In this video, we show you how to install a TRD Supercharger on a 2002 Toyota 3.4 Liter V6 Engine. The 3.4 Liter engine was available on the following Toyota year and model vehicles:
* 3rd Generation 4runner (1996-2002)
* 1st Generation Tacoma (1995-2004)
* 1st Generation Tundra (2000-2006)
* T100 (1995-1998)
The Supercharger installed in this video was bought USED so if you bought yours NEW, you should already have everything you need to instal this. In this video we discuss the different items you will need to source in order to instal this supercharger successfully. Different year vehicles call for different routing of the vacuum hoses so please refer to the instructions to understand the routing of your specific year.

*PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT AND THE VIDEO DESCRIPTION FOR HELPFUL INFORMATION* *A stock 3.4 Liter V6 engine puts our 190 HP with 220 ft-lbs of torque. A 3.4 Liter V6 with a Supercharger puts out 260 HP with 260 ft-lbs of torque. You gain 70 HP and 40 ft-lbs of torque which is a pretty significant performance increase. But, this nice performance increase comes at a price. Toyota no longer manufacturers this supercharger but the company Magnuson, who happens to be the company who made the TRD supercharger for Toyota, still manufacturers it without the TRD logo on the top. They sell it for the low, low price of $3000. *You have a couple choices with getting a supercharger for your 3.4 Liter V6. You can do like Sean did and find a used one for sale, maybe on Ebay or Craigslist or you can buy a new one from Magnuson. If you are going to buy used, be sure to ask the seller if they are going to include all the associated hardware because some of these parts are hard to source. *In the part of the video where we're getting the supercharger belt in place, you'll notice the routing of the belt is different than the routing shown on the decal. This is because the decal is showing the proper belt routing if you are using a static pulley and not a dynamic tensioning pulley. *Hey guys this is Sean. This is a progress report on how the supercharger is doing: As soon as we installed it I took a trip to Tahoe CA. This is a good test to see how the supercharger performed in the hills & high altitudes. The extra power is definitely felt & helpful to get up those long inclines in the mountains. So far there has been no CEL & the power is significant. It really brings life into the 4runner & makes it fun to drive again! Especially if you have added extra weight this is a nice upgrade to have. If you have bigger tires than 285’s then re-gearing might be the right solution for you. Overall this MOD is pretty radical & if you have the money it’s a must have. A couple things I’ve noticed is some pinging at WOT especially in 4th gear. I’ve also noticed my gas mileage hasn’t really been affected that much. Timmy The Toolman @ Sean, I could even hear it pinging in the video on the test drive! It's that crappy Cal 91 gas. You still guna do a 7th injector? You might consider doing a methanol kit, that will help raise your octane and likely get rid of the pinging. Also will help cool the intake charge temps

Thank you Sandeep. The answer to your question is there are haters out there. Maybe somebody I rubbed the wrong way on a Toyota forum. Or, maybe someone who also makes Toyota videos and is jealous of us. Or, just some random jerk. It does make me laugh. There is no other video that comes close to this for installing a supercharger on a 3.4 liter V6. There's a time lapse video that shows the viewer basically nothing. There's some dude who just shows himself putting the supercharger on top of his engine in a 5 minute video which is equally worthless. The only video worth anything is one that is 7 minutes long. It does show useful information and gives a nice outline of the job but doesn't show any detail whatsoever. I sometimes question whether we're making our videos too long and turning off viewers but comments like yours let's me know we are doing something right and should keep on the same path. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and giving us your support. Happy Wrenching!

I agree. The thumbs downer must be a toyota hater. It sounds crazy but I've met people who hate having a reliable vehicle. They feel much better when they can see their vehicle on a tow truck. I've never seen a Toyota on a tow truck haha

This documentation deserves 2 Times a Five Star Ranking! At First it serves as a language lesson, AS the pronounciation of the narrator is very Clean english and covers plenty of technical vocabulary. The Video ist so awesomely professionaly detailed. Hey Pat, I don't know how big we'll get with what we're doing. We have a very narrow focus right now but if we branched out to other vehicles we might gain more followers. I don't know how much of a dent we're putting into the profits of Toyota dealerships and private shops but it is always awesome to hear how much money people save using our videos. Auto mechanics takes time, patience and an investment in tools so it's not for everyone. When I visit my local Toyota dealer for parts, there's a line of cars waiting to get into the service department. Safe to say, they are not hurting for customers willing to pay $150/hr. I'll let you know if I need your body guard services. Right now, I don't think anyone has put a hit out on me. But, you never know.

