Whitney was both angel, and goddess on stage. Incandescent, glorious, surreal. Every flicker of her fingers, that super model body, her face and that megawatt smile. When she would throw her head back and belt as her throat pulsed, it was amazing to see. If Whitney was one of the X-Men, she would be Phoenix. Power and control, at superhuman levels. One of the all time great voices, worthy of leading the choirs of heaven… Is Whitney.

@@hackealoconclips575He may have a wider vocal range and vocal skills as you say, but there is that certain something about her voice and her delivery that he does not have. That certain something that stirs the heart and reaches deep down into the soul and moves one's spirit. Her voice is one of a kind. This, to me, makes her a better performer then he will ever be. She pours her very heart and soul into her performances and does it in such a way that people can both see it and feel it. There will never be another Whitney Houston. That, of course, is my personal opinion.

@Gary_Jaffe
@Gary_Jaffe 4 ай бұрын
I absolutely love her - she is without a doubt one of the greatest singers the world will ever have the pleasure of experiencing. But, in her final decade, there was a significant change in the vocals. We know she was struggling with addiction and the enormous pressures that come with being a superstar, and it's clear that those realities were impacting her stunning, inspirational voice. I agree with what you say about how life experiences (and of course growing older) bring change to the sound of a singer's voice. But that normally occurs gradually, and fans understand and often embrace the richness of expression the years bring in exchange for some limitations in sound. Aretha in her 60's didn't sound quite like she did in her 30's - but there was added wisdom, heartbreak and roads traveled in her sound, and her voice retained many of the qualities and most of the power that made her a legend. It broke my heart to literally hear Whitney's pain as she struggled so publicly. It was tragically similar to what the world witnessed during Judy Garland's final years (1964-1969). Both women were not only magnificent singers, but artists who literally shared their hearts and souls with adoring, devoted fans. Their talent was evident. But it was their ability to masterfully communicate the depth and range of emotion - from exhilarating joy to unbearable pain - that elevated them from top-notch entertainers to artistic and cultural icons. But, the blood, sweat and tears required, year after year, to achieve that performance level takes its toll. One can easily understand why someone in that position would eventually feel a desperate need to escape that harsh, relentless spotlight. Whitney is missed by so many, but her astonishing body of work will allow generation after generation to discover her, be amazed by her, and understand she was one of the most gifted vocalists that the world has seen. ************ FROM THE WHITNEY HOUSTON WIKIPEDIA PAGE: Houston struggled with vocal problems in her later years. Gary Catona, a voice coach who began working with Houston in 2005, stated: "'When I first started working with her in 2005, she had lost 99.9 percent of her voice ... She could barely speak, let alone sing. Her lifestyle choices had made her almost completely hoarse.'" After Houston's death, Catona asserted that Houston's voice reached "'about 75 to 80 percent'" of its former capacity after he had worked with her. However, during the world tour that followed the release of I Look to You, "KZfaq videos surfaced, showing [Houston's] voice cracking, seemingly unable to hold the notes she was known for."

Whitney Houston later admitted herself that she sang the national anthem in the studio, they made it sound absolutely perfect because it was immediately put on cd and ready to be sold the day she lip-synced it on tv. It was all planned out. Is that fair to all the other singers who have to sing it live and get criticized for it?, no. But that doesn't take away from the fact that she gave a hell of a performance in the studio when she recorded it.

What I always loved from the very first time I ever heard her sing live to this day, is that she always changed the arrangement. There was no doubt she was live and not singing along to her single (like so many artists do). On some rare occasions I love the live rendition better than the recorded single. She definitely left all she had on the stage when she performed.... Yes!!! She did more than just sing, she went to a different place when she performed. She always has been and will always be my favorite. And I thank God for her. Her songs were there for me through so many occasions in my life.... RIP Whitney 🙏🙏🙏Forever grateful 💞💛💜❣️💕

Is there anything that wasn't top-notch about her voice? She literally excelled everywhere, tone, power, vibrato, resonance, diction, improvisation, tasteful embellishments, agility, unique sound not overly polished, head voice. She literally mastered all of those to perfection. And she's actually one of those old school singers who (almost) NEVER lipsynced and really had respect for their art and true love for LIVE singing.
