When a Chinese diplomat's daughter is kidnapped in Los Angeles, he calls in Hong Kong Detective Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) to assist the FBI with the case. But the FBI doesn't want anything to do with Lee, and they dump him off on the LAPD, who assign wisecracking Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) to watch over him. Although Lee and Carter can't stand each other, they choose to work together to solve the case on their own when they figure out they've been ditched by both the FBI and police.

Fun fact: both Chris tucker and Jackie Chan were offered to play in lethal weapon 4, which came out in 1998 the same year as this film. They both turned it down for this role. Chris tucker was supposed to play Chris rock’s role( detective butter) Jackie Chan was supposed to play the villain( jet pi’s role). In a fantasy world maybe they could’ve did both.

11:05 "Took him to Chinatown". Nope, not Chinatown. That is the TCL Chinese Theater (formerly known as Grauman's Chinese Theater) in the heart of Hollywood. It is located on Hollywood Blvd and is known for having footprints of actors set in cement on the grounds of the theater. It is also a major tourist attraction. The Chinese Theater and Chinatown are located about 8 miles apart from each other. It isn't until they go to the Foo Chow Restaurant that they are actually in Chinatown. The Foo Chow Restaurant is an actual restaurant, located on Hill St. in Chinatown, near downtown Los Angeles. The outside restaurant wall facing Hill St now is painted with the message "A Best Seller Movie by Jackie Chan Rush Hour was shot here" in Chinese and English.

This movie is such a guilty pleasure of mine. It's such a fun ride from start to finish. I hope that, in the small chance they make a 4th movie, they have the main antagonist being the man who killed Carters dad who's now become a major crimelord or some kind, like an illegal arms trader or something,cause we need one movie where the bad guy has a connection to Carter rather than Lee.

3 parts of this movie that really make me crack up laughing are: 1. When Carter starts dancing like Michael Jackson in the middle of the street after blowing the car up 2. When Lee and Carter are bonding and practicing disarming techniques while Edwin Starr's song "War" plays in the background 3. When Carter says "I know that ain't the bomb. Get that bomb away from me." Towards the end And trust me, the blooper reels for the remaining two movies are just as funny when it comes to the slip-ups with the dialogue.

Classic Jackie Chan film! One of the greats in his career alongside Chris Tucker! For the climactic ending to be filmed at the Los Angeles Convention Center, it’s a wonderful feeling since I’ve gone to that very building every summer for convention events!

The end scene at the convention center was done without CGI. In a program about Hong Kong stuntman it was mentioned that the producer, Brett Ratner, often had heart palpitating moments concerning Jackie's penchant for just doing crazy shit without clearing it first. In Rush Hour, Brett looked up to see Jackie jumping around in the rafters 150 feet in the air while working out fight choreography at the convention center. He yelled at him to get down and that this is AMERICA and you can't do that here. Another time, in RUSH Hour 2, they needed a shot looking down from over the top of a skyscraper and had hired a 5 piece crane for 6 hours to extend the camera over the edge to take the shot. Jackie became impatient, called over 4 or 5 of his stunt guys, tied a rope around his waist, grabbed a camera, and had them lower him perpenficular over the edge of the building and took the shot. Ratner nearly had a coronary and all Jackie had to say was "There...I saved you $80,000...you are welcome." The fall onto the banner was done twice WITH the required safety equipment because Brett said that in the first take he fell perfectly....like Jackie Chan...and Lee would have been scared shitless so he had to flail his arms and legs in the second one.

Fun fact...the car chase through the shanty town in bad boys was a copy from Jackies" Police Story" as well as the bus stand off from Tango and Cash. They were both nearly identical to Jackie's scenes in Police Story.
