the other larger franchise doing a large multimedia launch, Star Wars with the High Republic. They're doing it in phases, the first being three novels, a short story, a VR experience and 2 ongoing comic series. We get one big release, then a break until the next big drop. If TLV were more spaced out, it wouldn't be as bad, but right now it reaks of the kind of event fatigue expected at DC or Marvel, Marvel especially with The King In Black and X of Swords hitting not too long after their last big crossover.

A lot of people seem to want animations of Big Finish audios, but they're something I'm personally completely against. I feel like making animations of Big Finish audios takes away a big layer of charm with audio: the ability to visualise the story in one's own way with one's imagination. If Big Finish started animating their audios, it could be seen as them presenting a "correct" depiction of the story, rather than allowing the listener to visualise the story in their own way. Also, animating audio stories would be waaaaay less financially sustainable than just recording the audio, and I imagine would seriously screw up Big Finish's ability to make as many stories as they do. I can somewhat understand where you're coming from, but I personally don't think turning Big Finish audios into official animations is a good idea.

This is exactly why I prefer to experience Doctor Who as this great big multi-media franchise, rather than just the TV series. I hate where Chibnall's taking things, but I've absolutely loved every second of Time Lord Victorious, even if my wallet hasn't. (I've bought every story barring the Road to the Dark Times DVD and the Brian t-shirt).

I think the marketing has been both inspired and utterly shit. Doctor Who's extended media has an undeniable reputation of being impenetrable. It's big, it's lore-heavy, and it's scary. Whilst the marketing for Time Lord Victorious has had some genuine ingenuity put into it (it's not that hard, BBC), I feel more scared off than ever. Shame, because from what I've heard, James has gone some distance to ensure this new branch of the franchise is accessible and understandable to _any_ level of fan. I think if you're already an avid comic/novel/audio consumer, this is your wet dream. But as someone whose only now getting into the VNAs, I can't see myself hunting down graphs, piecharts and timelines for Time Lord Victorious. I'm too _scareddddd._
@SamyulDavis
@SamyulDavis 3 жыл бұрын
Hunting down graphs and timeline charts isn't a requirement though. You can pick up any of these like a normal Doctor Who story and get a story with no more distracting you than usual. You know those action figure lines where each figure comes with a separate body part? So that once you get the whole range you can put together another big figure? You still get what you pay for, with extra if you're so inclined! I don't think these are complaints that general fans would run into. It's just more Doctor Who, it's only an issue to completionists and collectors in my eyes.

Imagine if the UK got TV shows years after the US. Oh wait, that happens, and it's crap. I never had any doubt it would be good, and was astounded that people were moaning there wasn't enough information about it - maybe it was because it wasn't out yet! My only gripe is that the mainline event isn't performed (Big Finish) and it's instead prose. Hopefully next time it can be. And it can also include 13 (like 11 was included in Destiny of the Doctor in 2013, but better done). As much as I enjoy it, this era has really dropped the ball when it comes to adjacent media. By this point in Capaldi's era, there were 8 original audiobooks released already.

I don't have a problem with picking and choosing what parts of the story you engage with, my only problem is that the pay wall for some of it can be very expensive, and in the case of Time Fracture, can only really be enjoyed once in a life time.

One of the big reasons why it's 8, 9 and 10 as well is because Jodie just doesn't sell.
