I have everything happening in this video but pad wear...the transmission was under warranty and I realize that changed it then maybe one solenoid and not all of them. From 2 years ago after this winter I started driving it again and it just recently started not shifting into drive until it was warm then the same with reverse, now it barely goes into reverse unless I drive it at highway speeds. In the morning it's a bat out of hell and then 3-4, 4-5 gets sketchy, if I don't drive it for an hour I have to wait about 10 minutes before it goes into drive. I have an O2J swap but really just want this tiptronic to work as I'm buying a really clean 5 speed MK4 VR6 Jetta from a friend this month.

I want to hear that! LOL. I have a 1.8t with a 09G. It slips in the automatic side but the triptronic shifts fine. Wish I was closer to have you look at it.

Great, helpful and informative video. Am hoping it also applies to me, as my car is the same...an '04 Jetta 1.8t with an 09A Tip-tronic. It does exactly the same issue, as it loses the shift from 3rd to 4th just like in the video. If starting very gently and don't let the RPM's go past 2500 for each gear, it usually will go into 4th without the crazy rev/neutral effect. And even better when using the Tip-Tronic, that is, am able to push it slightly harder, as in shifts at about 2800 RPM's. My situation differs from the video in that there are 3 codes in the system: 0300 Transmission Fluid Temp, 0526 Brake Light Switch and 0652 Gear Monitoring. Does this suggest that it might not not be the N92 solenoid issue and possibly something else? Please keep up the great work for us learners :)

if it neutrals when it should shift to 3 or 4 then you probably need a trans.

Hi I know this is a long shot but I´ve got a Jetta with no reverse, no parking and not anything, now it only read drive, that's all it does. We fixed the initial issue which was that the shift were having trouble getting through, but can you help me identify if the problem is the solenoid 90? Before we fixed the shift that car did park and reversed after the new arrangement it stopped and started only reading drive

I appreciate your knowledge. Ibhave an allroad with a tiptronic and i can assure you that 1 gear does not freewheel. You know it with an abruptness if you acedently hit first in manual mode. Id love tonpick your brain about a trans problem I AM having. I need to figure out if its actually the selonoids. My second gear feels like it has a high and low. It engages and then engages hard under hard acceleration. Sorry just heard your email comment.

Oh, so tiresome. Your allroad does not have the same transmission as the one in this video. So your statement of "I can assure you that 1 gear doesn't freewheel" means nothing to the different transmission in this video. The term tiptronic is a "feature" of lots of different transmissions, it is NOT the name of one specific transmission. Thanks for watching!

Awesom video!!!, i have a 2-3 lock, gose away when it wormsup. And shifts fine, but has to wormup first. Solenoid change would fix it?

@@CoolAirVw i think its stuck in second gear, so not shifting to third until ist worm... all i got after cold start is at full rev. (5500 rpm) 24mph and its a 1.9 tdi I manage to cheat the system if i got downhill and let the car roll in neutral and pas 30mph, than putit back to Drive it will shift, but if I slow down again under 24mph it will stuck again if its not wormenaugh...

Just moments after 7:12 I state, "this information is printed from the sst manual for o9a. This is VW's own training literature. SST means special service training I believe. You might be able to down load this in pdf form from internet somewhere. search for 09A sst pdf

I have problem, my golf 4 1.9tdi 74kw when gearbox is cold, it wont shift from 1st to second gear, i need to press full gas pedal to rpms go to the maximum, and after that it will shift to second gear

When you mentioned neutrals on 2-3 shift, is that what they refer to as the 2-3 flare?

flare would be short unexpected increase in rpm on a shift. Neutral would be there's nothing there, doesn't hold at all after a shift.

I replaced the solenoids and test drove but after 30 minutes of driving it does the same thing I come to a stop and trans neutralize, I shift to reverse then drive and it goes but when I stop at stop sign there’s no drive I shift to reverse but sometimes it takes longer to engage, do I have to reset shift parameters and which scanner do you recommend, I have a Autel but it can’t reset it only does the basic kick down procedure, I did the jumper wire from the battery pos and neg but it didn’t work thanks

I have a 09a my only issue with my transmission is that it won't shift out of 1st unless I almost redline it. Once out of first it shifts beautiful through all gears untill I am slow enough to need first.

Hey, nice video. I recently Lost reverse on this transmission, although when I lifted the car it spins backwards in reverse with same force on neutral (neutral spins forward) It does not speed up when I accelerate. do you know what may be cause?

im in an 09a nightmare. my new to me gti would intermittently throw a solenoid b error code and give me extremely hard shifts in all gears. like slamming into each gear even at very slow speeds. but the would go away with a simple key on and off. so inevitably it had the error code and hard shifts all the time and i took it to get them replaced. it still had hard shifts so they recommended a used one with warranty. they installed it and it still has hard shifts but now only in 3-4. wondering if my TCM could be bad? and a 50$ part could have saved me what is now 5k$. but i went to a german specialist hoping to avoid the rabbit hole that it has become.

If your car still shifts hard when warm then its your valve body is bad not solenoids.

Richard, it almost sounds like 09A owners should add a transmission fluid change every what 50k miles? Might this improve solenoid reliability? I did the solenoids on one TDI with cold shifting 2-3 that to my knowledge had never had a fluid service in 180k.

I think all automatic owners should change their fluid every 50k or maybe even more frequent, whether they have solenoid sticking problem or not.

Mine wouldn't shift out of 1st when I bought it till it was fully warmed up my buddy who ran a vw dealership changed the harness inside the tranny so it got a tranny fluid change at 194k shifted great after that, then at about 225k I lost reverse change all the solenoids used Cobra so it got another fluid change and it shifts great it does like to warm up a few minutes when it's cold but she's at 240k now and it's going strong I'm gonna do a tranny drain with amsoil this coming spring.

scan it to see what code. Maybe you did but you didn't say. Assuming its the same code would be a logical fallacy. Also scanning with vagcom might give you some info that a generic obd2 scanner might not.

