I love mixed metaphors and once sent one of my customers a greetings card in which I wrote: May your feet never slip on the fingerboard of life. Seeing the inlays on this guitar reminded me of that.

I love it. I have also used wood from trees lost to the emerald ash borer on my property to build guitars. So many local trees in Wisconsin have to be removed due to storm damage, insects, interference with electrical power lines etc. Oak, maple, box elder, ash, honey locust, black walnut, willow, hickory, and many other species. All perfectly fine for instruments both electric and acoustic. Keep up the fight, Tim.

I started a bass build from goat willow I found chopping firewood.. Never would have considered it without your videos, so thanks I guess. Will be interesting to see how it sounds.

Nice! A number of San Antonio luthiers have been making instruments from a local pecan tree that came down. The instruments turned out great!

My favorite wood. I made a small body acoustic 12 string (got stolen )back in the day that sounded like a Rickenbacker through a Vox amp.

Guitar sounds great. Everyone should be using sustainable woods for all guitars. I really appreciate you making that point. I want to get into guitar building and repair but I don't feel great about the industry constantly trying to sell me endangered woods.

Here's a question for you. Have you ever made a bowed stringed instrument? I play a size 16 viola and I have a cherry tree in my yard that is dead and waiting to come down. I'd LOVE to hear what a cherry wood viola sounds like or what it's like to play on.

Great to see local timber being used, until very recently I had a local timber supplier who only sold wood from the surrounding area that was felled due to disease of safety concerns but sadly they’ve had to close as the demand for local sustainable timber isn’t there. PS, having a 4” dust port on a bench top thickness planner is proper flexing, as the kids say

I adore everything about that acoustic!! I especially LOVE the bolt on neck. I've always been a huge fan of bolt on necks, they allow so much more adjustment than through bodies and the rest.. I'm a Jackson player. Bolt-ons sacrifice nothing, no sustain is lost, no tone, none of that crap they come up with. Silly propaganda.. A bolt on acoustic is so pretty to me, especially the way you've done it! I would only personally change 2 things.. Get rid of the little footsies, lol. Give me something more symmetrical, more standard-ish. And a sitka spruce top. That's it, just two tiny changes. I know you wouldn't be fond of the sitka spruce top, but you just can't deny that sound..

7:29 You're using that chisel upside down ;) Beveled edge ALWAYS goes down against the work so you are less likely to cut too deeply, or to create a deep gouge you can't back out of. The way you have it, when you cut too deep the only way to go is deeper (worse).

You ever thought about bending carved backs for your acoustics? I think you could jerry-rig something with vaccuum storage bags and a vaccuum cleaner. You will have to open the bag so the moisture can escape IG but once it's formed with vacuum you could just clamp on a reversed shaped mold on top of it before you open the bag? Idk just spit balling DIY ideas 😊

I also have an idea for hydraulic clamps. Once there's water in the system, you don't need much to apply pressure. Just like a syringe at the other end. Could be a way to get several clamps to clamp down with equal force at the same time... for some purpose idk 😂

That's a happy accident, it looks delicious 😋 and I learned a handy technique to open my clamps 😊

Wow Tim, the sound from that is *exactly* what I expected from a full maple guitar - wondering if you put the piezo under the bridge? How does it sound with a balanced mix pickup sound? I bet it sounds amazing! Brilliant stuff! I like bright guitars, it gives a different frequency in a song.

I noticed that you're using a yogurt cup to connect your vacuum system to your plainer. lol Also, that center point finder tool of yours is cool. The way I've went about it was to measure to the approximate middle and then measure the same amount from the other side and eyeball a line between the other two lines.

Anyway, I've heard you call yourself a, woodworker and a guitar maker but watching this vid what I saw was a fully fledged luthier. And a progressive one at that! Tradition can often be just a fallacy, but that's a discussion for another day! Beautiful piece of work.