I had one installed on my 97 Tacoma in 2003 by my dealership. After 6 tanks of Super, the engine would still ping. They told me the engine computer had to get used to the new supercharger. I gave up in 2003, when I traded it in on my new 2003 Tundra. I had the supercharger removed, sold it, and got most of my money back. I think they have worked the bugs out of it since. Some guy suggested I cut down this video to 30 minutes because he though nobody would ever watch it at the length it's currently at. My response was we can't show a detailed install of the supercharger in 30 minutes. We would have to cut out important content which might be the difference of somebody having success following our tutorial or failure following it. @@TimmyTheToolman That's hilarious! Not only did I watch it completely, I paused and had to rewind several times. In fact, I only glanced at the provided installation instructions to verify my parts list, this video was my installation manual! I'm still not sure about the dipstick relocation bracket. Yes, it works but if you have to remove the belt and lower the tensioner, the relocated dipstick is in right the way. Again, freakin awesome job, keep the vids coming!

I got done installing a supercharger and it's a great upgrade if your running 33s or bigger. I highly recommend the 2.1 pulley and the urd 7th.

Turbo Chargers are exhaust gas driven, Blowers are mechanically driven. Both are SUPERCHARGERS in that both deliver intake air at a positive pressure above atmospheric pressure. Hence, forced induction. Both may be installed on an engine at the same time.

I know I'm late here, but I saw a post on the tacoma forums of a 3.4 that was supercharged it's whole life with 600k miles. 3 supercharger rebuilds over it's life but still incredible!

Guys, Here is what I really think. I am somewhat of a noob when I comes to wrenching -- I am not going to pretend otherwise. I think I am a good example of your target audience member. With this video and all of the associated information I feel totally confident that I could perform this sick mod on my 99 runner. Good job you've done it again. BTW anybody got $3k to donate to my 4runner fund? Damn I still need to do rear seals and bearings and then get into suspension. I am so far behind. Can't thank you guys enough for making this hobby fantastic and doable.

Important safety tip here folks.... if you are thinking of installing a brand new supercharger on a 21 year old 5vz-fe (99 T4R), be careful on torquing down the long bolt on the tensioner. The purchase of that bolt in the block, turns out to be only about 7mm. Needless to say, that small amount of old rusted threads couldn’t take the 40 ft-lb torque spec and it stripped. The threaded hole looks to be at least 10mm deeper than what the supplied bolt occupied....going to try a 20mm longer bolt, and take up any excess length with external washers. After waiting 4 months for the SC on back order from URD....off to Plan B for the bolt tomorrow.

The barbed fitting can be Tee'd to a boost gauge. The canister on top of the blower is a bypass valve. It helps maintain fuel economy during city driving, non boost conditions.

Honestly this was an awesome video, i mean really awesome!!!! I just came across this today. I have a 1997 4Runner, and its so underpowered and i would love to do this. I did look at Magnuson and it is still available, but the price has increased to almost $4,000, which isn't too bad for 6 years later. Thanks again.

After doing a few different forced-induction projects on vehicles like Infiniti G35s and Lexus IS series, I'm stunned at how easy Toyota made this. Those kinds of gains achieved safely without having to use an aftermarket ECU or serious upgrades to the fuel delivery system is pretty remarkable. In the grand scheme of things $3800 is a pretty good deal for something that is essentially plug-and-play. On any other project you can easily spend 5-10 hours just fussing with a Haltech ECU and/or upgrading fuel pump/returns.

Thanks. Glad you like the video and appreciate the detail we offer. A criticism I've heard several times about our videos is they are too long. It's always been my feeling that I'd much rather have too much information than not enough. My biggest complaint about videos is they leave out important details and leave you guessing how something was accomplished. We want people to have the best chance at success and that's why we try very hard to make sure we give the viewer everything they need, FSM pages, torque specs, part numbers, special tools needed, and links to other helpful info. Great video again boys! Could the "T" connector in the PCV hose be used somehow for an aftermarket oil catch can. I've seen a few guys add those in.

