8:46 Honestly, I’ve always thought Leo purposefully screams to alert Raph, as he knows Raph isn’t too far away and will likely hear him. Why he doesn’t scream the second he sees he has been darted, I can’t say (or…uh…because movie), but there are probably a variety of factors playing into this, both psychological and physiological. He’s just been drugged, his brother literally almost killed him only a minute prior, his swords are now broken (per the same brother who almost killed him), and, considering the fact that he has expressed that he feels like a failure of a leader more than once in this film, the fight with Raph has likely added onto this sense of failure and responsibility that he bears. So Leonardo is clearly not all there psychologically when he gets darted, and the drug has already started to affect him by the time he realizes he’s surrounded.
@Artryom
@Artryom Жыл бұрын
The way Leo says “I left to become a better leader for you!” Was delivered perfectly and he’s genuinely always thinking of his Brothers in his heart, so he’s really hurt by Raph still hating him despite how hard he’s trying to be better.
@that1nerd756
@that1nerd756 Жыл бұрын
@@Artryom Yeah, but Raph's feelings are valid too. Leo did just up and leave them, even if it was for their betterment, Raph feels like they should've stuck together because that's how it's always been. On top of that, Splinter banned them from fighting without Leo present, something Raph, a natural fighter, is bound to despise. He see's Leo leaving as Leo abandoning his duties to his family and their city, and in a way, he's right. Leo has a point too, but in my opinion, Raph has the moral high ground here.
@KM-oy2dw
@KM-oy2dw Жыл бұрын
@@that1nerd756 I think both are right and none has the moral ground per se. Yes, Raph has a lot of reasons to despise and resent his brother's actions, and all of them are valid and understandable, but at the same time, Leo didn't leave because he "wanted". He left because Splinter asked him to, so he could "become a better leader". It hasn't been exactly subtle (imho) how in earlier incarnations of the turtles, Splinter kind of saw them as weapons destined to avenge his past, instead of [people?/children?] with their own desires and burdens, and it's always been Leo the brunt of Splinter's desire for perfection, meaning that the pressure Leo had to leave was not born out of nothing, and I don't think (can't recall if the movie touched upon this) he exactly had a "choice", or more like, he felt pressured to. TLDR: Both Raph and Leo are right and wrong and they need to talk their differences over tea.
@that1nerd756
@that1nerd756 Жыл бұрын
@@KM-oy2dw Yeah, but Leo wasn't treating his brothers like brothers, he was treating them like foot soldiers. The best way to become a better leader for your team is not to just leave (alone, mind you) and then ghost your family for over a year even after you were supposed to come back. He should've stayed and worked with them, or had all of them come with. Leaving alone absolutely caused a rift, and it's obvious it would have. Leo was absolutely in the wrong here. Your view of Splinter is interesting, but definitely not touched upon enough in the movie for you to see it as fact and use it as an argument. This Splinter seems like a pretty good dad imo. (This movie is also a sequel to the original 3 live action movies, which I haven't seen in full, but I don't think Splinter was a bad dad there either) Also, what exactly did Raph do wrong, in your opinion?

Movie never says how the guy died, but it always felt kinda sus that Leo seemed so guilty when he returned to splinter, apologizing for some kind of failure. What did he fail to do? Save someone? Find an alternative outcome for a battle? Show restraint? These questions have haunted me for the past 13 years pls help.

Imagi studios was and still is a really underrated studio that I really wish had more time to shine. Their work with TMNT 2007 and Astro boy, two of my favourite childhood films is absolutely beautiful. The voices, animation and story are all well done in this film, if not a bit flawed as you've said. I won't go to in depth, but I'll say that this film has the most authentic ideas and design choices in any TMNT media. It would've been so incredible to see this series expand and grow but unfortunately we'll never see the day. An underrated masterpiece indeed.

