Most of the shops who build stuff like this won’t even talk about it, thanks for a good peek into your set up, it’s very interesting and the video was well done also. I had to turn down the techno music but no biggie, cranked it back up for the engine sounds. Born in 1961, I remember these cars being on the street back in the day and always thought they were particularly ugly but somehow you have made this one look “right”. Keep pounding the street and I’d be happy to watch (and learn) if you decide to post up more video in the future.

I feel embarrassed to say this but I'm 68 years old and this is my first time seeing the inside of a Hemi engine and it's inner workings, I started off as a mechanic at 18 years old professionally, built so many 440s, 413s, mostly wedges. Needless to say, I've been pausing and starting up again, making this video about an hour long. lol. Thank's for sharing this video, I'm immencely enjoying it.

Enjoyed the video, watching a Keith Black engine being assembled. After watching your torquing procedures and techniques I must critique a little bit. 1. One should never used a calibrated torque wrench to loosen only to tighten "Standard practice" 2. Torque wrenches with critical torques should always be calibrated 3. When using an adapter to torque the cylinder head nuts on the underside, the adapter can simply be placed at 90 degrees and there is no torque calculation required at all only when it is any other position After reading your comments to the one person that commented about the deburring of the block and the aluminum shavings not being cleaned up in the video, this person made a valid point and it shows the way this person thinks that this was missed. I would have cleaned them out as well, no matter how many metal particles are created during initial start up or break in. You obviously responded as a professional mechanic in your mind, but any metal particle can and will cause damage eventually. I come from the aviation world so our standards are very high.

This is how to assemble an engine, What's missing is the days of math, and engineering it takes to calculate what horsepower you want to run, at what RPM. The torque it will take to achieve that HP, Cylinder bore, crank throw, and head & intake cfm to achieve said torque. And THEN you have to tune it!!!

Interesting view of inside blower and intake port. People think you just buy the parts from the car magazine and do not even think of the engineering it takes to make it all work together, you can't buy a book for that, it comes from thousands of hours of hard work. +rayquan187 Most "production" Stock engines, work far far beyond this 1960's jumbled up mess that they have "concocted" together. They already DO, all the oiling from the factory. They have to add all these so called "tricks" because they are using tech that has not been updated in 25 years (at least) - just look at a modern Coyote Motor (world of wonder) and street HP at 2.1 HP / Cu in.

Marc Chartrand Don't talk out your arse. The have to do this because they need 1000 psi of valve spring pressure to control a valve that large on a cam that big and they are driving a 1klb spring on the street. There is nothing antique about this; not one part is OE Chrysler. I'm glad you got your name drop in for the Coyote which is a production passenger piece. If you can't recognize that isn't even in the same league nothing I can say can help. This makes 4.7hp/ci. You don't win drag races with efficiency you win it with power. Power/ci arguments are for Internet cowboys.

Oh yea, it's certainly possible to build that kind of power and drive it on the street. The cost is huge. It's bad enough when you run em at the track. We tow up to the line and back to the pit to keep the hours down. We don't make any more than maybe 1700 horse on our best day. So I am in no way knocking this guys deal. And the "streetable" term is subjective. CAN you do it? Yea, in some places you can't but where you can...you can...WHILE you can. When it comes to extremely high horsepower engines it's about hours, not miles. I've gotten 6 seasons out of one motor without ever dropping the pan. But, when it went..there wasn't much left to salvage. This is kind of like owning a Lambo or something really exotic, in my opinion. Can you do it? Of course! But, there are few that could afford to do it often. Great vid! Love that block, I wish I could afford one. I've been using iron 440 blocks for decades. I've got about 20 cores, more than I'll ever need.

So much energy wasted in negativity. I am 59 years old, I am building my third 6-71 BBC to be installed in my 12" lift 4x4 Suburban. All I can say is that actually driving a machine that you have dragged home, modified to your own personal taste and rebuilt completely is right up there on my list of the best things in life, better than sex. The only thing I think could top it would be to pilot a 50' dual gas turbine offshore race boat. But I haven't the funds or time remaining to pursue that. Just follow your passion.