Dalandser from TW here. These engines sometimes throw a lot of oil into the intake. A lot of guys were using them in the old days of customtacos.com and ttora.com

After watching your vid there is no way to stop me doing this myself. It might be a bt different as you mentioned because mine is 1996 model but I think it can be done. for that supercharger throttle body gasket, did Sean notice a slight bump in power with the unrestrictive gasket? And can you run one with a non supercharged engine?

Sean has been running that TRD Supercharger throttle body gasket ever since we did his valve cover gasket 2 years ago. He had no issues with his engine over the last 2 years so I think it's safe to say you can run it without the supercharger. Does it improve performance for a stock engine? I don't think so. If there was any performance increase, it wasn't noticeable by Sean.

i removed the elbow in the fender of the intake, installed a stock replacement K&N filter in the stock air box, cleaned the MAF, used a SC gasket at the throttle body, port matched the intake manifold, and ran 92 octane gas. i got noticeable power and throttle response increases. ironically i felt absolutely no difference when i added exhaust headers. i did all of these things in prep for a supercharger, but wanted to feel the difference of each one along the way before installing it. porting & smoothing the manifold took 7 hrs with a carbide cutter.

4Runner4life98 the airbox mod+k&n & T-body gasket has been shown to add 9hp, compared to the "cold air intake" kits which only add 6hp. Porting the intake really did wake it up. I knew I was going to add a Supercharger last so it was worth it. Having the intake off gave me a chance to clean my intake ports rral good and also the injectors too.

Everything is great, except I wish you guys show more about 2000 and order model vacuum line diagram. but still great great video!!! Thanks

You're welcome and we're glad our video helped you out. We shared all the information we had on hand for this install. There are differences between the years and that seems to be the challenge getting all the vacuum lines in their proper locations. Good job getting it installed by yourself and not relying on a shop to do it for you. You probably got a great sense of accomplishment out of it and you saved yourself a lot of money too. Been so many years since I installed the supercharger..I'm going to have to check that TB gasket which claims you lose 1.5lbs of boost. I ended up purchasing Doug Thorley headers so I'm waiting on those. Can't wait to watch this video again and figure out the vacuum lines. I forgot to hook up the 4wd hose after the supercharger install which kept my 4wd from working for a few years.

It's definitely a good idea to get that open throttle body gasket in there over the OEM "D" shaped one.

I have a 96 that came with it , (2 owners original and me ) just under 10k was put on . Mine is slightly different I have a plate with idler pulley , 439.000 I strongly suggest 93 and also if you decide to add more boost mine goes to 12psi studs and MLS head gaskets. Freaking awesome job guys.

Nice job on the install. I wanted to note that I was taught in jet engine school to only click the torque wrench once, never twice. Probably not a big deal - FYI.

The T in the PCV valve tube was for an oil catch can, sometimes oil can come up through the PCV and go into the throttle body, hence the oil catch can.

Just wanted to say tackled my power steering rack inner and outer tie rods and upper and lower ball joints thank you for your help. And on changing the steering rack I found it easier to pull the steering wheel and line it back up with the wheels vs messing with the rag joint

You're commenting in the supercharger video but talking about the replacement of your steering rack, inner and outer tie rods and lower balljoints. I guess you figured we'd see your comment regardless and it didn't matter which video you commented in. Yeah, of course you could realign the steering wheel by pulling off it off and re-centering it. I don't know if it's any easier than making the adjustment at the rag joint but they both accomplish the same thing so good job getting it done. Good to hear our videos have helped you out.

I suggest an air fuel ratio gauge to watch. Also to adapt the tune if possible and to especially watch out for lugging the motor up a hill where it could starve.

