Tinman. You and Buckin’s videos are my highlights throughout the week. I’ve learned lots of saw information and mechanics from you and the Ironhorse. I to am usually a firewood cutter. I ported my first saw (farmertec 372xp) with parts from Wolfcreek. Looking forward to the 288xp build

Timing I have a 461 stock which I have only a few hours on. I really think it's like a 044 on steroids. Thanks for reviewing a Stihl product. There are a lot of us stihl guys out here.

Glad to see the ole Tinman running a stihl. I like husky, but I'm a stihl guy for sure. Got me another stihl 660 I'm building now, whenever I get the rest of my parts.

Like you, I like all brands. Even some of the "hardware store specials" never really been a stihl nut. But lately, I've really been getting into them! Not that I'll turn into a stihl fan boy, they've just piqued my interest! Thanks again for sharing👍

I have a stock one. They are very strong stock. its the only stock saw I have. Very smooth power band. I reach for it more often than my modded saws. Bought it brand new in 2015. Never had a single issue.

Definitely pat yourself on the back, Tinman. You restored and modified a blown up Stihl and now it's yours. Well done mate. 👍🇦🇺

Folks not familiar with tuning a limited ignition saw such as the 461 may find it beneficial to tune with a tachometer. The 046, ms460, and ms461 use a different outside spike than the 064, 066, ms660, the R-model spikes work very well and are my favorites for felling. Stock I find the 461 to have good torque and pulls a 25" bar fine but is lacking with a 28", the clutch stalls more easily, you will find the clutch drums last longer on a ported one vs stock with properly sharpened chain and longer bars (same on 044, 462, 500i etc). The regular 461 oiler barely oils a 25" bar adequitely in hardwoods so I would upgrade to a high output oiler if yours is not an R model, it significantly cuts down on bar wear and lubes the chain better in the cut. The air filtration on the 461 like most Stihls sucks, to the point I have had them consistantly start running poorly after felling 5 trees and shut off after felling 12 trees with the stock filter and not want to run until I change or blow out the air filter, a Maxflow solves this problem. 3/4 wrap ported R model 461 arctics running a 28" es light bar (balances very well) with Maxflow air filter, & factory dual port muffler are my choice of saw in the winter. With proper maintenance the 046 (no flippy caps 👍), ms460, ms461 saws will easily last the average user a lifetime. Great, reliable saws.

Good runner tinman! Long bars all the way where one can. 24 inch on the ol ported 026 full time, have pulled 28 full comp on it using a good chunk of it but obviously don't suggest it. 28 to 32 in the bar fleet in most cases over here too 👍 raffling a 32inch this Thursday coming up on live if you like to enter!
