Just maybe your best video Annique! Slow, deep into the keys in small sections, with careful fingerings and over and over again. It's really comes down to that. Even 10 minutes a day for this cadenza will amaze you a month forward. I was never taught how to practice. Little by little over the years I've learned just what you are saying. You are so right. I hate to practice and am impatient with myself but I'm getting better and having more fun. Now if I can only get the Chopin Ballade G-Minor coda! I have to go back and take your advice on that one. :) Thank you Annique. Best wishes.

First, you gotta find the right fingering for "you"(I have seen like 4 or more versions, piano secrets provides easiest, but you can add on change in right hand) And then most importantly! Your gesture with finger and wraist really matters to speed up. It requires a bit more angle than flat style fingering and feeling relaxed, wraist rotates to hit right and left notes. In this case you minimize your finger work, you just move your hands together down, then the cadenza is play through. Let's say, it's actually quite easy to play slow, so don't force yourslef to speed up with mistakes. You will find it amazingly improving after you sleep + wake up. That's how our brain work!

You know before I stumbled upon this channel when it had around 100 subscribers, I never thought of fingering as anything other than just numbers on fingers you use on the piano keys. But even since the episode where Anique couldn't figure out what it's called in English, and that she's reminded me fingering has an alternate meaning, every time I hear the words fingering it doesn't carry the same meaning anymore 😅 "thanks" to you Anique. 45 years of innocence ruined...

I just loved this! Well done young lady (that was affection, not patronising). But, after a hard day's gardening, if it's ok with you, I'll go back to practicing this (which, co-incidentally, I am doing) - tomorrow. I'm taking a couple of day's rest from doing exactly what you say - but - my 72 year old fingers don't do what I want - so in the last section I have to use alternate three note chords in each hand - my fingers won't bend quickly enough. But I will try the rest of your fingering and see whether it works better than mine. This is all a problem from not playing for nearly 50 years (or it's an excuse) and if you can dissuade any young people from doing that, in 50 years time they will be grateful to you (that might be a bit difficult for a young person to appreciate). I now have to do daft things to get over the frustration of losing an ability that I once had - like now giving myself a year to play Liszt's Sonata and Hammerklavier - call me daft if you wish - it's now far too late! ;) On the other hand, I could just play your CD.... em... No, I promise I'll practice! I promise.

I think I have the technique to play most of this piece, but I've never really practiced it because of the 2 cadenzas. But now you have inspired me to try again. Do you 1) First use the fingering in the score then adjust it if needed, or 2) Just come up with the fingerings yourself? or 3) It depends?

Isnt practicing the same part that are not good at until we improve by at least 1%, for every single day is what we must do when learning any instrument? I have been doing that for the past 2 years since i started learning the instrument :D, i was able to start and finish Liebestraum no 2 in 2-3 months, now i just need to practice the last page then i can proudly claim that im able to Play it. Now im moving to no 3 while practicing no 2 and other exam pieces

As a guitarist I was shocked to see the number 5 in your fingerings. We only use 1-4 (thumb is behind the fretboard) for the left hand and use Spanish letters for right hand the thumb-p (pulgar), index-i (indice), middle-m (medio), ring-a (anular), and pinky-c (chiquito). Quite a difference. Starting out with the most correct finger movements really does produce the best results, but (as with the piano) they are usually unsupplied, I believe because of individual hand/ finger shapes. So time spent finding the right fingerings for each piece is well worth it. And annoying.

Much as I'm enjoying the language flubs lol, it's not "Everything starts with a good fingering", it's "Everything starts with good fingering" " "A good fingering" is something completely different and has nothing to do with the piano or any other musical instrument. If you think it does, I challenge you to play "Melancholy Baby" on it. Ask a native English speaking friend to explain. Keep up the good work. Love your content.♥ Edit: For those who are getting the wrong end of the stick here, my comment was lighthearted - hint, there's a joke in it - and for those who may have missed Annique's joke because they do not have as excellent a command of English as Ms Göttler, or just enough English to think "a good" is correct and risk tripping themselves up when they use it.