Hey Ashley, I'm glad you like the video. I love hearing that people watch our videos for the pure entertainment value and just to learn about something. You know what, were sort of novices on many of these jobs. Neither Sean nor I have ever installed a supercharger before. We just researched the job as well as we could and followed the very detailed instructions that Toyota provided. I'd have to say a high percentage of the videos we've made, it was our first time doing that job. I tell people this so they understand there's really nothing special about us. We're just normal dudes that like to wrench and learn. I always say if people have the right information, the right tools, a willingness to learn and some patience, they can handle a lot of their own automotive repairs, maintenance and modifications. We're decent DIY mechanics but you could be just as good or even better than us. It's just like anything, if you put the time in, you could be a very knowledgeable and proficient mechanic. Our main goal of making these videos is to empower people to handle their own automotive mechanical needs and I hope that's what we've been able to do for you at some level. Great Job!!! The video is very clear and gives good step by step. I did my timing belt with all of the pulleys, water pump, fan bracket etc 55K ago. As I was driving recently, I felt a bucking like effect and the check engine light lit up like a Christmas tree! The analyzer was pointing rme to misfires, sensors, etc. Replaced them all and I still have the problem. I'm assuming that either I skipped a tooth of the Cog wheel is shot. I will be taking it apart tomorrow and we shall see what I find. Also, when I did the T-Belt a few years ago, the water pump came with a metal gasket. I was skeptical, but I went with it as recommended. I've never had a leak from it! I like it when things work as designed.

I took the timing cover off to check for TDC and to make sure that the crank pully was intact (and it was), I started to get a code for the up draft oxygen sensor. I replaced that and the truck was still giving me the same problem. I started to get cylinder 6 misfire code. I had two known working coils in my shed, so I swapped one at a time and still, no improvement. I decided to swap ignition cables to see if the misfire #6 cylinder would follow the cables, and it did. Now I was getting a misfire code from cylinder #4. This pointed to bad ignition wires. I went out and bought a new set of Denso wires, and that was the problem all along. The reason I didn't consider the wires of being bad was that they were replaced less than one year ago. I also threw in a new set of Denso plugs and discovered that the electrode part of the plug was spinning around in the body of the plug itself. I only replaced the plugs after I made the diagnosis of the wires and the truck was running normal again. That's when I changed the plugs. The coils were changed to a set of Denso less than a year ago as well. Never did I ever think that ignition wires would go bad in the middle of driving, but there is a first time for everything.

Nice, thank you for your work. I have a 1998 3rd Gen 3.4l V6 MT 4WD 212k that I want to outfit eventually; One of my understandings is similar to you patrons, if it brings the revs down lower with more power hill climbing it will lessen the possibility of over revving and potential rod knocking damage, increasing engine life. I didn't notice you upgrading your patrons existing FI's to the larger sizes, you might have mentioned that in directing to a different thread where you show it and I didn't notice? I will be installing the 7th FI as well and taking all precautions to upgrade the SC installation to the latest functionality. Before I attempt it I will watch the video several more times and thoroughly go over the steps that you mentioned at the end regarding the different hose setups of 1996-2000 3.4l T4R's. I am new to your YT Channel, you obviously have allot more how to videos that I would like to become more familiar with. All the Best

I put on the TRD supercharger with 7th injector on my 2000 4Runner Limited 80k miles ago and I've used 87 octane gas in it for the last 30k miles of it and I have had zero pinging and haven't noticed any difference at all. Just throwing that in there.

That's good to know. It seems the consensus on Toyota forums is only use 91 octane after the supercharger install. Is it the 7th injector that's allowing the use of 87 octane or do you think somebody could also use 87 octane without the 7th injector modification?

I truly don't know for sure but I've suspected that the 7th injector may have been the key. It has the TRD ECU piggybacked with the stock ECU. I watch my vitals fairly well using a tablet connected to my ODB2 via bluetooth and my long term fuel trim stays around the 14 zone. I only used lower octane because I got tired of paying so much more for gas. I'll just consider myself lucky. I'd like to swap out my injectors for bigger ones at some point as well but I don't want to have to take the supercharger back off. Perhaps when I have to put new bearings in it I'll do it all then. All I know is that I LOVE my 3rd gen 4Runner! I just drove from TN to AK last December and it didn't let me down. Driving through Canada in snow and ice was a blast! White knuckle fun! LOL

The only real downside to these is that it will increase wear in the rings, of course that comes with any engine that is turbo or supercharged. Also to stop the pinging, you need an octane booster. I used to run 104+ if they even still make it, or remove the catalytic converter and run airplane gas 100LL.

Thanks for the comment James. We have plans of installing a 7th injector and a tuner to deal with the pinging. We live in the People's Republic of California. No way we're going to get away with no catalytic converter. You can shoplift till your heart's content and defecate on the public sidewalks, but delete your catalytic converter, that's grounds for a public hanging.

I believe the TRD superchargers are manufactured by Magnuson, a US company, which would explain the SAE fastners.

