Resources that I found helpful while making my own application:
The Oxford Psych - Being a trainee PWP
• Being a trainee Psycho...
Slav Zhelev - PWPs: Who we are and what we do
• Video
Lizzie Sargent's blog post on A Day in the Life - lizziesargent.com/2020/05/17/...
*I watched most of Slav Zhelev's videos on being a PWP, however I noticed some of his most informative videos on applications/interviews are no longer available so I can't link them here. His channel is still incredibly useful to understand PWP work so would 100% recommend.

Just got an offer for a PWP position and had no prior clinical experience. What I did observe is that almost all places will ask the same kind of questions, the offer I got was interesting because I didn't think it went well but they thought I was great! So the only thing I can add to all of your advice is that very unique non-clinical expereince can also play very heavily in your favour and make you stand out. Don't feel you have to be completely clinical to get these positions. I also overved this with a lot of other people.

Great video very useful. I am doing my personal statement based on the person specification. The Assessment Method has application form or interview. Please advice does the personal statement include the Interview response or just focus on the application form.
@vickilee2470

Short answer would be that I don’t know as I’ve never been on any panel. I’d imagine the personal statement is for the application form, but there may be overlap between your PS and interview responses anyway.

For the experience aspect of the personal statement, is it fine to mostly base it on one closely related role if many parts of it aligns with the PWP role?

Fabulous, congratulations! I had a role play, standard interview questions (eg. what makes you a suitable candidate, etc), questions around risk, mode of delivery. I think it varies according to service though. You should def check out the links in the description - those channels/blogs have way more experience with interviews. All the best in your upcoming ones and merry Xmas!

Hello! This video was really helpful. Thank you so much :) I just wanted to ask if there is any way international students can get these roles? Like through the Graduate Visa Scheme or on a Health and Care worker visa?
@vickilee2470
@vickilee2470 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you found it helpful! I don't think the trainee PWP role is an eligible job for the Health & Care Worker visa. Obviously I'm not qualified to speak on visas, but this is based on a quick look at the eligibility section. I might have missed something though. www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa With the Grad visa, it's less clear - it might be worth contacting the unis/services to ask for confirmation if that's important to you.

@@vickilee2470 Hi there, Vicki, I was just wondering if you were an international or home applicant. Would you be able to share your status at the time of application, i.e. Graduate Visa holder, permanent residency that made you eligible for the role? There is just so little information on how international applicants can actually pursue the role.

It's hard to say without knowing what experience you're referring to, but I'd think of transferable skills and be creative about it. I wrote about a non-clinical/relevant role that I linked to experience with a high caseload. Feel free to share what experience you had in mind if you're comfortable doing so! :)

Such an informative video! I wanted to ask if I’m successful in the trainee pwp role would it affect my chances of getting onto the DClin as they are both NHS funded?
@vickilee2470
@vickilee2470 2 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the tPWP role would give you invaluable experience for the DClin, however there has been (multiple) recent changes to HEE funding policy so I would look here for the latest updates www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/mental-health/psychological-professions/funding-psychological-professions-training-programmes

@@mckenziethorton8725 I think it depends on whether you are happy to wait 2 years before commencing your DClin. I get the sense that a lot of people are not willing to wait around as the DClin could take multiple rounds (years) of applications before being successful so they want to start applying ASAP. It really depends on your personal circumstances and where you're at in life! Lots of factors to consider.

@vickilee2470
@vickilee2470 2 жыл бұрын
Your best bet is probably the NHS jobs website. When I was looking, I basically just googled and looked on all the main job hunting websites. I also set up alerts so that every time a new post is released, I get an email. I think most universities/services have a Sept intake, some will have a Jan and March intake too. All the best in your applications!

Hi ,very straightforward information and to the point ,than you 🙏 Having had therapy myself ,would that be a obstacle if I try to apply for that role ? Over two years ago I finished a foundation degree in health care science ..would that be any help to apply ? Are there any resources or examples of course work as I am really not good at writing essays and reflections ☺️I find them so boring . Sorry about the long winded message 🙏
@vickilee2470
@vickilee2470 2 жыл бұрын
You do not have to disclose any personal therapy you have had unless you wish to - so no, not an obstacle. In fact, I think lived experience can be helpful if utilised/reflected upon and integrated into practice appropriately. I don't know what a foundation degree is so can't comment on that - I don't see how it would hurt your application though. As far as I'm aware - course work is marked at Level 7 (Masters equivalent) for the PG Cert and Level 6 (Undergrad final year equivalent) for the Apprenticeship - hopefully that gives you some idea of what to expect. I think most unis have a learning support team so you can get additional guidance around academic writing if needed. I only had to write 2 academic essays though - the rest of my assignments/assessments were a mix of live marked roleplays, session tape submissions, an exam & presentations. I can also do a future video breaking down the coursework I had in detail if that helps :)

Do you think most people applying would have a masters?
@madhumitaasundar7003
@madhumitaasundar7003 Жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure if anyone’s asked you this but can you apply for trainee PWP roles on a graduate visa? I’ve just finished my masters and I also did my BSc in the UK but most of the trainee PWP roles go hand in hand with the IAPT PGCert which doesn’t take on international students. I was wondering if you could just apply for trainee PWP roles independently without doing an IAPT course?
@vickilee2470
@vickilee2470 Жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware, you need to prove that you have right to work. The PG Cert is also funded, so you'll need to check if the grad visa gives you eligibility for those funds. The trainee role consists of both the uni course and in-service clinical work. There's no trainee role without the course - it's the course certificate that allows you to transition into a qualified PWP role after completing training. Obviously I don't know very much at all about the grad visa - If anyone else has info on the this please share!
