Hi! New chinchilla owner here, how are your babies doing? My new babies are starting to adjust and I hope you’re doing well too!

@@hearts4mikeafton They're 11 months now and super happy to sit on my shoulder for snuggles. The smaller sister has an infection atm but she's taking her medication like a champ!

As an update unfortunately my chinnie past away 😔 I was always so overprotective of her to make sure she was happy and safe I didn't forsee a winter boot would've been the deadliest thing I didn't protect her from 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Unfortunately it's very common for male chinchillas to hump and chase each other 🙁 There's not really a whole lot you can do to stop it, as long as there is not any fur pullling or agressive fighting going on you don't need to worry too much as it is pretty normal. You could try offering them lots of toys and other things to distract them during play time. If they start behaving that way in their cage though or it starts to get really aggressive then it might be time to seperate them. It's a very hard decision to make but if one of the chinchillas is becoming distressed it's the kindest thing to do and they will be far happier on their own. I have only ever kept one pair of males together and it didn't work out as I have female chinchillas because they could smell the female they started to fight aggressively and I had no choice but to seperate them. They were much happier on their own and the least dominant one really came out of his shell once we had seperated them.

Before you seperated them. Did they fight and then cuddle and sleep together and look for eachother? Or did they stay away entirly unless fighting? Thats whats threw me off all this time from seperating. And they have so many chew toys out everywhere. And thank you for the information.

@@Tanya-gu5zz Initially they would just have a spat and cuddle up to each other afterwards which was fine and normal. But it just got worse to the point where the dominant chinchilla would just constantly chase him around tge cage, he was terrified and cowered away from the other one and hid in the corner of the cage. I seperated them before they were fighting aggressively and drawing blood, but I could tell by their body language that would be the next thing that would happen. They were so much happier in seperate cages.

Hi , I don't have any available at the moment. I have had chinchillas born this year but I think I am going to be keeping them all, they are so hard to part with 🙂 If you live in the UK though there is a list of reputable breeders, if you join the chinchillas of the UK facebook group they have a file containing a list of good breeders from all around the UK. I also know of a few good rescues that have chinchillas. If you are in the UK just bare in mind most breeders won't sell at the moment due to lockdown , so you may have to wait until restrictions have been lifted by the government. Hope this helps

Hi there are quite a few plain rolled oats plain shredded wheat in the US you can give them plain cheerios, in the UK you can't give them these as the cheerios available in UK contain a lot of sugar. Rose hips Goji Berries Dried apple leaves Dried dandelion heads (my chins love these) Bee pollen Marshmallow root dried marigold flowers dried hibiscus flowers dried rose Petals Cactus flowers Dried nettle leaves Organic groats Rose buds Chamomile flowers All treats really need to be given in small quantities and in moderation as chinchillas have really sensitive digestion and too many treats will cause issues. @@sarahtapsell629 Hi yes with things like the dried flowers and oats you only really want to give a very small pinch of them. Things like rose hips, goji berries and bee pollen I only give once a week and in very small amounts again a small pinch for bee pollen, no more than one or two goji berries. When I am trying to tame a chinchilla I usually use just a different brand of pellet as a treat, as I can give these in slightly larger quantities. I use Beaphar care + chinchilla food as a treat pellet, I also sometimes just pick out some bits from their timothy hay that I know they like and offer them that.

Its a VivaPet Outdoor Octagon Rabbit pen. To be honest it's a bit flimsy, so it wasn't really any good for my rabbits but works okay for my chinchillas, as long as they don't kick it. It's a bit frustrating to put together as its really meant for outside and the pegs help secure it in the ground. But it elrks okay when its all set up.