Yes, they were made my Magnuson and it does make sense why they would use SAE as opposed to metric. But, it would have been nice if they would have used all metric since it's going on a Japanese vehicle with all metric fasteners.

I think if you add the 7th injector and a piggy back ecu it will go so much better also combine that with 4.8 diff ratios and it will be a little monster

There is a plan for the 7th injector and tuner. Sean hasn't mentioned re-gearing but we are going to have a couple videos coming out sometime in late June or early July that will show the process of re-gearing a front and rear differentials from 4.30 to 4.88 along with installing an Eaton locker in the front diff. The differential work is for my built 98 4runner.

This was a very well-detailed step by step video I feel confident after watching this I could do this myself you laid out all the tips and tricks and possible snags one might face that being said I am looking to buy a 3rd gen four runner so if I find one with an SC what questions should I ask the previous owner to avoid any surprises and what mileage range do you suggest I purchase one with an SC already installed also what price range should I look for. If you buy a 3rd Gen with a supercharger on it, you'll know by driving it if the supercharger is worn and making loud noises. I personally only buy used vehicles that are well-maintained so I would ask them if the vehicle got regular preventative maintenance including supercharger nose cone oil changes. And, I would ask them to show you service records. If they don't have service records, you'll have to decide if they are telling you the truth they took good care of it. I would think you'd probably want to get a feel for the owner and try to imagine if they would be the type with a heavy foot pushing the motor hard over and over again. I am of the opinion that a supercharged engine probably won't last as long as a non-supercharged one especially if the previous owner(s) drove it hard. As for price, I can't answer this question because there's too many variables and people are asking stupid money for these rigs right now. You'll just have to search for a while and get a feel for the prices people are asking and then you'll notice a good deal when it pops up.

Well, you chose the right word. It's a Want and not a Need. But, if you have the money and you'll enjoy the extra torque and horsepower, why not. I have to admit having a supercharger is pretty damn cool.

Great video, I've learned a lot from your video by the way just wanted to know if the fuel consumption change from better or to worst because 5VZ-FE 3.4L V6 engine is quite thirsty in fuel.

Glad you like the video. I don't remember Sean saying he took a hit on his MPG after this job. Obviously, if you put your foot into the gas pedal all the time to enjoy your new found horsepower and torque, your gas mileage will take a hit.

@shawns comment: 1:16:50. If you have an ETC button your transmission will not have gear shifting issues in hilly areas. Took my 03 Tacoma through the Ozarks and it did great.

When you activate the ECT button, it holds the gear to a higher rpm before upshifting. What the ECT won't do is give your engine 70 extra horsepower and 40 pounds of extra torque. You need a supercharger to do that.

It's running fine, but we did recently replace heads on it. Cylinder #3 had a crack and was letting coolant leak into the cylinder, causing a musfire.

@@ZIPTRAVELS fuel consumption usually does not get better with a blower on your engine.. however, I get approximately 220 miles per tank which is not far off from what it was getting without the supercharger… the other thing to consider is you have to run premium fuel. So that cost can add up. - Sean

No tuning required, but it helps tremendously with high RPM, low boost pinging. That’s currently what I’m experiencing so whenever I hear it I let off the gas or step on it to get it out of that power band. Tuning would typically require a secondary ECU. Toyota made a 7th injector to address pinging issues but it is EXTREMELY rare. URD is known for their 7th injector kit & people can keep the factory tune on the box or adjust it as they see fit. I plan to do the 7th injector from URD soon & apply a tuning map a buddy gave me. So far, after over 2 years, even without a tune, just slapping the supercharger on top of the engine has proved to be fine. But a lot is left on the table & there is a lot of power & fine tuning that can be done to get everything maximized & optimized for performance.

Awesome video. Y’all rock. I have a question that I’ve been trying to research the answer to but I’m uncertain. I have a 1st gen (gray) supercharger that s*** the bed. I bought a 2nd gen (black, like you have) to replace it. It’s not coming with any hardware, but I have all of the hardware from my previous s/c. Is it going to be an easy 1 for 1 swap, or am I going to need any new parts? Specifically I can’t find a straight answer about the capability of the bolts, tensioner pulley, and brackets. From everything I’ve read, I think I’m in business, but it’s hard to be sure until I have the blower in front of me. Thanks, everyone.

