But unfortunately we live in an imperfect world where money is often tight and you gotta make do with less than perfect solutions which may or may not last. But atleast it gets the job done for the time being when it's most critical.

Why don't you buy and use a connection pipe? Cheaper, faster, safer, why are you wasting so much money, energy and time?
