My #Tissot Sideral has issues, erratic beat rate, amplitude and returned it in for servicing. After waiting over a month I received my watch back only to experience the same issues that I was experiencing the first time, erratic beat rate amplitude and beat error. Oddly enough the watch is keeping reasonable time but still just because a watch is keeping time doesn’t mean that it is running well , so back in for service she goes. I am sharing my story on my service experience with the #swatch group. I will follow up this storey when the watch returns from service. #automaticwatch #timegrapher #swatch #service.

Hello: I purchased a Tissot Chemins des Tourelles for on sale for $750.00 CDN three years ago from Peoples in Vancouver area with free shipping to Ottawa. So far it has consistently run at -1 to -2 seconds per day. I have not had it on a time grapher however. It has the Powermatic 80 (CO7.111) movement with the synthetic escapement and pallet fork. If it needs service from Tissot it will get a new movement. These movements are serviceable but it is cheaper just to replace it. I would like to invest in a time grapher and some basic watch making tools as I have my grandfathers 1913 silver case Omega railroad pocket watch that needs a cleaning and service. I have done some movement swaps etc. on quartz watches but would love to get into watch repair as a retirement hobby. I think the pocket watch would be a good one to start on as all the parts are larger than a wrist watch. The Powermatic 80 is basically a 2824 movement with different barrel, escapement, pallet fork and balance so there is no reason it can't be serviced. Cheers Bob in Ottawa

I don´t know the powermatic 80 well enough but the amplitude seems quiet high with over 340°. Maybe the movement is already "knocking" with that high amplitude?!

@@canadianwatchmonkey3992 did you check the watch with only a bit of wind in it? The rate should be stable with a low wind. Knocking normaly only happens at full wind.

You could always get an ETA 2824 or SW200 and take it to a local watchmaker to make the swap from the "powermatic 80" to the classic 4hz ETA. I have a discontinued Hamilton with an original eta 4hz movement. I don't think I will be buying into any modern swatch group watch with these new ETA based movements. Having 80 hours of power reserve is useless to me.

If you watch my first review of the Sideral I say that as a one and only watch I wouldn’t recommend it but as part of a large collection it adds some element of fun and colour. I have plenty of so called boring watches so this was a departure. 😊😊

I think you should try adjusting the beat error yourself and see if you can get those 2 lines closer together. Then see what the rate becomes and adjust accordingly. The printout they gave you honestly doesn't look that amazing and I bet you could get better results if you regulated it yourself. I got a San Martin with the Seiko GMT movement to about 3 seconds fast per day. 0.1 beat error.

The amplitude is too high - looks like it’s overbanked and this is causing the rate figure to jump about because of knocking from the roller jewel hitting the other side of the pallet fork. This could also be linked to the far-too-high beat error. For a modern watch it’s not common - perhaps the banking pins got damaged somehow, or ETA somehow put the wrong mainspring in the watch, neither of which seems likely, but those are the usual reasons.

Some years back, I bought a $1000 Tissot. Three years later, it was unrepairable and they offered me a $200 discount. Never again.

@@J0hnny8ravo Well visually this watch does not do it for me. I also do not love these movements at all, I don't understand why so many KZfaqrs give them such high praise, they have been problematic for me.
