The highest honor given for a career in film, the AFI Life Achievement Award was established by the AFI Board of Trustees in 1973. Denzel Washington will receive the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award, celebrating his life and work. The special will air on TNT on Thursday, June 20, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by an encore at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will also air the special in September, during a night of programming dedicated to Washington's work.

It's from a religious hymn I think .I'm not sure. I also liked it and tried searching but couldn't. Chadwick Boseman mentioned it in saying thanks to Denzel Washington for giving him an other students a paid tuition. It struck me as well. I think for me it says when you can ..pass on your skills and goodwillro those who need it. The world is in turmoil and we must respect and uplift people.

I am a senior and the older I get the less I understand. Why do "horrible" people seem to thrive and good people seem to suffer. I know it's not in every case, but too many just the same. I think Chadwick reminds Denzel of his young self. There is grounding (for lack of a better word) in both of them, a quiet dignity, the deepest of the deepest humility, that God placed in them. The fact that they acknowledge and thank God first, on each stage, without apology. It brings tears to my eyes, and I know that our Father in heaven is pleased with their worship.

It deeply saddens me knowing that he was suffering so much behind the scenes. He was such a strong person, and I just can’t believe that he was battling cancer while delivering speeches like this.

I imagine he'd have known he was Stage IV at this point. It's a testament to his strength as a person and his respect for/gratitude to Mr. Washington that he made the effort to be there.

Did yol notice how Denzel didn't clap with everyone else or praise himself after Chad said that he paid his tuition? well that's because when you give, truly give whole heartedly, you never take credit or scream "I did that" and only a man who knows God, can be so humble like that. So many of us need to learn that kind of humility. Also Chadwick is just the same. I really admire this in each one's Character-reflecting the image of Christ. I had to come back here and hear these words again. Chadwick-you have moved me. God Bless your family, and may you rest in eternal Peace.

I think Chadwick Boseman is one of the most under-recognized actors working today. I think Denzel knows it. He’s been turning out Academy Award worth performances for years with zero recognition. He should have been nominated for the James Brown biopic. But let’s not start down that road of shoulds... this was a lovely tribute.

soapnorm it’s not about awards. Chadwick first and foremost is a working actor. I’d take being a working actor over any award any day. Most actors aren’t even working actors. On top of that this man is playing in huge biopics AND got a major role in a the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE?????? This man has struck diamonds

lol "Under-recognized actors," is a reach because people recognized Chadwick before Black Panther. He was great in "42," "Get on up," and "Marshall." Just because he wasn't nominated for any of his performances doesn't mean he got "zero recognition." Hahaa

He didn't know Chadwick Boseman was ill. Those were beautiful words spoken, that's what brought Denzel Washington to tears. And also, everything came full circle. Sidney Poitier was to Denzel Washington what Denzel was to Chadwick Boseman.

Temitope Shittu I put him on the map, and made him a rising star. The movie itself, is just really choppy and the story structure is all over the place. I get that they where trying to break the formula of bio pics. But the execution of that idea falls flat. But like I said, Chadwick himself was great. The movie just didn’t work unfortunately

I believe so too he came to terms with it... but we still haven’t. I guess because his death was so unexpected. He didn’t want pity, he just wanted to make movies, do good and live life to the fullest. I do understand what he did, but it had to be so hard.😢

Zack Zallie not over the death of my DAD which he passed away in August after learning he had Pancreatic Cancer in June of 2020. But trying to hold on for our GOD and JESUS CHRIST keeps me going, my DADDY and my Children. But thanks brother GOD forever bless.
