Fraying edges of your binding?? Here is a quick tip to fix it fast so you can bind your quilt without worrying it will all fall apart in the wash! I use a serger but also give tips on how to get the same secure effect on any sewing machine that can stitch a zigzag stitch. This quilt binding technique is also great for a quilt that will be washed repeatedly as it helps really secure those inner edges.

Fraying fabric in your quilt binding is awful! Have you ever experienced it? It happens to me more than I'd like.

I was looking for tips as to whether I needed to "take care of" the edges of the fabric that will lie underneath a piece of binding tape I'm gonna be placing around an apron. And, this video answered my questions about that small dilemma. I've decided I DO need to place a zig - zag stitch around the edges of the reversible apron I'm making. TYSM for posting this video. 😻😻😻

My vintage flour & feed sack quilt is nearly finished and I'm ready to add a border and binding. As I was working with it yesterday I could see that it was fraying like crazy and I was afraid that the edge was a bit unstable. My serger is a bit moody and temperamental so I didn't give much thought to overlocking the edges of the quilt. But what I did instead was to use a 3-step zig-zag all the way around the quilt to secure it. It's always amusing to me when I find a video about something that I've just been dealing with!! Good idea with the serger, though.

Before I had my serger, I used the zig zag for this and it worked really well! I only use the serger now because it’s faster :)

Yes! I have had to serge the edges on a few quilts because of ridiculous fabric fraying. Also have replaced some friend’s binding on older quilts and had to the same. I have a longarm and love to see more tutorials from you working from yours. Do you use ballpoint needles on your Longarm? Kelly Cline Quilting changed my life with them. I quilt a lot and have only changed my needle like two times in 6 months. ❤️

My binding frays constantly.....drives me nuts! I am always trimming the frayed threads as I hand sew around. Will definitely try serving the edge next time. Have you ever actually serger the binding down rather than sewing first?

I haven’t every tried just applying the binding with the Serger. I’m sure there is a way but I’m not sure how to handle the corners. It’s kind of tricky to stop 1/4” away from the edge with the serger.
