Permanent Door Fix for our Shelter Logic Garage in a Box

After multiple failures on our Shelter Logic Garage-in-a-Box, we decided to take matters into our own hands and build a permanent barn door facing. This is step 1 of making this shed to last long term in the high desert where UV rays and high winds have shredded the covers. Step 2 will be covering the top with metal paneling. Hopefully one day soon!

Once the cats are done playing with the zippered door that was removed, staple it on the inside of the door to seal cracks and allowing air to infiltrate while water seeps down. If you are going to add corrugated roofing to the sides, consider adding a translucent UV stabilized panel on the roof crest allowing light to infiltrate into the storage shed. The cat door is genius. You’d better watch the child that suggested it; she is going to go far if allowed. Have you considered adding a couple shipping containers for a build similar to April & Red have on their homestead. (Red and April, Off-Grid Home Build.) Wishing you and your family a blessed new year. Greetings from NE Ohio. Peace

When the canvas goes, bend steel sheeting over the top and opaque poly carbonate along the bottom for light, just a thought.🤗

I love how you made this. Truly a great solution for your problems. Not that its remotely the same, but we put a kitty door on my son's garage inside door entrance to the main house. We put our kitty litter boxes out there to save space and keep any smell and any litter mess out of the house. We tried several indoor spots before this and the garage was the best solution. Ours has a lockable flap so we can keep them inside the house if we need the garage opened for extensive time. They now use the garage as their 'kitty apartment' and safe place to be alone if my granddaughter bugs them too much. They are not fans of being stuffed in her doll house.

Awesome! I think we need to put some kind of flap on it for sure. They seem to like it though!

I'm impressed. We have a metal and canvas pergola that is giving us trouble with the zippers. This is giving me ideas on how we might retrofit it.

i will be doing this on my 4 portable garages from HF where i built art projects & sculptures ... one is already covered on the *sunlit side* in the sheet metal from a defunct 8x8 shed, one with heavy vinyl donated from awning company when replacing old ... the ends are gonna require solid work, ive replaced numerous times since 2009. Yours is pretty, mine will not be, but doors will open OUT cause i need the interior space when doors are open. Your frameup has saved me time and headscratching ... woopee!

You could cut down the old front and tack it to the inside doors to keep rain out.

It looks cold you guys. The kittens want to help, NOT. I like this idea of beefing up the bones of the garage shelter logic kit. Nice job! That door frame looks really nice. Wow, I've never seen a door built standing up. It looks fantastic. I love the cat door! I like the rocks at the bottom too. It really does look wonderful. Take a bow guys! It is important to have a dry area to store stuff.

For the inside areas, might I suggest a light frame of left over wood strips, staple the ends together and then put 2 ply of vapor barrier plastic panels. These can be as solid as you want them to be. Affix the top of the panel on the bottom of each door. Being your doors open to the outside, use a piece of OSB board (they're pretty much waterproof - at least for a couple of years), do the burn thing (will add some amazing detail) and place it over the front panel of one of the doors. When you open them, the protector panel goes with the door. When closed, it "seals" the center gap. Or, you can go with the rubber stuff you use to line a bottom drawer shelf - they sell it at the dollar stores, thick-"ish"rubbery liner. Glue it to a piece of stiff cardboard and voilà, easy, cheap baffle. Of course, you'd put that on one of the insides of the doors. You could repeat that at the bottom too. For the adhesive, try the spray on Super 77 or E6000, then staple in place for extra security.

have you considered earth berming it cover it with metal or other water proof strong sides . Then simply make a mound of earth over the entire structure . wind will simply go over and around it . the sun wont heat it up so cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Hi. I have a similar structure from harbor freight and the main tarp was starting to degrade from uv also. I ordered another heavy duty tarp on eBay for about $100 to go over the original cover. The new cover protects the original cover from uv. The new cover is longer than the frame by about a foot. I made several extra holes in the edge of the tarp with a hot nail. Then use a 3/16 cord strung through the holes to secure the new tarp. Good luck

You guys have never done anything like that before? That is a testament to your know how and ingenuity. The fact that its gorgeous to boot is just the cake topper. Knocked it out of the park with this. I cant wait to see what you do to cover the "roof" I've seen some beautiful roofing metal some that even look like clay tile didn't even know those existed until the nomadic movement put them on their build. I'm guessing you'll just cut the tarp off at that point?
