Tiny Dungeon second edition is a rules-ultralight tabletop RPG by Alan Bahr of Gallant Knight games. It was released in February 2018 after a successful Kickstarter, and has since been supplemented with half a dozen alternate settings. It uses the “Tiny d6” system.

This is a perfect game for introducing new players to roleplaying games, who often find larger games too daunting from a rules perspective.

This is also a perfect game for veterans who want something that's less crunchy and faster flowing. It's good for kitbashing with other TinyD6 games & mechanics, too

I keep coming back to Tiny Dungeon and each time I do it seems even more special. In a hobby filled with rule systems that require time and effort to learn, I ask myself..."Why? Are all these rules really needed?" With the tools available in Tiny Dungeon, and a healthy helping of my imagination, all the fantasy adventures I can conceive of can be run with minimal fuss. In an era of online tabletop rpg play, a minimalist design philosophy requiring no combat grid is especially well suited to virtual play.

Fred Daniel I tend to be in your camp as well. There are certainly a lot of gamers who want a full dashboard of predefined options that are duly codified in print. But the side of casual flexibility is most appealing to me.

As a 5e veteran who's been yearning for a new system since I kind of hate how long combat can drag, and I've wanted to play a system that allows for more character customization, this sounds AMAZING. The magic works like bending in Avatar, it uses warhammer's success rules, and a bunch of premade settings? Gonna be buying this one for sure, especially since its only 20 BUCKS FOR A PDF COPY, HELLS YEAH.

I wanna try to solve combat by introducing short turn. 1 minute or 30 seconds to make a decision what you wanna do and the same amount of time to realize that. If you don't do anything, your character just holds their turn. This would speed combat up. Like, each turn takes 6 seconds. You gotta act fast. Simplifying the rules does work, but i think that dnd's rules aren't that complex. It's probably more about teaching your players how to act fast. Be aware of what their characters can do and make decisions in a tight time limit.

Great video! The irony is I grew up playing Rolemaster but now I love all things Tiny D6, I backed TD2e and Supers and just got Pirates and Wastelands. I have ported Tiny Dungeon 2e to both Fantasy Grounds Unity coreRPG and to Foundry VTT using sandbox mod. I am currently about 80% done with Wastelands into Foundry. I have videos of these on my channel for the curious.

I looked at your review and decided to buy Tiny Supers. I love it, its awesome, I have bought many minimlist RPGs, Black Hack, ICRPG, single d6 , Elemental and many others. This by far is the most minimalistic, and believe me the above list is all Minimilistic RPGs. I love it, but what I most love, is the way the author seperates the subject matter, One book for fantast, one book for Supers, etc... I own two, the Supers one and the fantasy one, and I have read through the fantasy rules very quickly, re-read it , and re-read it again, I thought I missed something, because even with the optional rules, its one of the easiest RPGs I have ever read, but what surprises me most, is it's elegance. I know this is just an opinion, and I know people think fate is minimalistic, but hands down, this is easier than fate, and it does the job equally well. This is one of the most elegant systems I have ever encountered, and your video review does a good job showing the base system. In a way I can make my players watch your video and they will get a great overview of the system before I teach it to someone else. Thanks for posting a review and I hope you review more RPGs. What I plan on doing now is setting up my own homebrew minimal systems, using Tiny D6 and Elemental as my base for two different takes on minimal systems. With tiny d6 I plan on implementing the ideas of ICRPG and the index card method using the Tiny D6 system as the base, while using some ideas from Black Hack like using dice to keep track of things like arrows, ammo, and supplies. Also, I will use the ICRPG rules for breakage of chests and doors in the tiny system, and I think I might even use some of the worlds in ICRPG in Tiny D6.

personally I prefer pbta dice system but this seems fun as well (I typically prefer pbta because it's easier to see how your bonuses affect your chance of success, +1 in pbta is an obvious buff as opposed to 3d6 vs 1d6, it's hard to know *how* much better this is other than knowing it "just is"), but I also do like this system's vibe overall

LoL. That is almost exactly how I have played my game for years, and still do. I'm generous though. I let my PCs throw three or four dice. I basically combined the rules of HeroQuest and Dragon Strike, that I played as a teen. I played 2E and a little 3.5E, but I always preferred my quick and easy version. I should have made my own book, along with my homebrew game setting. I've been building on my world for thirty years now. Damn, I could have made some money. LoL

There is an ever present lure for the perfect system that balances detail, simplicity, and freedom. Like many role-players, I've designed my own, but still, after playing dozens of systems including AD&D, 3e, GURPS, Palladium, and Traveler, Dungeon World so far has done the best job of hitting the sweet spot. The core system is simple, and played off of the play sheets, but the GM, and players, can add unlimited detail which may or may not come to pass based on die rolls. Based on this review, the simplicity, especially the 1 pt of damage rule, seems off. Am I missing something?

@@DaveThaumavore I can see that being useful. The last simple system I looked at was Maze Rats. I loved the descriptive character and town generators, but the combat lethality was insanely harsh.

How do you make an attribute test in a game with no attributes? Just roll 2d6 and add a die if you have some kind of advantage or subtract a die if you are at a disadvantage? This looks like it might be too late for even me.

There are no attributes, players essentially build a hero from an extensive list of Traits. Two Human fighter-types with different Traits would not play exactly the same way. You could make a guardian-inspired hero by selecting Shield Bearer, Defender, and Tough. You could alternatively make a Witcher-inspired hero by selecting Cleave, Spell-touched and Alchemist. Both examples are human fighters, but are mechanically and thematically different from each other.
