Great video! Travis, is your boat a 12' or 14'? ...thinking of building the same mud motor and engine on a 12' jon boat, should get up and go! The river running around the dam now, for the last couple years, sort of makes the whole "to allow sturgeon to migrate upstream..." thing sort of disingenuous, since if a boat can go upstream, a fish surely can, as well! The outflow from the dam made a big, deep hole on the downstream side, where my brother and I used to come fish for catfish and alligator gar back in the late 70's. Stay Safe!

Yes for that was my thoughts as well if a boat can travel up it surely fish can too lol. My boat is 14 ft long and 36 inches wide and I see people putting them on12 foot boats and they usually use the six and a half horse or something like that but I think it all depends on the height of your stern.

Enjoyed the mud motor videos ! You got me sold on one. We're over here in SE GA, with very similar rivers. What hp do you recommend for a longtail kit 1236 boat ?
@Bamaoutdoors

I would say the predator 212cc. I've seen folks use that one on a 12 foot boat with a medium swamp runner kit but it depends on your transom height. My transom on the back is 17 inches high so it works pretty well with my setup which is the 420 predator with the median swamp run the kit.

I live in elba Been here about my whole life I miss the dam being operable & allowing us 2 have deeper water 4 bigger vessels, not 2 mention cheaper electricity bills. When it 1st got a hole they quoted a price of 2 million 2 fix it, now it's 3.6 mill 2 remove it. I think removing it's gonna narrow our waterway even more, cause new unnecessary erosion paths, & worsen flooding below us. Not 2 mention sturgeon have already been spotted by multiple people already as far up as Johnsons. Just my 2 cents.
@Bamaoutdoors
@Bamaoutdoors 9 күн бұрын
Yeah it's a lot of money for sure and cheaper electric bills would be really nice lol but it seems like them days are gone. Maybe with all the hype around the dam they can work on the boat ramp in Elba. Our boat ramps in the area seem to get neglected.

It's a older model 14/36 tracker topper and the motor is a predator 420 which is a 13hp. I'm really not sure what the weight is but it's pretty light just by itself. As for a speed I can run around 15 give or take comfortably but my top speed is around 20 but your pretty much fighting it when you're running top speed because the long tail does try to jump out of the water on you because of the prop spin.
