TMNT: Shredder's Revenge - Gnarly No Death Clear (April O'Neil / Arcade Mode)

TMNT Shredder's Revenge is finally out! This is a brand new beat 'em up developed by Tribute Games, which was heavily inspired by Konami's classic arcade games, and the early 90s era of the series. I grew up on this stuff, so it's nostalgic seeing all of the references to the cartoon, movies, and games. They packed so much into it, that they ended up with a run time of nearly 2 hours, making this one of the longest beat 'em ups I've ever played. That'll be somewhat polarizing, but I don't mind the length, personally.
April is the fist character I cleared the game with, so I wanted to go back and do a no death run with her now that I've learned everything pretty thoroughly. She's still super fun to play, and I love her speed - especially after playing Splinter and Don back to back, lol. She's a beast, the only things she slightly struggles with are the heavy enemies, like the dinosaurs and rock guys in stages 13 & 14. They're still not a big issue for her, as long as you can single them out (or cleanly group them together) and get some combo resets or juggles in. But she's still one of the strongest characters, regardless. (I think Raph and Casey are still a bit better fwiw)
This will probably be my last Shredder's Revenge video for now. I'll be back if they release a significant update, or do some DLC. My wishlist would be a much more robust scoring system - even a direct copy of Streets of Rage 4's would be great. A playable Shredder would be cool, too, even if it makes no sense story-wise. And maybe some different colors to choose from. It'd be cool if you could match the color scheme of the live action movie turtles, for example. But the game is still awesome as is. If you're a fan of the classic turtles, you have to play it. It was made for you!
I'll be back with more TMNT once the Cowabunga Collection comes out, at least. I'm looking forward to that.

Another aspect of why April is deceptively strong is that her quick, multi-hitting strikes build meter VERY quickly...the later bosses are probably the only time I frequently taunt to fill the bar.

It's been like 30 years since I've watched the show, but I don't remember April ever kicking that much ass. She seems to be one of the strongest fighters in this game. She has practically infinite ninja power because of her rapid attacks.

Despite having the lowest attack power, April more than makes up for it with her high speed. Players should use April's speed to their advantage as they hit enemies with rapid-fire attacks. They should also take care to stay on the move so they can better avoid getting hit by enemies.

Gotta be honest here. Playing this game on gnarly difficulty is an equivalent of playing a Touhou game on lunatic difficulty. And yeah, I wouldn't forget about my father explaining me on how seriously hard the good old TMNT beat 'em ups are. Both of these series were my childhood to be honest. On top of that, April was the one that made my father much more open-minded to female characters in fictional entertainment. Especially the fact that he has seen her as an important HUMAN character.

Huh. April O Neil as a playable character on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Sounds to me like April O Neil got real tired of just being an average news cast reporter with a yellow jump-suit. So, I guess that means that she wants part of the action along with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But that's cool. I wouldn't mind playing her as a selectable character on this game.

There wasn't such character as Karai in 1987's cartoon. They made her in the two fightings on sega and snes, where she was Shredder's best student (not adopted daughter) and his formal apprentice in Japan's part of the Foot clan, but her appearance and attitude was very bland.

Wow! Your run is truly amazing! Your very videos are the reasons I bought this game on Steam. And I had such a blast, no wonder you liked this game. However, I suck at this game, and I keep dying, even on Normal difficulty. If you're willing, may I ask for some tips you have so I won't die that much on the game?

I guess for a general tip, be sure you're using the evasion button a lot. It's fully invincible while the animation plays out, unless you cancel it into the evasion attack. That attack also homes in on enemies, so you can use that as an easy way to get in. Running attack or jump is also a good way to safely engage most enemies. The air super is generally better to use than your regular super too, unless you're Donatello. Other than that, I'm not sure what else to add. 🤔

Even so, I think I'm going to rewatch all of your TMNT SR videos and copy your strats as much as possible. Hopefully I could do a no death run on Normal. @@aizatyusof9748 The only thing I can add to his good advice is to uses the 3 P's: Practice, Passion, & Patience. -Practice is a MUST in order to get better -Passion because you need to LOVE what you do in order to keep doing it. -Patience because skill development STILL takes time no matter how hard we work. Well done! I was just able to get this one last trophy, thanks to the infinite lives exploit you can use with the game! That of which sure saved my hide, as this tough as nails achievement would have been a real "platinum killer" for me if not for it too! (L.O.L!)

@@The-G.O.A.T900 Can you see the link I just posted? If not, here's what it says word for word. Ok, here's an easy way to do this if you have 3 controllers. You can use any characters but for the sake of clarity, let me define: P1 = Raph P2 = Leo P3 = Don 1. Start arcade as Raph on gnarly. When Raph gets to 1 life, press options for Leo and Don (so their faces appear at the top of the screen). 2. Press X to activate Leo. 3. Let Raph die and press NO to continue. 4. Play as Leo normally. 5. When Leo gets to 1 life, press X as Don. 6. Pause as Leo, select Leave. Then press X as Leo. You now have 3 lives. 7. Pause as Don, select Leave. Press options once so he's primed to drop in again. 8. Repeat 4-7 over an over. You have infinite lives. 9. Raph will be asked to continue at the start of each level, you can select no to prevent accidently pressing it. NOT SURE IF YOU NEED THIS STEP: When I was about to kill super shredder, I pressed continue as Raph and dropped him and Don in. Just wanted to make all turtles active to ensure I got the trophy. You CAN: 1. Suspend the PS5. Just reactive all controllers and figure out who they are assigned to. 2. Play with 2 players (or 3 if you have a 4th controller). Just make sure you never run out of lives at the same time. When one of you hits 1 life, have the other play safe while you leave and rejoin. Note: The game is scaled for 3 players, so it's not trivial as one player. Some bosses can be stunlocked but that fucker with the horns whupped my ass for a while. Warning: the game is buggy as hell. Sometimes Don was shown as active even though the turtle was nowhere to be seen. I paused him and made him leave and go back to that primed state (you can see arrows to switch other characters when it's like this) to make sure nothing weird happened. I also had a few scares where the screen wouldn't progress even with all enemies dead but luckily it eventually moved (got stuck like this in story mode once when it did not). There you have it. Go kick some shell, my brothers.

Hey man do you have any idea how the guy on the leaderboard got 7k points if it only goes on kills? Did he just sit there forever and let them spawn from a boss or something? As far as I can tell, you don't get more for harder difficulties or combos.

There are a bunch of points where enemies respawn infinitely, so yeah he just sat around farming them. The scoring system in this game is unfortunately a complete joke.

I think Raphael is the best character. Casey and April are pretty close too though. Then maybe it'd be Splinter > Leo > Don > Mikey. They're all really good though honestly, I just don't like Mikey's bouncing dive kick or running slide attack.