If you can't find your answer there, maybe ask this question in the thread and I'm sure there's going to be someone who could give you the answer you're looking for. There's a lot of knowledgeable guys who contribute to that thread so it's worth a shot.

Good catch: 8nm is not the same as 10 ft-lb of torque - its a 69% error, and looks like you avoided stripped threads. That's not fun when it's the block that's damaged. Oh, and please tell us you put in an auxiliary transmission cooler to go with this new found power [and the mountains the driver wants to climb]. It's a pretty good grade getting in and out of Tahoe.

It does require a tune. Especially with forced induction. More air is getting pushed into the engine without adding fuel. It's gonna run more lean which can blow up the motor. Really any performance mod to any engine you should tune it after. It's safer and drives better

We didn't have to do anything with the ECU. There are other things you can do to get better performance like installing the 7th injector kit, installing a higher capacity fuel pump and installing a tuner that is wired to the ECU.

love your videos. i will very shortly (next two months) be doing/installing a SC nose cone rebuild, swap in onto my truck, add 7th injector, TRD boost gauge, adding cruise control, and do my fuel injectors (replacing with stock injectors after research). I have every part at home waiting on just a couple extras that you suggested for nose cone rebuild (22mm extendo and the hydraulic press kit), they are en route. Side note, doing injectors bc i have an acceleration/power issue till about 4k rpm's it feels like it finally takes off. also replacing the fuel pressure regulator bc i believe it could be that as well. (I have already replaced plugs, fuel filter, and cut out my cats, added straight pipe, and added the urd o2 sensor delete.) If you two can think of any other reason id be having an acceleration issue id love to hear it! no codes thrown. just feels like extreme low power until about 4k rpm then she takes off (2nd gear) im hoping for it to be either fuel press regulator or the injectors being clogged, since i have already tried eliminating other possibilities (clogged cats / clogged fuel filter). if any suggestions please throw them my way i would really appreciate it!!! 01 4x4 v6 ext cab 5spd with 380k miles! second owner. Got the complete SC (minus 7th inject) and cruise parts all from a doner truck i purchased, 02 4x4 ext cab 5spd ! Can't wait!

Fuel mapping is important & the 7th injector allows you to tune the engine to maximize performance.. at 4K RPM’s you’re at WOT & that’s why you’re feeling the truck take off more. Hope everything goes smoothly for you in your repairs/upgrades. We are planning a 7th injector install. The walbro fuel pump that kit comes with can also help with performance.

@@TimmyTheToolman With the 7th kit, i have seen people doing no extra mapping and then others doing extra tuning. i am hoping to do nothing crazy extra for tuning. im also ading the 2.2 pully. i have read both; that keeping stock did fine and that upgrading also did fine. i just did a new fuel pump (stock). very easy to take drivers side of bolts off the bed, loosen the right side and jack up the drivers. if it gives me issues, i will put the 190 pump in.

Hey Tim just finished watching the video. Great job guys. Very informative videos as usual and fun to watch. Keep up the good work! I am contemplating installing a supercharger on my 03 Taco but trying to justify the cost. I might look into some other mods such as air intake, headers and exhaust, and maybe electric fan. That would bring me in about half of the price of a supercharger. I am also considering changing the axle gear ratio to get back to stock performance to start with. There is also 310000 kilometers on my truck so I am a little nervous to increase the boost.

It seems you can pick up a used supercharger for much less than Sean paid for his. Many guys on the T4R forum have stated some pretty good deals. I guess you just have to keep your eye out for the deals and scoop one up. I guess I would be a little nervous too increasing the boost on an engine with 310k but if it's been well-maintained, I think you might be ok.

That ground wire is for the fuel injector and the coolant hole on the T-Body can be bypassed.

Timmy The Toolman the ground wire that was hook up on left side of the manifold under the diagnostic plug. That for the fuel injector in case you didn't know that or anyone. If leave that ground out the Runner is not going to start up. Since you're in CA Like me and you know that ca doesn't snow you can connect the to ends of the coolant holes together so that you want have any coolant run onto the throttle body. This a bypass so during the summer time the engine won't be sucking all the hot air. This help out the motor a bit. I'm currently running this route on my T100 with the same 3.4L and I did this onto my project car. The only reason why manufacturer did this coolant on the TB so that during the snow/cold season the TB will not freezed up. The coolant is their to help heat up the TB so that the TB won't have this kind of issues.
