Session musicians are the best musicians you never heard of. Day one in the studio theyre playing country. Day 2 rock. Day 3 heavy metal. Day 4 jazz. Day 5 pop. Amazing musicians and most often better than musicians in a band.

I first knew of Kevin Gilbert while at Yamaha music. His band Giraffe had just won the world honors at the annual Yamaha contest in Japan. Then came Toy Matinee and my god what great song writing and production. I met Kevin at his manager’s home right before the record came out, what a great guy, it was a meeting I’ll never forget. Knowing you were in the band makes everything complete. An absurd amount of talent was in that band. It is still in regular rotation at home and in the car.

Slash is a pretty cool dude,he gave Joe Perry his 59 Les Paul back, that Joe sold during the 80´s when he was pretty much broke from all the drug abuse and ended up getting sold to Slash, many years later. He also admitted openly, that he took lessons from Myles Kennedy, who tought him some chromatic Jazz/Fusion techniques and theory.

People often talk about who is the best guitarist but often we don’t really know where songs are born and who helps to give them life. That’s why I say there is no such thing as the best guitarist, there are just those who are among the best at what they do. It seems to me that the stories behind the songs are as interesting as the songs. Thanks again.
