Great video! Looks like a solid attachment. However, if they main reason you are aerating is to loosen the soil from equipment compaction, you have the wrong aerator. A spike aerator works by compacting the dirt with the spikes They do allow the oxygen and fertilizer to get in the ground as you mentioned. A core aerator is effective at allowing the ground to loosen. It pulls the cores out allowing the ground to loosen. There are pro's and con's to both but loosening the ground is not a pro for a spike aerator since it functions by compaction.

I was looking at that aerator. My biggest concern was the strength of the tines. How easy is it to bend them, say when hitting a rocks or roots? I like the looks of the aerations when you ran over the lawn though.

I heard them hit some rocks. There's a "PING" and then you feel the aerator hop. But so far no bent spikes or issues. Time will tell....

@@4-LOW Thanks. Right now is the time for planting grass. We also use the Kentucky 31 Rye. I've probably planted 5 acres with it so far and have had success. Definitely an Spring planting grass. I've had success in the Fall, but more success in the Spring season. Your results may vary though. We are up by Lake Erie.

I think the spanner bar on the Pat’s Quick Hitch is supposed to be taken off before you operate with the implement.

Are you still happy with it? I have 4 AC starting a new lawn in the Ozarks. Very rocky scared I might bend the tines.

If you get into rocks, the tines on this will bend. I have one or two bent already just from rocks that were beneath the grass unseen.

@@tmoneyman25 Between Altus and Lawton. Pretty far away I think. Nice looking set up, bought my self a Mahindra 28 max back in 2013. Yard is really rough, need to plug it and re-seed as well.

Reseed is not that expensive either. You do not need too many lbs per acres.

Claiming that spike aerators "compact" the soil is an overly simplistic take. Yes, you are not removing cores, the soil IS going somewhere, thru compaction. However, if you have deadpan ground, heavy clay, etc. the spike aerator will help. It will loosen the deadpan, allow O2 into the soil, along with; seed, lime top dressing, fertilizer, etc. On healthy turf it can stimulate root growth. Running the typical plug aerator "pull-behind" with a light or under-powered machine on compacted soil will often not be very effective.
