Roy, I of course marched Spirit in 79, 80 and 81 and although I have relived that day more times than I would have liked, I did get this performance on Video tape and have watched it so many times... I can see you, Pops, Maggie and Bonnie on the side lines as the announcer called your names and gave you a plaque or some type of recognition. I can't help but notice how PoPs puts his strong arms around Bonnie and Maggie and appears to be literally holding them up as they listen to Jim's creation with the massive horn line. After seeing how emotional it was for all of you all, I want to say I really thank you all for being there and going through that night even though perhaps your heart and soul were still grieving... I can relate totally as that is how I felt when we performed that night in Memphis, TN on July 8, 1980.

I was a first-year Blue Devils percussionist in 1980. I didn't know who Jim Ott was, but I remember the morning that the news of his death reached our corps. Rehearsal came to halt as the instructors tried to come to grips with the loss of their friend. The massed brass ensemble performance was something special.

I also was a 1st year snare drummer with the Spirit of Atlanta. I'm sure we saw each other on tour. Perhaps in Montreal? Maybe one other show? And finals of course.

In Blue Stars we were on the southern tour to abalamba that year, and we did the same 200 horns thing. LOUD ! Carolina somewhere, and we had troopers and northstar with us on the field - can't remember who else.

I was at this show with San Jose Raiders. I so remember this night. I was also in Riverside when Wayne broke the news to the BD hornline.
