Tinny Camping In The Whitsunday Islands Episode 2

We take our 3.8m tinny and spend 5 nights camping at Whitehaven Beach and other islands in the Whitsunday Island group. We experience conditions not suitable for a small tinny such as rough oceans, strong winds and rain but in the end have the adventure of a life time.

Relying on the sun to shine or the trip is a write off is a very instagram way of thinking . You should be enjoying the trip regardless of the weather .

Geez Chris you are lucky the forcasters got it right , that stretch you did can be horrible , I ve been nervous doing it in my 60 ft catamaran some trips , its a dangerous stretch of water , beautiful place though when the weather is good

Yeah like we said we really had no idea what we were in for 😄 Glad we did it but wouldn’t do it again under the same circumstances.

Epic video guys , what an adventure, cant wait for the next episode. Just curious towards the end of the video what type of light did you put in the water where u had the turtle swimming around? Keen to do something like that in my tinny for night fishing and getting squid etc. 🤙

Thanks mate! Next episode will hopefully be up next Saturday. Depends on how big Christmas is! Don't know the name of the light however we bought it from BCF I'm pretty sure. It a submersible squid light for exactly the purpose you mention. We were out looking for squid but didn't get any. Instead we had turtles turn up which was great!

That turtle footage is really concerning. The poor thing was confused as you had a light shining underwater at night. The marks on your lure were from the hooks rubbing. I’ve never been to Whitehaven but I’d assume there is a lot of green zone no fishing surrounding the area which means you can’t have rods setup. Awesome trip in such a small boat thankfully you got reasonably weather on your crossing.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The light was a squid light. Animals are often attracted to lights so I think it’s a bit harsh to say it’s disturbing a the turtle was confused. It just swam around the light as if it was attracted to it. It never rammed it or touched which suggests there was no aggression or discomfort. Thanks for the info on the lure. I know bigger all about fishing so wouldn’t know if it was a fish or the hook rubbing. You are correct in that there are plenty of green zones. Along the beach front of Whitehaven Bech it is a green zone and you cannot fish there. But further out you can. We had the map which shows the green zones and made sure we weren’t fishing in them. lol if sleeping in sodden sheets, and standing in pouring rain for 2 days all with a 3 yo is your idea of a good time then good for you mate.

@@OffgridTravelling , especially with the wife and young fella. You're very lucky they were able to handle it. Well done to yous all. What time of year was this? Winter is best up here, but can get very windy.