The animation is stunning, the characters' designs are the best I've seen, and the characters themselves, holy shit! For once the characters have their own unique personalities outside of just being "the leader" or "the smart one" or "the hothead." Plus, my personal favorite change, the turtles actually act like teenagers! This movie has some of my favorite sibling interactions with the Turtles, there is no doubt they're all close and have "favorites" among each other while still looking out for each other. Also is fun to see them as young adults in this one (I believe they're supposed to be 19 in this movie?) because they're realizing they're leaving behind their adolescence and need to think about their future. Mikey's like the only one still being himself in taking his time to grow up, and the fact there _was_ supposed to be a sequel that would focus on him makes me sad. Would've loved to have seen Imagi's take on him. Splinter being into soap dramas is indeed the best thing ever that I'm glad has been a recurring thing to his character. I think this was hinted at in the 2003 cartoon as well, but them being more open about it here tickles my fancy.

Damn I remember watching this movie back when it released on theaters. I enjoyed it and it solidified me being a fan of TMNT. I started with the franchise from the 2003 series as a kid and even got their action figures (except the battle shell, unfortunately...). My favorite movies would be this, 1990, and Batman vs TMNT. I even had the first few volumes of the og comics and played their games like turtles in time, shredders revenge, and TMNT 07 video game. Overall, TMNT is incredibly underrated. I think they nailed the atmosphere of the TMNT universe and the soundtrack fits the theme of the turtles so well. Such a shame that it couldn't get to their full potential

I love TMNT 2003 so much, it was probably the first cartoon I ever saw that was quote on quote "hardcore"! Up until that point everything I saw was significantly more child friendly, think PBS kids. But then I stared watching 4kids and TMNT was my first exposure to those more intense cartoons. I loved it, I finally understood what all they hype was about because ever kid back then knew of TMNT even if they never saw it. Thankfully, I also discovered TMNT at the perfect age. There were tons of scary things in that series like people who turned into monsters, seeing Shredder get beheaded, Leo getting brutalized, and the Utrons, but, while the intensity and hardcore factor felt knew to me, it was never beyond what I felt like I could handled. But let me tell you, if I started watching the show say 3 years earlier I might have been traumatized! And TMNT opened up the door to a whole bunch of other intense action adventure shows I loved! I wouldn't have gotten into other shows like Spectacular Spider-Man, Huntik, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Transformers Animated, and even Avatar if not for TMNT. And today my favorite genre is action adventure cartoons (which admittedly isn't the best thing to be a fan of when it seems like no one besides Japan wants to make them anymore). By my own admission, I am not a huge TMNT fan, but TMNT 2003 will always hold a very special place in my heard because my taste in media would not be what it is today without it.

Now i'm wondering if i still have the movie laying around somewhere.

Watch it again if you find it, their fight scenes gets even scarier when you realize Leo is the only one in the movie that kills people. Raph catches criminals and whatnot, but Leo murders three cartel members in the first ten minutes of the film, and the movie implies he's been there long enough and kills consistently enough for the locals to associate him with his actions. Kinda scary to think what he would have became if he didn't return, honestly.

Even tho I consider it to be a great movie, people might not be drawn to it because of its animation style. I recently felt like rewatching it but when I saw screencaps I was hesitant to watch it. Animation style is not the best even unappealing so if that would be the reason for someone not watching it I wouldn't be surprised but still, it was an amazing movie

I unfortunately think we’re probably never gonna get a truly *GREAT* Ninja Turtles movie, simply because with all the variations of the franchise that there’ve been over the years when a new movie does get made they seem to be trying to appeal to a different part of the fanbase practically every single time, the original 3 movies and Out Of The Shadows were for the fans of the 80’s cartoon, the Michael Bay ones were trying to appeal to the standard blockbuster type of crowd and TMNT was for the fans of the 2003 cartoon, and due to the fact that the Ninja Turtles fanbase is so divided I don’t think there’s ever gonna be a Ninja Turtles movie that gets really great reactions from the general audience, for me I grew up with the 2003 cartoon and thus TMNT is my favorite Ninja Turtles movie because it appeals to fans like me, the first 1990’s movie is also quite good and comes in at a close second but TMNT just barely edges it out for me because it’s more in line with *MY* version of the Ninja Turtles

Funny enough this got me the idea of a "Immortal Man" story with the story going through those time periods instead of it being brushed upon like this. Will say there was a prequel comic that explains Leo and Raph's, while some of the stuff is explained in the movie so some of your nitpicks are redundant.
