not much needs changing, Ive improved the seal to give better draw and placed a firebrick barrier at the end of the burn chamber to create turbulence and to stop ash migrating though the whole riser (If that is still the right word) I'll sandblast and paint it tomorrow and start on the oven and legs for it.

It's a funny old world isn't it.. Looking at the numbers it seems like about 1%, so 99% percent of people are grateful for such innovative and thoughtful content for free on youtube, and then there's a tiny minority of people you shouldn't worry about. Thanks for your thought, work and generosity boss.

Great idea👍 May I suggest to place a variable inlet air control (flue) on your fire door....Oh hang on?...And why not turn that door into a draw to empty the ash🤔...just put mesh at the back of the draw ... yeah yeah yeah...😮😃👍

Thanks for that, man. I have been wondering for some time now about the viability of building a rocket stove with all of the gas turbulence creating bends and corners being horizontal instead of mostly vertical that you normally see. You have proved to me that it's a good thing. I have the opportunity to purchase an old Metters No. 2 solid fuel stove, in pretty good condition and wanted to turn it into a rocket stove, using a similar horizontal setup to yours and also using fire bricks as you have. So, from the grandson of an old ANZAC on the other side of the ditch, thanks brother - I'm off to buy that stove!

This is so smart. I cannot weld so am going to make my base out off soil like those primitive rocket stove videos. Them am going to put a peice of metal on top. Then am going to buy 2 metal pipes on for the fire feeder and a long one for chimney. Thanks for the idea.

Ireally like how well thought out you are approaching this burner . My thought is finish testing and improvements until you are 100% satisfied then clean and paint with high temperature stove paint . I think when you aresatisfied with your design i would want to make one as it seems so well thought out . Never in my life have i watched the design process and problem solving so straight up very cool good luck

A rudimentary secondary burn rocket stove. secondary burn stoves are very efficient also burning the smoke leaving only gasses which also stops the build up of crap in your chimney. Aka no chimney fire because there's nothing to build up. This would be a very nice summer stove or outside stove so you don't have the fire up the big one in the cabin to cook a little food but thoroughly cooking yourself in the process. Very nice job. Just found these 2 vids and subbed to follow what you do with them.

Thank you for posting this. I really like the design. Stright forwatd and simple. Don't sweat the comments or dislikes, they speak more about those making them than your video. I've been toying with the idea of making a rocket to heat my RV and save propane. RV's use forced air heaters that suck down the propane and will drain the house battery powering the blower over night. Here in the US pellet fuel is like $5 dollars for a 40 pound bag. This design would be perfect. I could add a ducted feed for outside combustion air, so it doesn't use inside heated air and a viarable speed pellet feeding system and this design could be perfect for space heating. Very little heat appears to be going up the chiminy. Anyway, thanks again and best wishes from texas right now, mate.

Love your videos. Great tips. Don't worry about the thumbs down people. There is one in particular that is always showing up on my KZfaq channel, I refer to as "my personal troll." Most trolls offer no explanation for the thumbs down, which of course renders such an opinion useless. You can't fix something you don't know about. Of those that have piped up, one simply didn't like the selection of background music I had chosen, and another didn't like the color of something I had painted. Sheesh! That's how it goes, and we can't control it, so no worries! Don't take it personally (I just laugh at the trolls).

Looks great. What about making a supply chamber on diagonal that has a flange on end to slide into a grove on side of stove then it can be removed and stored in stove for transport. Chimeney could also have flange at bottom to slide in grove and all can be removed and stored in stove flat when not in use.

If you wanted to insulate the bottom of the cook stove, a layer of perlite poured in after the bricks are placed should do nicely. You can buy it in the garden section of a home improvement warehouse. It's used as a component of potting soil, as well as a high temperature insulator. You could make a concrete mix using perlite, portland cement, maybe a little sand, and fiberglass, or basalt fiber as reinforcement. Use it to mortar the bricks into place, and insulate the bottom, and sides of the cookstove at the same time. If you use just a little, or even no sand, the mix will add little weight to the stove. Whether or not you could use no sand at all would depend on the size of the perlite particles. If there is enough sand, or dust sized particles, you can use only perlite, and portland cement.

An interesting design, which looks like it could be adapted for in home use in the underdeveloped parts of the world. It looks mass producible and much more portable than other wood burners with similar cooking area. Set it on legs, bricks, concrete blocks or even a clay mound, and you bring it up to a cooking height that could limit fatigue in many poor women worldwide.

Sir you are a genius! this is bar far the best I've seen yet, i have been watching these VT's for weeks now. As you say, most are very limited to their usage and the word Stove I think is being over used, seeing that most are not "Stoves" as I see them and to a point neither is this, but could be with the addition of another level with Oven (old safe maybe), then to me it Would be a stove. (pun intended). Should've waited past 02:55 ...lol. I think a small steel box on that framework and it's there. I have seen some smart work with fans to increase the burn, what d'you think to those? I am a very impressed Pom! This design is the best yet. It may not be portable but for off grid livers - the business!

