I think your neckband looks fine. I've found for me, especially working with different kinds of knits, to baste the neckband on first. Then I take it to the serger to finish. Works every time. It is an extra step but well worth it!

Nice instructions. The pattern is lovely. It’s so difficult to actually teach about knit banding bc as you said, it depends on the weight & stretch of the knot. Trial and error (after learning the basics) is the best teacher, I think.

Nice sewing job. I always think my sewing is going to be as good even though I don't sew that much anymore. So important to keep your skills by doing more often. lol

I really like the idea of offsetting the neckline seam so it is not so obvious and honestly the sleeve cuff looks fine a bit loose. It looks like you planned it that way! That fabric I have also experimented with and yes it does 'grow".

Ah that makes me very happy hear :) Yes indeed, these fabric are so alluring and pretty, but the growth factors can be an really issue

I just finished a top that I cloned from a nonwoven top. I was expecting lots of ease, but it's more like a T-shirt when the original was more like a tunic. 🤷‍♀️. I figured it would grow, not cling.

Enjoyed this video. Reassuring that even someone like you (a very experienced sewist) can have things not go quite as planned. Like you said, every sewing project has potential for learning. And, such a good reminder for us newbies, that different knits behave differently. The fabric you were using reminds me of one of my favourite pair of lightweight long underwear tops, which I enjoy wearing as a Pyjama top. Mine has been washed a zillion times, but it's still so comfy.

Thank you for showing what to do with the softer knits regarding neckline and cuffs! Would have liked how you did the hem which was not shown. Good idea having a sew along as you learn quicker and not make mistakes etc.

always good to see some of the techniques I use when sewing knits re-enforced by such a professional as yourself...I just finished a poly/rayon/span, rib knit, button front top in a similar dark rose color as yours...I keep a soft teflon shoe on my iron as a buffer from the hot metal of the iron's sole plate...
@joygreig7768

A good practice which is used extensively by clothing manufacturers. Incidentally a soft or hard Teflon sole plate works even using a high heat setting.👍

It’s really good to see this video. I’ve been missing your KZfaq videos! One question - You did not discuss the hem. How do you keep the bottom edge from growing? I love your sew along video. Your explanations are so good!

I have been watching you for a long time and I have the "Master the Coverstitch Machine" book. I love all of your knit tops, but I'm wondering if I should get your active wear book for sewing the knit tops (I don't wear active wear as much)?

J, I like this format. I have a question about leggings. This will be my first pair and first time with this fabric. My problem is protruding tummy and thin legs. This makes my leggings roll down at the waist band. Sizing is also an issue. What are your ideas to keep that from happening?

@daxxydog5777

Honestly, there’s not much to teach! Just practice sewing straight seams on scrap material and you’ll get the feel of it. It’s kind of like gas pedal on a car - each machine is slightly different. My 1962 Rocketeer is in a cabinet and has a knee lever (which operates the foot pedal mounted inside the cabinet). I’m so used to it that when I use another machine, I still try to use my knee!😂😂
