She is such a unique performer. Such a lovely human..........Basically, the song is about surviving suicidal thoughts "The offering" . And she saw the light for the first time, which for me means she saw the faces of those that love her and saw her reasons for living. To me the "Letting Go" means letting go of those dark feelings and embracing your reasons for being alive (being lucky to be alive)

Her sister is open about her struggels with bipolare. Not like suicidal I think, but my guess is that for Aurora seeing her sisters dark struggels might have given insperation to some of her songs....

Yeah, I'm with you 100%. I also feel like with the repetition of "I'm lucky to be alive" at the end, almost like a mantra, she's trying to convince herself of the idea. Her tone and expression and the little cock of her head to the side when singing it for the last time makes me think she's not all that convinced after all. Aurora has the ability to imbibe life and meaning into a song on a level that I've never seen in anyone else. She's a unique and precious gift and I truly feel lucky to be alive to be able to witness such beauty and wonder.

The whole song is about surviving depression. Reaching the precipice of ending your own life, living through it and finally coming out the other side. The line in the mid 8 you were asking about "...I know that it's time, to let go," was more about letting go of her pain, and 'choosing' to be free of it. It's the moment of change in the story when the subject takes back control and commits to life and light, instead of wallowing in the darkness. Many survivors will point to a moment in their depression where they felt they were at their final crossroads and they had a choice of life or death. That choice is the starting point on the road to recovery.

I will tell you what I think. Since Aurora is self-taught singing and piano from when she was like 5 or 6, I think music became part of her language. She is not acting or making things up. She is just expressing herself through her language, which is music. It's so deep wired in her brain that it became just too natural for her. Most singers, since they were taught by others or learned much later in life, cannot achieve this level of spontaneity. It's is always something they have to think about, of course, it can improve but will never be "native". I think her performances come from an unconscious level. Therefore, you always get this "Truthiness" in most of her songs. Since those are true emotions they resonate with us and activate our mirror neurons. Unless you have some kind of mental disorder in your limbic system you should always feel something when exposed to true emotions.

Aurora doesn’t like to say what her songs mean because she prefers when we find our own meanings in the music she makes. For me, it talks about battling depression, suicidal thoughts and self harm, and finding beauty in life. For me, she’s not out of the woods yet, but she’s getting there. Edit: the part « let go » could be see both as dying or as letting go of the past.

While 'Lucky' can have as many interpretations as there are listeners....my own take is that it's almost certainly written from the perspective of the protagonist of Paulo Coelho's novel "Veronika Decides to Die." Aurora mentioned once it's her favorite book ever and she's read it 5 times over her life. So....I had to read it, and did. That's when it became super obvious Lucky was written with it in mind. Even specific lyrics make much more sense in that context. And yes...I'd agree the line "And I know that it's time....to let go" isn't as cheerful as it might seem, given what that "letting go" means for the character towards the end of the novel. It's a heartbreaking emotional real book about a young woman who finally discovers the value of her own life....only when it's too late to matter, because of a fateful decision she made weeks earlier. And now she has to come to terms with that ache. Definitely worth a read. It's a short novel too. Plus it's fun to read it while considering what Aurora must have been thinking as she read the very same words... :)

It’s amazing to think that Aurora never wanted to be an artist and that we might never have heard her at all. Thank goodness for the one person who told her that her music could be a medicine for the world and that of course was her mother and how right she was, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Aurora live twice now and I can honestly say that she is without doubt the best live performer I’ve ever heard as a songwriter she is head and shoulders above anyone else, this song Lucky that we have heard was written by her at the age 9 that alone is mind blowing if it was Lennon & macartney. People would be shouting from the rooftops then you find out about all her other songs that she wrote for her first album (all my demons greeting me as a friend) before the age of 18 it’s simply outstanding. What we are witnessing is something so special and we are truly blessed to have her music in our lives for her lyrics are poetry to our souls, you never get the same old cliches with her she simply stays true to herself and her beliefs, she has faced up to all the emotions that life has put in her way and now though her words and music tells us we too can face things with no fear as she said “let love conquer your mind”make your demons become friends, become warriors of love.see the world as a child.Aurora you are a Genius ❤️🍎stay safe fellow warriors.