In my opinion, a "street car" can have a race trans and a 5,000 rpm stall if you're willing to deal with that. But to be a real street car, it should run on pump gas.
@bbdl7042
@bbdl7042 7 жыл бұрын
Andrew Cuthbertson it can run on pump gas just throw a different tune on the efi and you can be only getting 1000hp running 93 octane without a problem
@AntiPattern328
@AntiPattern328 7 жыл бұрын
There is no way you could de-tune that monster enough to run pump gas. They are probably pushing 14 - 15:1 compression with those pistons. You would need to get it down around 10.5:1 to push pump gas through it. That would require a change of pistons and / or heads at least.
@ImInLoveWithBulla

This car has a Lenco 3 speed transmission, no TC and no stall speed. This is a purely mechanical barrel valve fuel injection system, there is no easy throwing a different fuel injection tuning on this engine. Gasoline whether pump or race gasoline is not really an option for anything other than low RPM cold startup/warm up and shutdown/storage purge pickling. It is my understanding they run 100% M5 methanol. It is not about the static compression ratio, the injection and boost is designed and setup to prevent detonation, cool the charge air and lubricate the blower lobes/seals. The video states 11.6:1 CR at 1:22

Not being smooth with the torque wrench will probably have a greater effect on the torque setting that any slight discrepancy in angle. As long as the deflected angle doesn't cause it to come in contact with something else, then a small angle offline makes little difference.

The time, work, and effort being put into this build is top level. I'm surprised the cigar smoker is okay with getting his ashes so close to the exposed interior of the engine. Apparently, cigar ashes don't corrupt motors.

why does the NHRA have rules about placement of the sparkplugs?
@promodracer2191
@promodracer2191 7 жыл бұрын
The rule is about engine set back. They limit it to 1" back from the front strut spindle from the farthest forward spark plug, AKA #1 cylinder. So on these heads They were custom manufactured with the plugs to the front of the chamber so the engine could be cheated back more. The wheelbase is also not the same on driver and pass side. This helps not red lighting on the tree. Think it through for a while.
@Tinman2Kustoms
@Tinman2Kustoms 7 жыл бұрын
if they don't regulate the engine placement then a lot of guys would move the engine more to the middle of the car to increase rear weight, in turn increasing traction, creating an unfair advantage.

The one thing I still wonder. Why would you still use pushrods when DOHC can support higher rpm and less wear?

It would blow that setup to smithereens.
@KyleBarrf
@KyleBarrf 7 жыл бұрын
CanadaBud23 What do you mean?
@CanadaBud23
@CanadaBud23 7 жыл бұрын
Those motors are mostly gear driven and the ones that are not use such ridiculously heavy chains just to stay together. Long belts/chains are not feasible in high torque/power applications and are very unreliable. All the small parts and hydraulics systems in DOHC motors wouldn't be able to take that load. Granted there are 2000HP setups but all are high revving and low torque numbers using unbelievably expensive lightweight parts. They don't stay together for long.
@KyleBarrf
@KyleBarrf 7 жыл бұрын
CanadaBud23 Oh, I see. I guess (especially with all the mods they did) if it is lubricated well then it's a better option to do push rod. :P
@DodgyBrothersEngineering
@DodgyBrothersEngineering 7 жыл бұрын
Kyle there are several reasons why you can't use a DOHC setup in an engine like this. Firstly have a look at the lift figures they are running, those cams must nearly have snow caps on them they are that high, that's not something you could easily get to work in an OHC. If that wasn't bad enough did you see the figures on the nose? Those are some serious spring pressures. With that much spring pressure conventional chains and gears just ain't going to cut it. Add on top of that it is blown making it even harder. It could probably be done but it wouldn't be as simple as adapting the setup off a Honda, it would take an engineering miracle.

Did I just see someone squirt oil in the hole where the ARP rod bolts go? You don't get an accurate torque reading like that. You are also suppose to de burr everything before you hot tank a block, otherwise there is material everywhere.

harry guy You think the rings and all the other things dont leave material behind when they break in? With good oil filters and oil changes it doesnt make a damn bit of difference. Plus aluminum is the softest material you will find in an engine. Hard to ruin anything with aluminum. lol

You're telling me you'd rebuild your engine every few months for 6 times more power than you can use? Drag engines on drag slicks on a drag strip is one thing. But on street tyres on a street covered in oil and smoo juice you can only get around 500hp to the ground. Why not make 500 reliable HP you can use all day every day? A hard tuned engine is a one run deal. Some of them get new pistons and springs every meeting, at a cost of over $2000.
