My stroke 5 years ago mainly affected my short term memory. I spent 3 months in the stroke ward of a hospital. After my release to return home I was referred to a specialist who dealt with memory problems. I attended once (forget what happened) but I never had any faith in his treatment because I reasoned that I had permanently lost the use of a portion of my brain which had been dedicated to short term memory. I hadn't been taught enough about brain plasticity even though it was obviously occuring during my whole recovery. I now know a lot more about this and am amazed at my improvement. My greatest achievement has been the return of a full driver's licence at age 70+. The concept of plasticity should be emphasised to all stroke survivors. Thank you for this video.

I'm a retired Home Health Aide I use all these things but it was old school ways, 1990. Most of my patients where stroke patients. Now I see why my physical therapists love working with me. I would observe them working with my patients only 2 times a week and I work with them the other days. It takes a team to help people no matter if you're medical or educational.

You have helped me so much I've gotten no help whatsoever from the hospitals here in my country. I live in Trinidad there is no help for stroke victims. It's basically a death sentence here. If it wasn't for u I don't know where I'd be with my health now. Much love ❤ 😍

@hemasookram, I’m so sorry to hear about your healthcare experience. So many places around the world can’t or don’t offer specialized care for stroke survivors. But I’m so glad you’re finding these videos helpful 😊❤️

Hi! I survived a cerebellar infarct in 2001. This video is a wonderful find, validating the compensative approach that I have taken. I think that a video geared toward helping a family to understand and support a survivor would be helpful. In my case, I had very minimal physical effects. My deficits seem to be rapidly accelerating as I age, and my adult children don't necessarily understand my situation.

Hi James! Thank you so much for your kind words. There is absolutely no shame in taking a compensatory approach. Truly, sometimes, it's the best way forward! I really appreciate your feedback on making a video to help families better understand a survivor's experience. I think that would be incredibly valuable. I hope that you are doing well. Please take care of yourself

Hi James...I too had the same cerebellar infarct in 2001.Still get dreadfully tired but no other physical effects apart from slurred speech. I do struggle with learning digital skills and fell so far back in my local adult learner class that I withdrew.I couldn't remember one week to the next and it knocked my confidence terribly as I'm educated to degree level,(1987 Graduation).I realise I've been declining with my memory and not taking into account the hidden deficits of stroke and now they are becoming more obvious as I age. Anyway,just wanted to say hi to a fellow stroke survivor.I do feel that others expect too much of us sometime, especially when the stroke occurred 20 years ago.It can be quite isolating sometimes, especially when people talk over you.

I am watching thing and I think : - It is likely watched by people facing those issues. - As you explain the phrase is already forgotten though it is the last 2 seconds. - A written text could have been a plus so the video could be put on pause and read again. Captions ? Not that much handy in this context. YT should introduce full transcript just like Udemy does for instance.

Hi... This is very helpful... my mother had stroke a week ago... still waiting for the follow up check up with the doctor... when do you recommend to start doing this therapy?
@PostStrokeOrg

Hey there! I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that both of you are doing okay. Usually, starting therapy soon as possible is always better, but it should always follow the doctor's orders. Everyone is so different in how they recover that getting the doctor's approval first is important. I wish you both the best!