... so I've listened and seen nearly all reaction videos about AURORA and I believe you're the one who comes next to the point she is and what she does with her art and her pure existing and veracity. Everything she sings and talks is and has always been in us all. The magnificence she has, which is naturely also a curse, is existing as a female entity thrown to this strange planet born without a filter, a pure soul and the gift to retain and remember the beauty and chaos of the universe. Singig to us "normal" warriors and weirdos reminds us how great our soul could be and we all cry of shame and consternation of how cold, scabby and fossilized we became. For me she is the one out of a hundred billion. Knowing that she exists makes me feel very peaceful, not hopeful because of course we will butcher the planet. After the next big bang maybe there are more of her kind and we won't fuck up. Good luck and all my love to all warriors and weirdos, witches and warlocks.

I think you're right about that middle section, that seems at odds with the earlier mood. Lots of people refer to this as an anti-suicide song, and the imagery makes sense in that view. I think perhaps that middle bit is about letting go of the confusion/desperation/self-loathing that brought on the suicidal impulse. Not about letting go and completing the suicide, but letting go and stepping into the light. Perhaps?

"The offering" is the suicide. The song itself is an anti suicide song and anti depression song. If you're about to take your life, remember the people you've met in life that you're leaving behind. Remember that there were also good times. Those times have passed. And just as the good times have passed, so will the bad ones passed. Nothing is eternal. You just have to persevere, take one step at a time and sometimes it's a success to just get through the day. But at some point it will go up, then it will seem to you as if you see the light at the end of the tunnel. The first time in a long time and then you will be lucky that you are alive. The last sentence sounds so devastating because the path has not yet been completed. The person is still on the road to recovery. And not everyone recognizes this, because you don't walk around beaming with joy but you can still feel good.

The tone/ pitch/ vibratto etc of her voice is felt not just heard. I believe it's because of a primal and physical reaction. Such as fingers on a chalkboard is also felt and heard. Think of Taps.... it's not just the melody, it's the sound that moves you. Sirens for example are created using certain sounds. A child's laughter, a baby's cry, a bird singing a song all are felt, not just heard. She was gifted with a natural beauty in her voice, and sings with emotion about feelings that as a human you .....just have. In short, her voice is as natural a reaction as is the sound of gentle flowing water to not only our ears, but our minds and bodies.

Like the analysis about how Aurora extends the long, pure notes and fades the word at the end. Never heard that before but I think it's one of her techniques. For me, this song is like a religious experience, one in which Aurora hugs your soul. Despite the setting, there's no dogma and no preaching, only a story to be told about a near-death experience.

Aurora is a hyper sensitiv person.... she feels very much when she "see" other peoples strugels, pain, problems... This song was written at age 9, and English not her first language. That factor in when I think about the meaning. It might be that a 9 year old non native speaker will say things that we as adults take different. Aurora say she have had a good childhood. The tragic is I guess her loosing a school friend at age 18, an a dear friend in the shootings at Utøya.

When asked in an interview by Bergensmagasinet if the line 'not everybody knows that I am lucky to be alive' was inspired by a specific event she said: "It can be interpreted in many ways. I am hypersensitive and very sensitive to everything around me when it comes to sounds, lights and the way people speak [the tone]. It was difficult for me when I discovered that not all children are as well off as I am; I thought a lot about how sad it was, and that I'm just lucky to have been born right here. It feels so random, like a stroke of luck, like something I can easily lose. There is a lot in the world that you can feel threatened by, things that can make you think that I will not survive this."

Listen without prejudice! That is the whole point of a first listen or a first viewing of a piece of art. You bring to it your own perspective from your own journey. IF the art inspires you then you go and dig deeper into the where what why and how. So many artists and musicians will tell you to do the same as they want it to mean something to you personally. This is where you find the passion to become a fan!

One of my favorite performances. In my opinion it is about depression so big that it could lead to suicide (offering). But then someone saw a light and realised that not everything is so bad. I really liked your interpretation of the song, and think it still fits with the last line "its time to let go", in the sense of its time to let go of the tragedy you experienced, try not to think about it too much, and live life in the light. For me, I always wondered if its about that old woman she talks about in her (early) interviews that she wants to become, that have lived life, have been places and have met people, and is now peacefully content with life and moves on. Or it could be a grandparent she lost. I haven't really looked it up. I like your attitude when you listen and react though, makes for great content.

