Thanks Rob. I never knew to put my finger on the bobbin and feel the thread pop into place.

Rob, thank you for a most informative video. The advice I give all new sewers is use quality thread and take your machine in for an annual service. It does not guarantee that you will be problem free but it does minimize the chances. If you are having tension issues first thing re-thread the machine, second change your needle ( I am presuming thread , needle and fabric are appropriate). Loved your video

Excellent explanations ! I am really impressed . I finally understand these kind of issues . Rob you are an excellent teacher. I always liked and appreciated your videos, but this last series are so well done in the best professional style. Thank you very ,very much! ( I am a doctor and that's the reason I like these kind of logic explanations based on "symptoms" followed by a "diagnostic"!🤗)

I am sewing for 40 years so I knew most of it. But I find your videos very informative and still learn a bit in almost every one of them. I love this series.

Thank you rob. Been having trouble with my bernina record for years, off and on. As you know, their tension set up us different. But your mechanical description of how tension helped me. I started trouble shooting. Thicker thread through the tension area to clean it…. Then….All these years I didn’t realize I had to thread the machine to the right of the tension spot. You may not remember me but I’m from sm. My ex and I went to a “teach how to sew” retreat in Cambria. (Last name was Gonzalez). You opened up my quilting by teaching me how to free motion quilt and raw edge appliqué. Love your videos and so proud to follow your career. Love leah

I was in a local quilt club and my tension was too tight even on zero. One of the ladies said that could be caused by moving the machine aroundtoo much. I can't understand why moving the machine ( from my house, to the car, to our quilting place) can upset tension. ????? I had it proffessionaly fixed, but that costs what a Wal-Mart Singer would cost!!!

Thank you so much! I have got a pfaff quilt expression 720 and with a thin thread like a Gütermann mini King the thread gets thinner and thinner until it breaks when I free motion quilt or use the appliqué stitch. It's wriggled up more or less, something seems to rub on it in the hidden upper tension area. I often minimize the tension, I have tried out different needles ... Sometimes this seems to help, but not always. Could you do a video about that please, too? This happens although I have cleaned everything in there that is within my reach! Best wishes from Germany! Andrea

I've really appreciated your tension tutorials. Thank you! I'm wondering why my seams do not sew at the beginning occasionally at the end. I am making myself use leaders but that's distracting. Appreciate any help you can give me. I sew on pfaff performance 5.2. Also on a pfaff older. Thanks Jeanne

Try simplyholding the threads in back of your work for the first few stitches.....I know, we need a third hand to do that sometimes, but it can be done.

Great video. So here’s something I came up against this past weekend. I was sewing Kimberbell’s fabric baskets and there is satin stitching all around the outside. The machine/thread worked fine for a while and next thing I knew, the needle broke. Rethreaded, checked bobbin, replaced the needle. It happened 2 more X. I changed thread and all of the other steps above. Sewed maybe 40 stitches and needle broke. Things were clanging and crunching. I was wondering if it was a tension issue. I broke 5 needles in about 20 minutes. Ends of thread were frayed. I checked bobbin case to make sure white dots lined up. Tried thread #3 and everything worked like a charm. Does that have anything to do with the weight of the thread as the spool is used up? I know you mentioned in last video the weight changes outcome so I’m curious as to how to rectify it. (Ellisimo Gold machine and polyester thread) Ty!!!

Ps to comment I made above. It sounded like my needle was hitting metal. I removed plate and could not find anything in there. I watched the thread come off of the spool and it didn’t appear that it was getting caught on a bur or anything. Thx!

Yes, make sure that you have the correct style needle for your high speed, straight stitcher. It is recommended that you use a HLx5 style, not our standard 130/705 style

Do we loosen the tension when sewing through a thick project (many layers of fabric)?
@StitchinHeaven

Possibly, especially if you lengthen your stitch length. But, not an always rule like loosening top tensions for zigzag

With Janome 9450 foot down when threading. ??? Confused.
@StitchinHeaven
@StitchinHeaven 2 жыл бұрын
I looked at the owners manual for that machine, you have a special "Lock Out" key function that will Open your discs while the foot is down, so you are still making sure the tension discs are open for the threading/unthreading
