I have one. I also have an original Colt 1911, former US property. The Tisas is built better, and of course its machining is far better than what Colt cold manage in 1918. It's accurate and repeatable and it's just doing its job like it's supposed to. No drama, just good results and good shooting.

@@joeruiz4010RIA has a reputation of being good for the money, especially when it comes to 1911s. However, consensus online among 1911 aficionados deems that the Tisas is generally of better quality. Better fit and finish and better metallurgy, maybe even a better trigger.

@@joeruiz4010RIA also uses a cast frame on their budget 1911's. Tisas use a forged frame, not just the slide and barrel!!! Also.... It's machined after hardening, so the tolerances are tight and the gun is well machined!!! Also there's less potential for warpage like is possible when you heat treat a frame.

I shot the 1911 in the Marine Corps a bunch in the 80's before we went to 9mm. I've had a couple of GI copies over the years. I had a Springfield, Auto Ordnance and a Rock Island. People used to knock RI when they came out because they were made in the Philippines and cost a lot less. My Rock Island needed a new main spring. I bought a wolf spring and it shoots outstanding. Never fails. I have a Canik made in Turkey and have no complaints. The Tisas is probably a good gun. I've had 1911's chambered for 45, 38 Super, and now I have a 10mm. I've seen 380 and 9mm ones but never bought one. They all shoot great and rarely fail. The 1911A1 is still around because they're great firearms. We have a lot of options in handguns, not necessarily because one is better, but because we like one better than another. Or maybe because we like them all. LOL 1911 is still my favorite.

Had one in the past and it ran unlike all the $1k Kimber failures I tried with Custom Carry 2 & Stainless ll that I spent so much on having to buy 10 or more mags different brands just to make them shoot through an entire mag. This was my first 1911. The overall quality and trigger feel seemed well above the price level. I had some occasional malfunctions that I attribute to magazines and perhaps a need for a bit of extractor tuning. It was a really natural pointer for me at close ranges, but my eyes and those sights were a bad combination. I'm seriously impressed by your ability to hit with it at those longer distances. I have since traded it in on a Colt but the Tisas is a perfect low cost intro to 1911's, in my opinion. BTW, they do claim that the slide and frame are both forged on those.

Hi mate, as a South African I am limited to the amount of firearms I can own but to me an old 1911 showing its wear like a badge of honor is something I would love to own. The caliber is iconic and the pistol is absolutely poetry. Nothing looks like a 1911 with signs of honest wear and tear. I own a Star PD .45 as an EDC but will swop it for a worn 1911 any day of the week.

I bought a Tisas 1911 last year. Paid right around $400 for it. I've shot it several times and I don't find anything wrong with it. I've fired over 250 rounds of reman 230gr and haven't had any malfunctions with that. I did however have issues with feeding of self defense rounds in 10 round mags. I loaded one less round and that seemed to solve that issue. The problem is those self defense rounds are quite a bit longer than ball ammo. I used a 1911A1 when I was in the navy and it seems to be almost identical. I don't get any slide or hammer bite, but my hands are just a little smaller than Hickock45s.

That's because 1911's have on average a 500 round break in period. I found 200 rounds to be adequate for breaking in a Kimber 1911 that my buddy owns. But yea a lot of 1911's will have feeding issues with self defense rounds like jacketed hollowpoints if they havnt been properly broken in with the 500 round break in period. This usually always happens because 1911's were made and designed to shoot full metal jacket. So when aquiring a new 1911 it's best to buy a bunch of ammo up front with it as much as you can afford at the least if not able to get 500 rounds. And run those 500 rounds of full metal jacket thru the new 1911, after that 500 round break in period the gun will be able to feed self defense rounds such as hollowpoints quite smoothly and reliably. Also magazines are important as well you really want to use good mags, Wilson combat 1911 mags seem to be the most reliable and recommended mags to get for extra 1911 mags.

I got one the week before last (Rock series in patriotic brown). How long did it take for you to break yours in? I work security and I'm going for my armed guard card in 3 days. Going to qualify with my Rock Island because it's going to be my duty sidearm. Edit: The reason I ask is because I am required to carry JHPs for duty. Just wondering how many FMJs I need to put through it before it will feed hollow points without a problem.

According to the SDS imports website, the barrel, slide, and frame are all hammer forged. Just a beautiful Firearm! I recently picked up the 9mm version and it has been 100% reliable and accurate. I already own a stainless Colt Match gold cup in 45 ACP and was looking for a traditional 1911 A1 chambered in 9 mm as it is cheaper to shoot and in the case of Tisas, much cheaper to buy than a Colt.

My very first 1911. Coincidentally, also the first type of handgun I fired (my uncle Steve's 1911a1 that was Vietnam vintage). This handgun is the birthright of every American citizen, interestingly enough it took a foreign company to make it so accessible. I was stunned by the price and watched reviews on my phone in the gun store and snapped one up super fast! I was similarly impressed it came with a really nice Mecgar mag too. You just can't get enough of that sound!

Regarding "my uncle Steve's 1911a1 that was Vietnam vintage", if Steve's M1911A1 was marked "United States Property" above the serial number, it was manufactured between 1940 and 1946. All the officially issued pistols used in Korea, Vietnam, and peacetime up to the mid-1980s when the Beretta M9 replaced the M1911A1 were WWII-vintage guns.

Thank you Hickok45 for this amazing video. I love the 1911 pistol. It's my favorite pistol of all time. I would love to make a suggestion to you for a future pistol review. Please review and do a video on the Mossberg MC2c. This pistol is alot like a cross between a Glock19 and Glock48. I think you will love it. I don't see alot of reviews for it and I don't know how this pistol is not more well known. It slipped under the radar somehow but was at ShotShow 2020. Mossberg came out swinging with the MC2c. Hope you do a video on it soon. PS- Holsters for the Mossberg MC2c are very hard to find, but I discovered that Glock48 patterned holsters tend to work with the MC2c. Have a great day.

Best GI 1911’s on the market. With the exception of a Turnbull custom. But I. It’s price range. Nothing beats it. Easily as good as anything Colt has offered within the confines of a proper Government model, or A1. These Gov Models, and GI spec 1911’s are in huge demand. Why the industry got the idea that everyone wants one of those ugly 1911’s with an extended beavertail, and skeletonized parts, and ambi controls? I have no idea. A huge chunk of the 1911 community wants nothing more than a GI spec pistol with shitty sights, and basic controls, and sexy roll marks. Nothing more. The way J.B intended.

In that price range they are going to sell like hotcakes. Let's be honest, for that price a lot of people that have been considering a 1911 for a little while will probably go ahead and pull the trigger. Most people do not have hands as big as you guys so the slide bite may not be a problem for many people. Of course, hearing about the possibility of slide bite is great to know. Now, it's something to look for when "trying on" one of these pistols. Other than the finish color and the grip color it looks like a nice little pistol. It's obviously sighted in right out of the box and it has a nice trigger, that makes it a really great deal.