Excellent reaction. I totally agree on not making too much research before listning or watching a piece of art. It's in the eyes of the beholder so to say. And I also think that Aurora's art is so powerful that it trascends even her own original intent. It's a mistical experience that does not need any premises.

This is without a doubt the most pure of all her performances to date... and I both agree with your approach and know that she does as well. As far as what the song means... well it means what it means to Aurora what it means to her, and to you what it means to you....and to me. there are intersections between these experiences, but no identities, like overlapping flower petals. // as for my own experience, it seems to me she is laying down her life by suicide--a theme from this epoch for her--and only in that is she able to appreciate life... the deep and dark paradox of a truly tormented soul that is only able to feel joy by taking that last step. /// is that her? of course yes and no...

I'm pretty sure Aurora is more interested in creating an emotional response in listeners, than whether or not they know exactly why she wrote it. For me personally, if this song were any more bitter-sweet and beautiful than it is, I might need paramedics on hand to listen to it. That climactic section at the end has the exact same effect on me as sections of the Bach Chaconne, which no other musical artist has gotten anywhere near.

I think the song is very much a reference to wanting to die, possibly by su!c!de, but then realizing you want to stay, but it's in the middle of the act like when she says, "the marks have settled on my skin..." Cuts. And being lucky to be alive might mean you survived the attempt and you realize how lucky you are to be alive. Sad, chilling, and very relatable to me and others...

I hope you have found your own explanation of the song :) My own is letting go of the pain behind you, letting go and moving on. For me this is the most beautiful "pro life" song i can think of. As much sadness that is in the lyrics, for me the message is just so hopeful, such a great message that no matter how hard things get. At some point , you will see the light in the tunnel. It will require fighting, it will require perseverance, butt its there. You just need to hold on.

I love what you said about that moment in the pre-chorus leading into the chorus, where she sings _"...from all the different places that I've been......that I've been...."_ I adore how she repeats that last line....and the specific note choice of it. The first time it sounds like she lands on the root tonic note. The second time....the major 7th maybe? Or a 6th? Just guessing. But it gives it this _sliiiight_ jazzy melancholy vibe that is just gorgeous....

It's interesting that you interpreted the last note as someone or something dying. For me, I interpreted it as catharsis after struggling with something for a long time.

Think your money is spot on the tip of the nose. Seeing hope from struggle. Beauty from pain . On the message of this song i think it is something like being in peace about your life as it might be ending. No regret.

There must be something in the water in Scandinavia. So many talents from there with angelic voices. Since you like Aurora you will probably also like Eivør (I posted a request on discord) and Kalandra. When it comes to researching the meaning of a song I can understand your point of view to just experience it without knowing anything about it. But I must say especially some emotional songs hit me deeper when I know that the lyrics don't just tell a fictional story but are based on true events. To give you one example: The song "Daybreak" was originally composed and sung by the popular Chinese artist Han Hong and later covered by Dimash. I saw several reactions to this song where people are laughing and having fun while listening to it but it is actually based on a very tragic event that happened in China. It's a beautiful song and I like when people enjoy it but I alwas have mixed feelings knowing what the song is about and those reactions feel kinda inappropriate to me. I want to tell them: "Can't you do some reasearch before listening to it." I think there is some truth to both points of view.

It may be something about the water 😅👍 You know the expensive “Voss” water? In Norway we drink that clean good water straight from the taps. Every home in Norway has really good and clean tap water, so maybe there is something to it😉🥰

You've definitely got to react to any concert video from Jinjer. Tatiana their frontwoman is incredibly powerful on stage, in addition to her amazing vocals. Perennial live at Wacken is the most popular concert video for folks who are new to the band, though Pisces live session is the video they are more famous for it has more editing so it is less ideal from a performance analysis standpoint. Pisces is a great video with some awesome presence and performance though, so it wouldn't be a mistake at all. Subbed. Cheers!

I never thought of Aurora as being depressed or suicidal. After reading these comments I fear that this whimsical magical beauty is in too deep and it scares the daylights out of me. I pray that God prevents her emotions from bringing her to the point where as she sang in Runaway, "I can't take it anymore." Dear Aurora, I love you, your worldwide fans love you. Whenever you think the bullshit is too deep just think of all the magnificent wonders life has for us warriors and weirdos who need your leadership to carry on the good fight.