I always look at heat like its water but upside down. So if you look at it like that i would think you could dam (Hang half way down like a wall) after the completion of the U in the channel. That to me would increase the heat by slowing it down so main hot spot (1) closest to the source (2) at the U and (3)the out or return to chimney. Like i said if you dam it(hang it) after the U i think you could potentialy create hotter burn zones. lol i dunno. just a stab at it!

Sorry, I thought I put the word ‘maybe ‘ before ‘would’. I was thinking that if a “V” was cut into it - a narrow one- it may pull some more heat to the back as well as the end. Thought it would cause the oven to cook more uniform. It’s not fact, just speculation.😊

When you achieve proper burn, very little tar build up in chimney.
@MartyRothbard
@MartyRothbard 6 жыл бұрын
I'd put a 5", or 6", steel sheet metal duct around the 4" chimney, and suck the the combustion air down to preheat it. The 4" chimney would protrude from the preheater. At the bottom, I'd use a 5, or 6" tee with a 3", or 4" perpendicular leg. A metal dryer hose would carry hot air to the inlet. You might need to make a cover for the fuel hopper, I'd use square tubing larger, and longer, than the hopper that would telescope over it, and seal against the top plate of the stove. Don't forget a cool handle for it. I'd disconnect the dryer hose at the air inlet to light the stove, and reconnect once the fire got going, I would vary incoming air by rotating a slotted disk, that would be atop a similar slotted disk at the top of the preheater with a cool handle. Since I'd plan to seal the hopper, and with the extra piping, the air inlet would likely need to be larger, perhaps the diameter of the dryer hose. Since you could throttle at the top

I love what you do .thank you AUSOME👍💖 I had an idea to solve stove problem.SINCE heat rises Put the stove on top of your cook stove.were it can be lifted taken off when your done baking or not using it.put handles on best sides or were its easy to pick up even when hot.small metal table put it on so it can cool off. You would have to take the insulation out of bottom of oven you have And i don't know if it would fit over the top of your cook top stove or not. But if you can put the oven Were it sits right on your cook Top surface .the heat would heat your oven if you don't have insulation in bottom of the oven. Oven would probably need a little vent that you can adjust.Backof it. I think that would get 400 degrees or more easy .or bake a cake or cookies brownies.small vent to adjust temp if way to high. Tell me what you think. Does it sound like good idea.??? Its the simplest one i can come up with .👍👍👍let me know what you think.❤😄👍

No- Biochar is produced by a reduction of oxygen- this works the other way- lots of oxygen

Ok, I see the flat brick, I thought it was another fire brick that was shaved down, or that’s what I thought I saw threw the fire......as for keeping the bricks from sliding around, which I thought about earlier, what about wielding L-brackets on top and bottom and the part that’s against the bricks is, I don’t know, maybe an eighth-1/4 of an inch. Does this make sense, it would keep bricks n place, what do u think? Thank u

This...is...awesome! I love that it’s smokeless. Question, u said we couldn’t see it but there is a fire brick that makes the heat go over it, is this brick up against where the sticks are burning??? And what’s the spacing between top of brick and metal??? Thank u much

If you look in the static picture- Its the only flat brick that is in there. Ive been sliding it back and forth to contain the ash. I tried a ceramic tile as a bottom insulator but it cracks and breaks on the first firing. I need to find ways to secure these bricks so they dont move when I tip the stove.

whenever I do a boil test I use the same kettle and one litre of water (4cups) most of my gas bottle stoves take about 15 mins. So far Ive only tested this twice. Im getting a boil in 13 mins so far. If I make it hotter It will be too hot for other cooking I think. Im happy with 13 mins, my modern Rinnai gas stove takes 7 minutes. Hey Im just editing a new episode on choosing pots and pans for woodfire cooking. watch out for that

was the secondary burn capabilities by design or luck? from what i can see its the smoke in contact with the cook top mixed with the heated fresh air pulled in from the thumb hole that makes that secondary burn available.

Yes Its by design- the main idea of a Rocket Stove is to get the gasses super heated to create a massive draw which is also a great way to keep it clean. My inovation was to lay it all on its side to increase the cooking area. Im real happy with how its worked

Hey man. You need to put a fire box on the other side too. That way it will actually heat up and get hot. You're nowhere near the temperature of a rocket stove. Build one with the Firebox on the other side and make a video. I'm willing to bet will get that thing up to him at least 600 Degrees. You can't cook on a surface of 260 degrees in a short amount of time.
