I randomly found your video. It’s April 6th, 2019, well it’s the day my grandma died many years ago. Her name was Christine. It’s no doubt my grandma is looking over me with this. Blessings to you ❤️

This is a fantastic video. You answered ALL my questions. No other video I have watched mention pressure put on the pen. That's important. Thank you for answering that question. You are really inspiring.

Thank you so much for having the kindness and thoughtfulness to post this video for those of us who are just beginning our calligraphy journeys. 💖💖💖. You reminded me that everyone has useful knowledge to offer, no matter how long they have been learning a new skill. I don’t think I would feel confident enough to show the world my work or my practice sheets unless I felt I was at least somewhat advanced at calligraphy, but I applaud your openness and vulnerability in doing so! It really inspired me to see the progress that you’ve made and the visible improvements you’ve been able to achieve, no doubt through your consistent dedication! This video proves that you are by far more qualified than the most expert calligrapher to address the topics that are most relevant to beginner calligraphers. You just recently experienced what it’s like to be a beginner, so you still have the subjects and issues that you had to overcome fresh in your mind. I’ve watched/skimmed through probably 50-75 different beginner tutorials and yours taught me the most by far, particularly your discussion of the nibs you started out with, why they were insufficient, which handles and nibs you got that better met your needs, and specific reasons why those nibs/handles were better for you. I also thought it was so helpful to see the differences in performance between the various nibs.

Great job, and really fun to watch! I taught myself calligraphy years ago but didn't keep up with it. I stumbled on this video tonight and love that you shared what you're learning and how it's going. Thanks so much for sharing! 💕

I have learned through videos, that holding your pin correctly is very important, you have less stress on your fingers if the handle of your pen does not rest in the space between your thumb and index finger, rather the pen handle should but resting against the back knuckle of your index finger, which enables you to have less pressure on your finger gripping the pen and also allows a more fluid movement. I am glad to find your video, showing someone just starting out.

Wow! Thank you so much for your very informative and easy to understand video on how to learn calligraphy. It's nice to see how not every time it's perfect, but with practice it gets better as the writer becomes more experienced with the pen and ink. I love the pens you are using as well. I have just got back to using fountain pens when I write letters. I am also very interested to learn Calligraphy. I really love your descriptions and instructions on accessories and ink. 💖✍🏼️

Thank you so much for this. I received a beautiful calligraphy set for Christmas and didn't really know what I was doing ( I put the ink into the pen holder... didn't notice the hole in the bottom!) Decided to stop and do some research and I found yours was the best for beginners, even going over how to put the nib into the holder (I was doing it wrong - again!). Anyway, many thanks.

It's great to see someone who is not already an expert making a video, your tips are most welcome for a complete novice like myself. True experts sometime make thing look so easy that it can be disheartening when my results don't match up to theirs. Your video shows that it only takes practice, practice, practice to become competent. like you I just want to improve my handwriting style and to personalise cards and gifts for friends and family, not become a world class calligrapher. Thank you for the inspiration :).

Thank you so much for this video.Im using fountain speedball pens, they are a lot of fun: Didn’t want to invest fully until I decided if it was a hobby I would absolutely love ❤️, BUT, I believe it is true that the more invested you are the better equipment you have, and it does seem to come a little easier to me. You’re work is beautiful. Can’t wait for Christmas 🎄. Hoping for a new set of nibs and pen w/ ink.🙈

I would say that those of you who are already comfortable with brush lettering (like me) dip pen calligraphy should be very easy since they are very similar. I would recommend a more flexible nip since you aren't a complete beginner.

I also have that blue elephant nib for about a year now, but i am really having a hard time controlling the ink flow. I've tried mixing gum arabic to the ink hoping it would help, and i've tried different types of papers too. It's frustrating :(
@katbuzz54956 жыл бұрын
Try passing the nib through a flame or scrub it with toothpaste. Sounds like the coating is making the ink slide off.

Hello! I was wondering if you know about any calligraphy pens that i don't have to keep dipping into ink? maybe something like a pen with ink in a tube, but with that metal tip? Also are calligraphy pens meant to be only written slowly? I can't imagine how long writing a letter back in the day must have taken them.
@Unthymely6 жыл бұрын
Try a look at gouletpens. They have an online store and a youtube channel with a lot of resources. I've recently been looking into things like this as well. You can look for flexible nib fountain pens, but from what I've seen they aren't quite as good as dip pens for calligraphy styles. Noodler's Ahab seems interesting and only about $23. There are some impressive videos of it on youtube as well.

Can my ink be too liquid? I was given a bottle of ink but it sat on a shelf for some years....
@ScrapTimeVideos6 жыл бұрын
Just shake up the ink to make sure the ink has mixed with the liquid. If the ink has separated, then you can't really use it. Otherwise, it should be ok.
