The 45-foot model was built by Digital Domain. But there was also a 1:8 scale model used in the Cameron film. The switch was made from the lights going out (45-foot model) to the 1:8 scale model, which breaks and is then seen sinking. This model was 65-feet long, 12 feet wide and 22 feet from the keel to the top of the funnels. We also did the Poop Deck at 1:4 scale, which you see at the end of the sinking, with 'TITANIC' going under the waves. The black and white photo you show is out of place. It is of Don Pennington and the crew that built the hull for the 65-foot half-ship. Only half because the rest of it is under water when they cut to that part of the sequence. The hull crew was a company that built real racing catamarans. This hull had to take the tortures of the breaking shot, but not be overly heavy.

Titanic's 4th funnel was not just for show IRL. It's connected to the only working fireplace, the kitchen, smoking room and even vented the turbine room. The plans even have a pipe sticking out the back.

@@TasminBassettArt to be fair the raising part went off a theory that they had early on on how to raise it, and because the movie was made before 85, they thought it was in one piece. The Russian uranium part gave it a good reason to be pulled up…which is funny the 85 expedition was partially Cold War related.

Chimney's? houses, and factories have Chimney's. Ships have Funnels! Also Titanic's Funnels were Never gold colored they were White Star Buff which is actually a peach yellow color. the closest color would be the buff yellow color on Coast guard vessels. Also lighten up Lady there was Nothing wrong with the raise the Titanic model. and the movie isn't that bad. It could have been better had they actually followed the Novel more closely But the book and movie were based on Clive Cluster's Novel and how People actually thought the Titanic may have looked on the sea floor untill she was actually found. So your review is Extremely unfair as it has it's fan base. So your being overly harsh to a movie that was made in the early 80's. Course what should we expect from someone who calls ships funnels Chimney's.

Clive Palmer's Titanic II will never happen, unfortunately. I finally allowed myself to let go of the hope I had held onto for so many years because I was tired of being let down and disappointed. If someone were to build it, though, it would ultimately pay for itself through revenue earned. Reservations would be backed up for years, being that so many people would want to step aboard and sail the ocean in a modern version of the most famous ship in history, but would no doubt bring in the 500 million it would take to build -- and much, much more. The longer anyone waits to build a modern replica, the less profitable it will be. Eventually, the generations that are in love with the Titanic won't even be around and all the generations afterward won't care about it one bit.

They are NOT called “Chimneys”……On a Ship, they are called “FUNNELS” or, in America, they sometimes refer to them as “SMOKESTACKS”. Secondly: “Raise the Titanic” was Not a “Borefest” as you referred to it. It was certainly a bit far fetched and did have some obvious inaccuracies in the model used however. It was a very well made and entertaining movie. Had some great acting and famous actors among its cast, and effects. A very unfair and disingenuous criticism of a classic 1980’s movie!!

I disagree 100% , Raise the Titanic expressed more appreciation to the actual ship that any modern Titanic film, inc James Camerons version. The line spoken after she came up...."Isnt that a beautiful son of a bitch!", also to have the films main character walking the decks taking in the beauty that once was, to then go to the stern and rehang the ships flag back in place, it all smacked of romance which was enhanced greater by John Barrys score. All modern takes on the disaster are more wham bang thank you ma'am
