Tamils are not only Hindus but also Christians…Majority of Sri Lankan christians are Sinhalese so I guess most christians in Sri Lanka can speak sinhala fluently because of this blend between two ethnicities..And we Muslims speak Tamil as well..Tc Have fun ✨

Actually the plate thing isnt because sri lankans are out of cups or mugs, its to cool down the tea quickly, more exposed flat surface of tea means more room and space to heat dissipation. Lot of asian countries do this, but we prefer not to do it in restaurant or high standard places, glad to see ur enjoying, love ur football national team also players like hazard, witsel, courtois, lukaku, KDB etc.

It may be a Tamil village , but they were speaking to each other in a mixture of both Tamil & Sinhala. I think this maybe quite unique to Negombo where both ethnicities are well mixed. There are many in Negombo with "Sinhalese" names & who identify as Sinhalese, yet speak Tamil at home.

I've always felt that Negombo is a bigger mixture of races & religions than Colombo. Although Colombo has the larger population, Negombo has less segregation and more mixing between communities.

Negombo Tamils are bilinguals unlike Northern Tamils, Negombo Tamils migrated from Coramandel Coast of India during 14th Century, they speak a unique blend of Indian Tamil mixed with Sinhalese! Many of them are Fishermen and Follow Catholic religion and some are also follow Hinduism. Few hundred years back they spread across as far as Matara. Many of them got converted into Buddhism and become Sinhalese! They are known as Sinhala Karavas now! Only few villages like Udappu they’re still Hindus and speak fluent Tamil. From Mannar till Matara these people share a common origin and culture. They do not have any genetic affinities with Northern Tamils or Eastern Tamils, their closest ethnic group is Hill Country Tamils. It’s so fascinating how Sri Lanka is a melting pot of various ethnicities! Surprisingly Negombo Tamils still possess the knowledge of Tamil even after 600 years of migration from Mainland India.

As you mention how northern and eastern province Tamilians are different from Negombo and Puttalam Tamils? Is it that most religious activities are conducted by valaiyar priests not by iyer/ iyengars(Tamil brahamins)? And there is no Catholicism in India or Sri Lanka in 14th century. It came here in 16th century. And as you saying even people who live in southern coast descendent from Negombo Tamils and Northern Tamils are unrelated with Negombo Tamils. And compare Indian Tamils who came here about 100 years ago with Negombo Tamils. How funny is that. Aren't your ancestors are from Tamilnadu?

Sri Lankan Tamils came from Tamil Nadu India. it is the most authentic Indian state as it is least invaded/ruled By foreigners. if you visit there it will be culturally enriching. you will see lots of great architecture of unbelievable beauty thousands of years old made by carving granite stone some of them being through invasion natural calamities and still standing.
