Welcome to my build of the model kit of the year!
Yes, I've said it.
This is an extraordinary model and relatively easy to build. If you have an interest in British or Second World War aviation then this is a must. It does have a couple of faults, tight fitting parts, notably the undercarriage but that aside, its a banger!

When you put a beautifully engineered kit into the hands of a skilled modeller you get 28:07 minutes of sheer enjoyment.....amazing job, Tim. It must have been such a pleasure building, painting and weathering this kit....the results say it all. Let's hope Kotare continue to build on their work and keep those kits coming (so that you continue building them 😁!)

Thanks for sharing. I cant recomend the AK masking putty enough for doing this kind of spray work. Also, cutting out the shapes of the mask from paper then using the masking putty to hold that onto the model gets you a beautifully precise but only slightly soft edge camo.
@TimsScaleModelling
@TimsScaleModelling 4 ай бұрын
I haven’t used that masking putty, if I need a soft edge to the camo, I’d use “white tac” rolled into thin sausages and fill in with tape. I should get that putty though.
@MF-og1ct
@MF-og1ct 4 ай бұрын
@@TimsScaleModelling White tac probably works the same as the masking putty I think. Only ever used the masking putty because a lot comes in the can. I just prefer the softer edge I think. Very good looking build, I cant wait to start mine. I have some of those clay washes, I just never used them because I like oil paints that much. I should use them more though.

1/32 is the only scale for me. It like once you build a 1/200 battleship you can't go back to 1/350. Is there an option to build and show the engine? That's the big plus of the tamiya kit. Looks great!

Thanks for that Tim. Returning modeller who was never going to build a Spitfire (exe AAC🙂)....I have 3 of the things to build but all 1:48.😂 This one though, well I read a review and missed out but they were kind enough to put their instructions online. There is a mine of info right there. Interesting that you black based it, we never black based the full size and they got dirty and worn from the outside in but it's a technique that in the right place looks the part so nice one. Early days with me black basing but oddly enough it worked brilliantly on an all black aircraft. A Beauty

Fantastic Done.. You have to build at least one of those Spits 😁 which kits have you got? The Kotare Spit will be released as a MkII or Va soon enough but if you see one get it, you won’t regret it. It’s brilliant to know that my stuff has been of some use to you. If you’re on Facebook, come and find us on British Aviation In Scale or my own page Tim’s Scale Modelling 😁

A pair of Tamya 1a's and an Eduard Vb. One 1a will be in a scheme from Middle Wallop, one 303 Sqn when I can get some markings. The Vb....Polish again. Sadly Army aviation models are rare, crap, or both😬. 1:35 fills a lot of space but there will probably be room for one later. Thinking about the black basing, it probably got crushed as I tried on parts rather than a full kit. As I say only got back into it during lockdown. Amazed at what is possible now, particularly the range of paints....and manufacturers ready to relieve you of your pennies for re treads of old techniques but hey. All I want for Xmas is a 1:48 Westlend Scout.... Be lucky chap.

@@Flingwing24 Tamiya Spits are great, are they the old ones? Eddys spits are good too, if a little fussy. Their decals are atrocious by the way.. watch out. Top man
@Flingwing24
@Flingwing24 7 ай бұрын
Not sure whether they are old or new T, the better ones...that build themselves....Although their old Skyraider fits that. Yea I am aware of the eduard decals which is going to need some Mule work with some spare decals. It seems to me that they are doable (from what I have seen) but you need to go onto a flat or satin base and they need to really bond or the paint layer will come away with the carrier....or not carrier😳. There are companies that produce something similar that look fantastic for stencils (HGW?) with no carrier. Will Patterson uses Mr Mark setter which makes sense as it should create a stronger bond between the surface and the paint than the paint and film. Leaving them to settle down well with microsolosetodefcjn5hydroflouricacidobondanyshit to aid conformation seems to help... honestly don't know Tim but the slightly grippy surface and extra adhesive sounds positive. I will let you know how badly I screw up🫣🤣

@@Flingwing24 I can’t get them to work, stencils seem fine tho.. If they’re the “two sprue wonders” then they’re the older ones.. bloody lovely kits. I like Will but they’re only plastic kits 😂

Hey Tim, I am pretty new to building these scale models. What is the point of the clay wash? You applied a bunch of it then wiped it all off with what looked like a microfiber towel? Also when you were painting on the camouflage you did a bunch of little squiggles in each panel and then covered everything up afterwards. I assume you had a reason for that? Sorry if these are pretty basic questions. Just trying to write up a little "cheat sheet" for myself by watching a bunch of build videos.
@TimsScaleModelling
@TimsScaleModelling 6 ай бұрын
Hi Jesse. All questions are good questions don’t worry about asking for help. Clay wash is a quick and easy way of bringing any detail on a part, wings, fuselage etc. just slap in on wait for it to dry and remove with a damp cloth/paper towel.. easy. The little squiggles is a technique some call “black basing”. So, on top of a black primer or undercoat just spray any random shape or lines then overcoat in the your top coat. Again, it’s a way of introducing some interest or pre-weathering to your finished paint. It’s a bit long winded but ok if you have patience. I hope this helps….

Incredible build, no problem there, most skilled builder on YT - however the kits was rushed to market, over priced, with a lot of scaling problems, too many to review, I'll stay with 1/48 th for a while. So far haven't seen the value of building 1/32
