One of the best bits of this films promotion was Jo’s speech to her mother in the attic about women and love - and then when she adds on “but I’m so lonely” in the movie. Was spectacular. Nobody saw it coming

I loved the portrayal of Amy and Laurie’s relationship in this movie specifically, painted their relationship so well - how Laurie fell in love with Amy without knowing she ever loved him. He fell in love with her independence, her willingness to not only do what’s right, but what’s smartest and best for all parties involved. She has a way of being selfish with integrity and confidence. She’s elegant, kind, well mannered, funny, intelligent and never lowers her standards. She doesn’t settle and never allows herself too. I think Amy has all the qualities Laurie lacked! Jo wouldn’t make Laurie a better man, Amy did without even trying!

I think anyone who ships Jo and Laurie sees their surface-level connection. Of course they seem like soulmates because of their close bond, but they are basically siblings. They were so similar that their relationship flourished non-romantically so as Jo said, they would never had worked out as their similar personalities are better suited as friends

i agree 100% that’s why when laurie says to jo “i’ve always loved you but the way i love amy, it’s different” he means that he had a crush on jo and their friendship meant a lot to him and it couldn’t have gotten further than that because they were simply too alike, amy taught him how to be strong and mature, he could’ve never learned from jo because jo was still learning herself, how amy had to teach herself and she passed it on to laurie which is why they are MY SHIP.

I resonate so much with Florence’s portrayal as Amy. Growing up as the younger sibling, I used to always struggle to exceed out of my brother’s shadow. After watching this movie I realized that Amy did the same. That is why she was so torn about marrying Laurie: because to some people, she would only be getting him because of Jo’s rejection. However, after she discovered herself as a painter and matured in Europe you not only see her grow out of Jo’s shadow, but you see her shape a new shadow of her own. And she realizes that it’s of no importance what people think about her and Laurie’s love, he truly cares for her and she cares for him.
@anncheng38404 жыл бұрын
Ryan Stannard I don’t think Laurie truly loves Amy. He married Amy because he can be a family members of Jo and get to see her easily.
@ryanjstannard4 жыл бұрын
Ann Cheng He made it evident on several occasions throughout the movie that he wasn’t in love with Jo anymore. Why would he attempt to only get closer to Jo when he has no romantic attachment to her. Furthermore, Jo and Laurie are both chaotic and rebellious in nature. That is why, even Jo, doesn’t believe their relationship would work. It would just end in them fighting all the time. Amy is weight that keeps Laurie grounded in a positive way. She keeps him realistic and in return he keeps her on her toes.

I think it was all somehow in their destiny, Amy was to finally be with the Lawrence boy who brought her injured Eldest sister home and Laurie was to be with the girl who was crying outside his window in the snow.

@@strawbself regardless of whether or not you speak the language, spelling someone's name correctly (if you use the same alphabet, which French does) is a sign of respect and civility. I don't think the reply was that respectful, but the placement of the accent does matter, just as it would matter if someone mispronounced your name or switched two of the letters while spelling it.

I havent rewatched the 90s version in a while but I love the way in this one Jo's behavior towards Laurie is so playful and friendly and almost like every instance where he leans into her or wants to make something more intimate she punches or physically pushes him away laughing. It makes their dynamic and how they both want different things so clear throughout without any dialogue.

great gerwig's adaptation really helped me to appreciate laurie and amy's relationship. I feel like earlier adaptations have made the mistake of making it seem as if laurie settled by choosing to be with amy after being rejected by jo, and i carried that opinion for a long time. but in this movie you can really see the ways that amy and laurie compliment each other. love doesn't always have to be an intense soul connection like what laurie and jo had. sometimes love is looking up at someone and realizing for the first time how truly comfortable you are with them and how much they compliment you. laurie and amy's relationship captures that dynamic perfectly.

I think the people who shipped Jo and Laurie often romanticize the idea of twin flames--two people with an immediate connection that feel such intense passion for one another. But that passion translates in a negative way as well. Timothee is correct in saying they may have connected intensely, but it would have never been good for them, and the relationship Amy and Laurie have is much healthier and lifelong. I think that in our youth, many crave a passionate love. Because that's how we interpret love at this stage in life. But I think a true love is one that's reliable, that builds each other into better people, that learns and grows. Jo and Laurie would have never had that.

I feel like Jo and Laurie are similar, wild natured people. Where as Amy is basically everything that Jo ( and Laurie) lack... which is why it is so important that she clashes with Jo, and that she ends up with Laurie...despite also loving Laurie with Jo, I feel like it was better that he ended up with Amy because she provides the qualities that he lacks and basically anchors him, where as Laurie and Jo, like stated in the movie, would always fight and not grow from each other... Amy also needed someone like Laurie because, without Jo, I think Amy is a more serious person, and that’s shown a lot when she lived in Paris, away from her family. So with Laurie sharing the same wild and energetic nature as Jo, he provides those qualities in his relationship with Amy much like Jo does...

I mean, they really love each other (and they have romantic feelings for each other), and they complement each other in their weak areas, they express with honesty their opinions about the things that they're right and wrong, jo and laurie could have never done that, it's quite clear when jo says she wouldn't change a thing about him. plus, there's the fact that jo never loved him that way, and laurie's feelings for jo (in a romantic way) werent that deep. Also i thought florence and tim had amazing chemistry :)

peace at 720 ---- sometimes i wish i could lower your beauty from ten-eighty to seven-twenty like it were a resolution so I could watch you calm and steady without chaos or confusion sometimes i wish your flaws were those of a normal human like rose-tinted glasses off like a gray morning-after like a wake-up call but they’re making it worse taking me to a new level of adoration strange and vicious heart-sickening unrelenting you’d give me no peace at seven-twenty like snow in the sun like a sandstorm in the desert like a letter saying ‘never’ you’re wreaking havoc on my eyes

Karena Ardaji Amy and Laurie make each other very happy in the books, and they suit each other so well. Jo finds someone perfect for her as well, but that’s only because the author felt forced to give her a love interest by her fans

Love is what people are ment for, but with respect each other, that's still a social need and that's why " Little Women" are relevant nowadays....
