I feel like TJ doesn't want to give up his tricks until he retires, otherwise you'll have a Cruz style situation where he's been completely figured out while he's still fighting.

TJ is my favorite fighter. He was just a wrestler when he started but has developed into a true mixed martial artist. From his footwork to his cardio, his game plans and versatility, he is so well rounded. He is also a really chill cool guy and seems like a decent person. I hope he starches Cody again!

While you are the farthest thing from being wrong, I think it is extremely difficult to fully understand his efforts to perfection. This guy has the craziest game ever. Wrestling kickboxing? Of course but nevermind that. This guys footwork is on another level.
@MarckCat5 жыл бұрын
Jone Jones has the perfect combination, not this dude
@richrobb29775 жыл бұрын
Marck.Cat do you have adhd? jon Jones' footwork is nowhere near tj's. Are you kidding? Watch how unpredictable tj moves then watch Jones. Jon Jones is not as good as you think anyway. You do, but if that's what you want to Think, why does he struggle with guys with his frame? Example, gus. I'm sure if stephen struve was a little more skilled he'd give Jones problems as well. Reason is simple, his entire fight game is built around using the length of his limbs to be honest. Which isn't a bad thing. But how come you can't fight guys your size and win with ease like you do with everybody else? Again its not a bad thing, I admire some of it. Like the standing guillotine choke he used to put lyoto machida to sleep. That takes an incredible amount of leverage. 6 4 and an 84 " reach makes that alot easier. But get real, how dare you mention Jon Jones and versatility. Nobody has demonstrated anywhere near the ambidextrous capability that dillishaw has. It's unique and in a league of its own. Conor is about as close as someone has came to that.
@whyistherumgone56935 жыл бұрын
Marck.Cat yea Jon jones has too.

Nice instruction. Also to note, that the high kick that sent Cody to the mat in their last fight was set up beautifully if you watch closely. TJ was purposely looking down while kicking Cody's legs. Even with that big tell (which TJ was purposely doing to set a trap) he was still landing leg kicks. Then when TJ see's Cody stand square (which is a tell for Cody when he's about to strike/counter up close) while looking down and mimicking the widnup of a low kick, TJ slightly bent more at the waist and high kicked Cody right on the jaw. It was the perfect trap that Cody didnt see coming. Being that Cody was in his "set" position (standing square, ready to strike/counter), TJ threw his trick kick knowing that Cody cant check it because he's standing square to him. Cody's options are either take the kick full (which is already hurting from previous kicks), or quickly scoot back (dodging) causing him to pull his feet together, stand straight up with his feet slightly behind his center of gravity (off balanced), leaving Cody in a position to dodge a low kick, but wide open for the hidden, trick, high kick, that sent him to the ground. Granted, I didnt see it live because there's just too much action, but after watching the replays, it was amazing to see how much planning/laying traps that TJ was doing in the mist of a crazy fight. The amount of multitasking and thinking/planning/executing that these "smarter" fighters are doing in the middle of the fight ie TJ, GSP, Conor (his wins), etc. is truely mesmerizing.
@horenziengeloven5 жыл бұрын
The trick is to learn to give a low kick at close distance, that way you generate more power (and lose less) and you can actually make a solid combination instead of only one kick. Besides, learning to do it with the front leg is even more useful, since you can hit the inside (the weak spot) of the thigh.

Stephen Wonderboy Thompson did his first ever seminar in my gym and one of the best things I ever learnt about watching a world class fighter train is their technique. Like literally so on point, perfectly physically tuned technique ready to just go off any second. Feet always in the right position, efficient as anything. One thing he mentioned was not to telegraph your shots, same as TJ here

TJ says that the technique to swing your arms when you throw your leg kicks is not efficient but if you look at the power Barboza and Gaethje generate from that it's crazy.You know it's coming but you can do very little to stop it imo.But each to their own.TJ does sound intelligent here though.
