There are a lot of “holes” in crochet stitches. Because of this, it can sometimes be hard to know where to insert your hook to put the next stitch. Knowing where to insert your hook is vital knowledge to have for EVERY crochet project you complete!
In this video I will review where to insert your hook when you are working the basic crochet stitches specifically for the first and last stitches of each row, which is where it can get the most confusing!
There are multiple techniques that people use to complete a "turn" when crocheting in rows, so this video dives into those variations!

PS: if you haven’t done anything with the squares yet, save them and label them as what you were showing - then use them in future videos to show what the difference is and refer people to this video if they want to do a different turn than you show.

I’m so happy I came across your video. Just last night I couldn’t get my turning chain to look right, on a blanket I’m working on. I was ready to retire the yarn for a while. Your tutorial is a godsend! I got it now. Thank you for going slow and explaining everything. ❤🧶

I've never seen anyone crochet this way with the hook down and then loop the hook around the yarn to pulling through. It really reminds me of how sewing works. I was rotating my arms so much. This seems way more efficient with a little practice. I can't wait to give this a try. Just out here learning the basics and stumble into this cool technique.

This video has really helped me make a bit of sense of these chain stitches as in other videos I was watching, I was really confused by different people making a different amount of turning chains or putting the hook into 12st, 2nd, 3rd etc stitches with no explanation for the actions. I'm not saying I've completely "got it" but I feel less like i'm winging it. I have been able to knit from a young age but always fancied crochet as the patterns look amazing, but when I attempted it a couple of years ago I was really put off by really wobbly edges and not really having a clue what I was doing - I am going to watch all your videos and take notes for each stitch for what works best for me. Thankyou! (Only criticism would be that you could go a wee bit slower and zoom in a bit more clearly when illustrating the tricky bits, like which hole/stitch to go into ).

Hello, thank you for your educational tutorial! It was very helpful! Have you ever made a potholder with the half double crochet thermal stitch. And which turning method would you suggest I use? Please and thank you!
@CraftywithAshy
@CraftywithAshy 6 ай бұрын
I haven't done a half double crochet thermal stitch before. I have done the single crochet thermal stitch, and I treated it as I do regular single crochet, so I didn't do a chain, just pulled the last loop slightly bigger and turned. I would probably approach the half double thermal crochet the same as I do half double crochet, so for me that is chain 1. Honestly, I tend to play with the stitch for a few rows with the method I think will work best, then if I don't like how it is coming out, I frog it and switch. But yeah, I would start with trying chain 1. Thanks for asking! I'll have to look into that stitch more!
