There are way cooler cannons too... everything from simple scatter cannons that blow up everything in front of it to huge, complex precision machines that can shoot 20 chunks, fire a sand stack to the height limit while breaking dozens of slabs underneath it, and nuke an entire wall even covered with water. There were even cannons that could bore a tunnel that was hundreds of blocks long instantly. Factions was fun, to say the least. And to be completely honest the ingenuity people used in what was supposed to be a simple block game is actually terrifying. TL;DR this was just the tip of the TNT cannon iceberg and the people who developed those other insane cannons should work at NASA

I recall years ago having "missile wars" as a pre-made map that a lot of KZfaqrs tried out. The concept of a missile in Minecraft redstone is hardly novel but the use of observer blocks has made them a lot easier to implement.
@johntrohn3158 Жыл бұрын
What’s cool is that it’s also possible to counter this missile with a curtain of exploding tnt launched by a cannon to explode it from a safe distance. Although it’s a lot more costly than the missile because it requires a lot of cannons to guarantee a hit. Edit: I wanted to add that a tnt countermeasure is, like, the least optimal way of countering it, but I’m willing to bet my left nut that it’s the coolest way.

I was a cannoner for my factions in the 1.6-1.9 era, and we had tech you wouldn't believe. Yeah slime blocks and observers changed the game, but nothing will ever replace the raw power, beauty, and complexity of even a 100 stacking .4s auto nuke. You build one of those, or better yet a 255 nuke auto, at 30 chunks out from a 300 wall sky base and set it up, and then just let it rip. Whoever you were raiding would have like 10 minutes to notice the attack, get members online, gear up, and either counter cannon or cregg your cannon in a direct attack before it broke through the walls. And then on top of that if the raid wasn't going well, you would self destruct your cannon so rival alliances of faction couldn't steal your cannon tech designs, like anti cobweb when that came out, reverse nuke, left/right shooters, or midair stackers. So much nostalgia. Hate that EULA shut down all the good factions servers, and I never even paid for stuff I just loved playing it even against players who paid ridiculous amounts of money for kits and spawners. Bet I could still make a 100 stack auto pseudo-nuke if I tried.

Back in Beta I had this massive TNT cannon I called the Macross Cannon that could launch 3 blocks of TNT over 500 blocks away with block on block accuracy. Also had a pirate ship with compact TNT cannons. One thing few remember is that water used to push lit TNT and compress it into a single block size, so it would all detonate at once with massive potential. So by dumping more and more lit TNT into a single trough, you could get insane ranges. Modern TNT cannons, where the TNT is not compressed by water, are not nearly as powerful.

They all do still have uses and shine the best in certain ways. You could set up the first cannon in a nice position to shoot over a wall or at a tower where a player may be inside of. Much easier to set up and practical. Second you could "snipe" players or builds and certain fortifications, time it with some buddies and you could raid someone who's probably protected by walls with arrows. Takes a while to set up but worth it for the aim. Second is basically a bunker destroyer, where the enemy is dealing with it, you could set up another at a different area or use it as a distraction. Which it's pretty much ideal for a distraction

Bro the nostalgia is on another level in this. I remember I used to make those 2012 tnt cannons all the time

Fun fact: The reason tnt minecarts seem so much more powerful is because they perfectly stack by default just by placing more down on a single rail. Normal TNT when ignited is smaller than a single block so just using a lot of dispensers will leave slightly offset tnt. This however can be corrected by pushing the tnt into a single spot after igniting it which can be done with water and pistons (it needs to be corrected on both the X and Y axis or else it remains off by a few pixels). This can be seen often in stab cannons in wargears and it is used in Cubicmetre's Orbital strike cannon.

We’ve easily had flying tnt rockets for at least 5 years. I can remember watching videos about them in highschool

Watching the 2012 tnt cannon was a BLAST to the past. I fondly remember making that and failing LMAO.

Feels like I gotta mention Mumbo Jumbo's missiles, and his tnt sniper cannon. We've come really far since the early days.
