Great advice. One thing I’ve loved about your channel from the beginning is your to steer people away from the gear junkies and meatheads looking down on everyone else. I feel 100% the same way. Keep it up!

I couldn't agree more, overnight, weekend, even day trips. get out there and setup. have lunch! You can experience this life style without spending $$$. You are totally right about wasting money on things that you think you need. A chair, cooler, Sleeping bag. "in your car" will work fine. You may find that you love the life style or not? Thank you for sharing.

assuming you already have a reliable & capable vehicle... the budget only needs to accommodate your particular target use. for example, if you're only going out in the Spring & Summer, you dont need loads of cold weather gear. if you're only going on overnighters or a couple days, you probably dont need a truck fridge, or jerry cans. basic camping gear, food / drink storage & cooking kit, and a potty plan are a solid start. have fun!

I just found this video honest and real. I have had conversations with other overlanders on you tube and feel I've got the best info to me starting up for my future journey from you and one other. I just got a 2017 jeep wrangler Sahara unlimited. I've been getting it set up with a 2.5 in lift and 34 in tires. Got new shocks and soon new springs then I feel I can get started,already got most of my camping gear with just a few items left to get. Thanks for your advice. Up until last November I was walking with a cane or a walker for the last 12 + years.I could not even sit in a vehicle for more then 45 minutes without drugging up. Well I found a doctor that to surgery on my back last November and started working again which is great and got my Jeep. So thank you for you information. I love your truck by the way. God Bless.

Thanks so much and that’s amazing! So happy that you are feeling better and able to get out to explore. The Jeep is a great choice and should be able to take you pretty much wherever you want to go! Good luck and enjoy!

A nicely presented video, here is my take on what "Overlanding" is: Vehicle dependant travel and exploration where the journey is the goal rather than a destination. It is long term. You can overland on a pushbike! Minimum items you need are a sleeping bag and a toothbrush! (and both are optional) 🙂 It is a lifestyle rather than a activity, as I explained it to someone a while ago; "A weekend away in a tent is camping, 10 years traversing the globe in a Defender 130, that's overlanding, you don't just do it and return to a day job!" This said, there is absolutely no reason to not get out for a weekend and explore the local or not so local areas, go for that roadtrip, camp, explore! Learn how to stay safe and go explore! 😀 Did I mention, the explore bit?

Thanks! And I think you're right too. There seems to be a large focus on the terminology on a lot of online forums and FB groups, but the spirit of Overlanding is vehicle dependent travel where the journey is the goal, rather than the destination. Unfortunately, for most of us in the US with day jobs, it's just not realistic to go on a long term expedition. So, you can either go to a state park and "camp" or you can go out into a national forest to explore and dispersed camp (in this case, I'm counting that as a short term "overlanding" trip because you're dependent on your vehicle and the journey is the focus). Again though, I try not to get too into discussions of semantics regarding the terminology because it's just counter productive. That said, I think you're totally right, :D. Thanks for watching and for the thoughtful comment!

Overland Ready, great perspective like tires or solar systems a topic that will be debated for ever. I have been car camping since I was a kid with my family, but now to sound cool I say I overland, then explain it is car camping. Either way it is fun and great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

@@jason_advntr_6755 Nailed it. It doesn't matter what you call it as long as you get out in your vehicle and explore!

Exactly right; get out there and you soon figure out what you need/want. If you've never camped at all, start by going to a regular campground. From there you figure out what kind of meals you want to eat and how you will prepare them. A campground will have a park grill, but for overlanding you will need to come up with an alternative (portable grill, propane stove, cook on the fiire, etc.) How big a cooler do you need? How many layers of clothes? A chair? A table? A 5 gallon jug of water? An awning or tarp for shade? Sleep in the back of the vehicle, or in a tent? Sleep on the ground, camp pad, air mattress, or folding cot? Pit toilet, or 5 gallon bucket, plastic bag liner and toilet seat top?

What's the difference in Camping & Overlanding?
@AllThingsOverlanding
@AllThingsOverlanding 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a heavily debated topic, but I would argue that overlanding is camping where you are also fully self sufficient and reliant on your rig. Typically it involves longer term trips where you move from one spot to the next and the journey itself is the real goal, not necessarily the spot you end up. I honestly try not to get too caught up in the terminology because I think as long as you’re getting out and exploring, that’s what really matters. Honestly, most of what I do is just go camping for a night or two and if I’m lucky, I might get 2-3 actual overlanding trips a year where I get to go longer and explore without hitting much civilization.