How much fluid should be in the tranny? I drained somewhere in the neighborhood of 4.5-5 liters. This seems high. How much do you think, roughly, is "undrainable"? I think previous owner added too much over time and I want to get as close to the right amount as possible--just replaced solenoids.

My jatco 09A goes from 4 to 5 and then down shifts to 4 again and up to 5. It also put in the gears hard sometimes. What could it be?

diagnosis would be necessary. Starting point would be to drive it with scan tool hooked up, while monitering gear command to see if computer was commanding it to behave that way.

@@CoolAirVw okey, i will try to hook up my vcds and see if thats the problem. 00347 - solenoid valve 8 (n281) 30-10 open or short to plus - intermittent. Is the fault found on the trans.

Question: if from sitting at a light to accelerating and you only creep forward until the car is moving enough to engage first gear that can’t be fixed?

So, I got a 09A with solenoids symptoms, I got the full kit from cobra trans, is there any chance it could make it worse if solenoids werent the problem to begin with? I ask because car is drivable (just a bit annoying right now). And I really dont have time to take it to a shop if after solenoids change it gets worse.

testing would be necessary to know.. to start with clear the code, drive and pay attention to what happens AS the code reoccurs.

@@CoolAirVw Hi, Ierased the code, did a test drive and the fault appears again. The transmission goes to emergency mode. I am thinking of replacing the N88, N92 and N89 coils.

@@miguelp9379 what happened AS the code reocccurred? If it neutraled when it hit 3rd gear or has no 3rd gear then solenoids aint gonna help.

@@CoolAirVw Once the code is erased, the car works fine, when you come to a complete stop and want to accelerate again, the code appears and the car remains in third gear, the speeds no longer enter.

Hey, question since you are well versed in this. Have an 02 jetta with the 09A. Problem its doing, at start up, will not go into drive, will go into reverse, but not drive for varying amount of time. May take 30 sec, may take 5 min. Once it does go into drive all gears are fine. Any input would be greatly appreciated

What is the latest Fix I have a 2003 with 89000 miles, I bought it New I m original owner I didn’t sell it for this reason, it started with harsh shifting then sudden down shift’s, then revers delay, before it got any worse this transmission shop said he could fix it and kept car for 7 months told me he tore it apart and didn’t find any wear he thought it was the solenoids, he tested solenoids they passed the test, he towed car to VW dealership, they told him these Trannys were disposable not repairable so I picked it up and parked it, it’s been parked since 2011 I want to know how much would it cost to do a conversion done, it’s a very clean nice car, I also heard it is the TCM this car came out with the wrong one to replace it with the 09A 927 750 AJ and it should work, if my Sol’s are not Shorted, I’d like to know, which route to take I don’t have throw away money l don’t want to blow away my retirement. Thanks 🙏

Hello sir New here on the channel . My own 05 TDI wagon has some trans codes 00300,0526,01236,0652.-1045. most with notation signal implausible. I would like to check fluid level as a matter of course and cant find any info in alldata or MOD or on the web. Also is the pdf on location and function of solenoids gone from VW Vortex? 09A Trans 00300 Trans temp signal implausible - intermittent 00526 Brake light Switch Signal Implausible intermittent 01236 Shift Selector locking solenoid Open/Short to ground intermittent 00652 Gear monitoring Signal Implausible 01045 Tiptronic switch (F189) Implausible signal Looks to me like a possible harness and or /connector problem. I see in alldata a tool to check fluid level. It looks like a longer pipe connected at 30 degrees to a shorter one. Maybe the shorter part is inserted into the top fill port while observing drops coming out of longer running at operating temp. I don't know I could find zero service info on this. My plan was check fluid level Inspect/ test harness Check power and grounds and connections at tcu and trans before. I drop the pan. You sent info on 01m Are the solenoid locations and functions the same? At this point I'm not looking to diagnose these codes without covering the basics first. ​@@CoolAirVw driving cold, level ground, light to moderate load. 1-2 upshifts @ 1600 rpm 2-3 upshifts @ 3000-3050 . Then abruptly shifts too 4th and drops to 1100 rpm. Once warm/operating temp shifts normally. Im According to truth table. N88 is sticking (?open?) . Only thing concerns me is "implausible" code definitions. Im gonna chk Power and grounds also inspect the harness and connectors before I pull the trigger and order the solenoids. Are the solenoids from Cobra OK? he says they are OEM supplier. Thanks for responding and I'll update as I progress.

@@gmau3945 No way I can know what your problem is. next step would be to monitor gear command vs what is actually happening. 00652 should worry you because lots of times trans needs replaced for it.

plugging in solenoids in wrong location can cause this. defective solenoid can cause this.

@@CoolAirVw I have a 5 speed automatic tiptronic trans. Does first and second fine but running to third it don’t wanna shift till I let off the gas. At the same time I’m trying to stay up to speed I press the gas and it seems like it’s in neutral then let off again and then goes into fourth and fifth just fine

@@CoolAirVw You bet. If you have to replace this VB, make sure when you put the new one back in, that you're shift linkage is reattached and your shift selector is set to 2nd gear!!! I did this job twice before learning about this crucial step.

Not sure if you mentioned this, but if your car shifts hard when the engine is cold and then it shifts good when warm, its your solenoids. If car shifts bad cold and warm, then it's the valve body that is bad. I hope this helps save people some headaches! *** This statement may not be true for all, it was in my case.

@@danieloshaughnessy8476 thats a pretty broad statement that I dont think would be accurate in every circumstance. Maybe it was accurate in your circumstance. Lots of times solenoids would behave that way.
