Testing the range on one gallon of gas and taking my Long Tail Mud Motor to a really cool Historical sight!
The Pea River water levels at this time at the Elba gage was 0.34 feet
and down river at the next gage which is on HWY 52 was 6.04 feet.
The Elba Dam is supposed to be torn down in the near future and they give several reasons why they want to tear it down. The first one they mentioned is so sturgeon and other species of fish can migrate up the river for breeding.

I would figure the state would own the dam not just private owner? Maybe you can answer that for me. Thanks for always putting out great videos and knowledge.

It was privately owned and operated at one time but a group called The Nature Conservancy is taking it over. Thanks for watching and the kind words!

I ran it for 12 years, and I look over it. No one contacted me. He admits in his video, it was dangerous, but encourages others

Great video! Travis, is your boat a 12' or 14'? ...thinking of building the same mud motor and engine on a 12' jon boat, should get up and go! The river running around the dam now, for the last couple years, sort of makes the whole "to allow sturgeon to migrate upstream..." thing sort of disingenuous, since if a boat can go upstream, a fish surely can, as well! The outflow from the dam made a big, deep hole on the downstream side, where my brother and I used to come fish for catfish and alligator gar back in the late 70's. Stay Safe!

Yes for that was my thoughts as well if a boat can travel up it surely fish can too lol. My boat is 14 ft long and 36 inches wide and I see people putting them on12 foot boats and they usually use the six and a half horse or something like that but I think it all depends on the height of your stern.

There is proper ways of doing what u did , contacting the owner are taking to a representative for the owner.

Have you hit rocks with that boat yet ? I have a 1436 and it dents easy I feel like. and gouged mine out pretty good to. I think im gonna fill the dents in with weld and sand smooth!

Not to many rocks just stumps and lay down trees. I've got a few dents and stuff but not really to bad. Is yours a newer boat? Mine is an older one 86 model.

@Bamaoutdoors mine is a 1975 sears. Maybe mines thinner then most. We run rocky areas in VA especially in the drought. I have a 1436 with a 670 swamp runner. My fuel and battery up front. I’m adding float pods maybe those will help. My buddy has a 1436 with a 459 and he rarely hits. And he weighs 240 plus 140 for his motor. I’m small guy so with my motor and me is still less weight in the back but he has pods so we will see if it helps ! You think to fix the gouges filling them in with a tig welder would work ?

The float pods may help. I got a buddy that put some on his and it helps him but he's running an outboard. Let me know if it helps!

@@Bamaoutdoors I will let you know they came in the mail yesterday and yeah I mean as a fix not to help the denting in the first place. Just to you know make it look a little less tacky. I reckon I’ll figure it out!

I appreciate u wanting to document history, but u was trespassing and one of the reasons it's supposed to be torn down, is because of people doing what u did, and climbing on the structure which is private property.

I haven't heard that's one reason it's coming down but I'm sure lots of folks have walked across this dam like I did because there's a pretty good trail leading up to it. Oh and I did contact someone before coming here Thanks for watching.
