I worked with a shipwright back in the 80's - I learned that Shipwrights can do anything! Fix, Fabricate, Repair, Finish, Paint, Restore... They are a combination of Carpenter, Cabinet maker, Cooper, Blacksmith, Rigger and a little lumberjack when needed. Thankyou sir for sharing your vast wealth of knowledge... Great tutorial... 👍

As a retired Millwright/Machinist I can say with certainty that this is the best video I have ever watched by a gentleman who knows what he’s at. I always get my best results in the vise also. Best sharpening video I have seen ! Having spent 4 years in a sharpening shop that was founded in 1936, & only fixing chainsaws, I enjoyed this video. Covers all the points we were taught, down to removing the burr. (We were told to tap the cutter with a vertical stroke, using the end of the wooden file handle. This would fold the burr down over the cutting edge, and break it off.) We would often have 20 or 30 chains to sharpen first up in the morning, and did them all by hand. The owner of the shop said that no other way would get the right finish on the cutting edge.

There’s no substitute for experience and not only do I wish I had a fraction of this gentleman’s, but his knowledge, skill, eye for detail and patience of a professional should be the benchmark every novice or veteran forester/woodworker, alike, aspire to. GREAT VIDEO !! I have been sharpening for about a year now and have watched hundreds of videos about sharpening, maintenance, etc. I finally got the hang of it and do pretty well. It all came down to doing it by hand, having the correct file and raker gauge, and most importantly feel. You nailed it in your video and validated what it took me a long time to learn. I wish I had seen this video first before all the rest. Experience is a great teacher and it looks like you have a lot of that. I just wish I could have learned from your experience instead of my trial and error. Thank you.

I have used a file a few times to sharpen a chainsaw but I honestly feel like I could be a novice and never have touched a chainsaw blade or file and be able to come away with a perfectly sharp and safe chainsaw blade. Outstanding explanation & demonstration on how to properly sharpen a chain & achieve proper raker height. How to properly hold the file & make the cut was excellent. Measuring the raker, removing the gauge first, make the cut, check it again & simply round off the raker's corner for the final touch. This is by far the best tutorial I have seen on this subject. I've never been able to sharpen a chain and have it to work correctly again. Sitting in line with the bar and looking down made all the difference! I'll need to practace to get all the chips the same size but it cuts as fast as it did new. Thank you for this video!

Sir, u made teeth sharpening an art, that just using some simple quality tools, and patience u can sharpen your own blades. Through 32 years of chainsawing, I always had my blades sharpened at the dealer. But the cost every coupla yrs would creep upwards. Not real happy lately of the quality of their sharpening, but with this video, gonna try this myself. What a great teacher...to the point easy to undetstand, no fluff....thank u!!
