While it is possible to add electrical accessories to your CANBUS controlled motorcycle by creating a separate, parallel electrical system, it's a lot easier to do it with a device like the HEX ezCAN. There are also other benefits of this integration. In this video I'll do a complete install on a BMW R1200RT and discuss the details of why and how you might want to go this route.

I've got a 2011 RT and have enjoyed your videos which have been a great help maintaining my bike without going to the dealer. I bought the Hex ezCan a couple years ago and added Denali SoundBomb Split Dual-Tone horn, D2 LED lights mounted by the mirrors, D4 LED Light pods mounted on the engine guard bars and the B6 Dual brake light kit. All have worked flawlessly and added to my front and rear visibility. This winter I have plans for a major maintenance changing all the fluids, lubing the driveshaft splines, air/oil filter, plugs, and replacing and flushing the brakes. Your videos will assist me in those tasks and guide me through syncing the throttle bodies, adjusting the valves, and several other projects. Thanks for your contributions!

John, enjoy your channel and great straight forward instruction. I have a 2011 RT and have installed the Hex EZCan. I use it to control multiple accessories (Driving lights, front medallion marker/signal lights, rear brake and top box lighting, and QuadLock charging accessory. It is a great device and very much makes everything just plug and play. Great project, great channel. Keep up the the great work.

Wow! How do you get it so clean and shiny under the seat?! On a more serious note, thank you for the video. I recently collided with a truck who pulled away from the kerb AND made an immediate left turn! I pulling the trigger on lights as I don't want a repeat!

Thanks John. I own a 2013 R1200RT and your videos have been a great help. Unfortunately, many of the products you refer to aren't readily available in Australia at least not for the price you can buy them for. Your videos are always educational though and I look forward to the next instalment.

You're not the only one from Australia to mention that problem. Of course, supply chain issues are prevalent everywhere now due to the pandemic--I have trouble getting lots of stuff in the states too.

Wow, great video. I'm trying to get a top case for my 2023 R1250RS. A Givi V47 looks like the ticket, but finding a method that's secure to attach a monokey attachment plate to the ... grab rails ? Givi has a "Universal" E251 plate, but I really don't know if I can just attach it to the curved grab rails. I purchased the MC new with the BMW side panniers, but it did not come with any sort of "original" rack. I'm trying to get this done on a budget, but I must have forgot this was a BMW. There's no way I will put brake lights on this project, at least not right now. Givi's hardware to attach a mounting plate doesn't appear that it will work if you have the factory side panniers installed. Just another brick in the wall for now. thanks for the video, you've done some nice work... 🙂

Well, the Givi V47 is an excellent box, and I've been using mine for many years. (See this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJ93ZMuIqrKvqZ8.html) I believe the mounting plate you need for your bike is not the universal one but the Givi SRA5113 plate. You can double check me on that. And once you get the box mounted, you can add brake lights like this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/is-anMaK28u-aGQ.html

@@tinderboxarts Thank you for your quick response 🙂 (pretty sure the Givi SRA5113 isn't the correct plate, at least not from the install diagrams and me pulling the rear seat off and giving it a view.) Regardless, I do so appreciate your help, and really enjoy your videos, very professional. SW Motech has what's called a "Street Rack". It isn't super cheap, but within my budget. From their install diagram, is shows two different sized sets of spacers, one for the BMW side panniers "installed" and one set for "not installed". It doesn't include the Gvi adapter plate (Adapter plate for STREET-RACK For Givi/Kappa with Monokey. Black), but again, that's within my growing budget. I'll talk to Givi Monday I think, and I am also going to speak to my BMW dealership Tuesday. Maybe the BMW "mounting plate/original rack is what is required to make the Givi SRA5113 plate work? Shad mentions that they have 2 different adapter plates for my MC, one that has a BMW original mounting plate and one for the MC that doesn't have the original BMW mounting plate... ? Thank you for your assistance. Appreciate the help.

I just reread your original post and saw you have an RS, not an RT! I missed that at first, so that is a different animal. Give Givi a call, probably they have some solution.

That should be coming in the near future! I have all the pieces, I just need to find time to do the work. I'll make sure to include dimensions and other specs so you can do the same mod on your bike.

Isn’t it possible to activate the fan automatically depending on the oil temperature?
@tinderboxarts
@tinderboxarts 3 ай бұрын
You would have to engineer a solution for that, like an oil temperature sensor connected to a relay. It would get complicated. It's really not that big of a deal to turn the fan on manually if you see the oil temp creeping up in stop-and-go traffic or whatever.

Hello, did you know how can i bypass the error indicator that appears on the RNINET when you change the OEM H4 50watt incandescent light bulb with an H4 LED? I need to buy the GS911 to disable this warning light indicator? Many thanks

You are missing some information. Like many other modern bikes, your BMW uses the CANBUS network protocol to control the electrical circuits rather than the old-school fuse boxes. The resistance values for each device on the factory circuit are pre-programmed so the system knows when there is a problem. When you changed your bulb to an LED version the resistance value changed and the system now believes there is a problem with the circuit or that bulb. If you install an LED bulb you need to source one with a resistor installed to match the factory incandescent bulb. See this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJqnbLuCvcnXfZ8.html

@@tinderboxarts thank you for your reply. I know about cambus. I’m just wondering the GS911 if can solve the issue but i think that each time the cambus will re check for the light resistor and will pop up the issue again. Im searching Amazon for a resistor compatible for BMW bikes in case you know any product please share it. Many thanks again for your great videos

Actually, I have several videos on the GS-911, too. It's a great tool, but nobody can change the pre-programmed values from the factory. They are what they are, so all you can do is source an LED bulb with a built in resistor. Kind of stupid, but here we are.
