I think William is a product of his generation where he feels instinctively uncomfortable about the concept of his inherited privilege and role even though I suspect he also understands its ceremonial and cultural importance. I also think he sees the circus that surrounds his family and thinks a low key constitutional role more alike those in Europe would be better for his family than the pressure cooked they’re currently subjected to.
