Just a quick tip to make your own edge clamps. This is similar to the "Rockler Bandy Clamp" but at a fraction of the cost. For the price of two bandy clamps you can make 8 of these.

I have a hd bucket full of those grey spring clamps and I'm about you turn half of them into band clamps. You just saved me hundreds. Tip for anyone doing this go to a bike shop that makes and repairs bikes. You can get all the used inner tubes you need for free. They don't need to hold air just be stretchy.

It's almost enough for banding on a small kitchen. I have a huge kitchen later this year, and will ikely make another 100. I like 3/8" solid banding, so 4" or so spacing between clamps seems to work. Roughly 25 per 8' sheet. 120 is barely enough. So these have saved me some cash, and I am no longer clamping or pinning them.

Do you find that these $1 HD clips dent the wood you are clamping them to? I am using birch plywood which has like a hair thin veneer, so would be hard to sand out. If they are too strong maybe a sacrificial shim underneath is the way to go. Anyway, thanks for the tip!

That weird powdery stuff is either talc or corn starch. That's what they use to lubricate rubber so it doesn't dry out.

Instead of putting the inner tube over the original tips, I wonder if you could put the original tips over the inner tube so it would hold the band back a bit more and also the original probably has some better grip to it.

Michael Olson that how I made mine and they work great and it's a good thing I found this video I was just about to make a video on how to make them I also used crazy glue to secure the rubber to the clamp and then put the little caps back on I found without glue the the rubber starts to slowly pull itself out

I had to replace the rubber on mine because the tube was extremely old and the clamps had a fair amount of direct sun light. No problems since using newer inner tubes
@iteese

Pro Tip: Better for the planet and your pocket; ask you bike shop for old tubes that they've thrown out. Don't pay $5+ for a new tube that you're just going to cut up. Use a tube that is destined for waste instead.
