This is so much easier than the insert, pull up, twist, and insert again and then go crazy because it doesn't look like how they did it in the video way I was shown before. Your way is so easy and can be used for any height of crochet stitch. Thank you I can grow my hair back again!!! Teehee 😊🤣

I am SO impressed. I've seen a lot of video tutorials giving ways to straighten the edges on rows of DCs, and even came up with one myself that works quite well - but in all these years I've never seen this technique before. My technique would *not* work in the round, and I'm betting this would look better than almost any other way of adding rows in the round. Kudos!

I've watched a few videos on this technique and in my opinion yours is the clearest and easiest to follow. I also appreciate the added info on how to use this stitch in the chain for your first row. Lately I've been doing my projects starting with a chainless foundation row which I love, but I'll keep your info on working it into the chain as well. Thank you!

I make and donate quilts and crocheted blankets to Protect Linus, and am always looking for new stitches for these blankets that work up fairly fast. Any suggestions on any of your videos to watch?

Very good, easy to understand. However, I always knew this as "Turning Single Crochet" aka TSC. "Stacked" makes more sense, though. It describes what you are doing.

For a hdc row I would do 1 ch but work a hdc in the same st (the ch wouldn't count as the first st). I hope that helps!

For single crochet rows you would simply ch 1 and work a single crochet in the same st or the base of the ch-1 (the ch-1 will NOT count as a stitch). I hope that helps!

If using this method in your starting chain, and your starting/turning chain is 3 (as in your example) and you did your first stack in the 2nd chain (instead of 3rd), does that mean you would reduce your pattern by one? I’m still new and learning. Thanks in advance 😁

Karen - so glad you found it helpful! It does depend on whether you are going to count those skipped chains as a stitch or not. For example, you have a foundation chain of 10. If you worked this method you would end up with a total of 9 stitches. If you skipped the first 2 chains and work a dc in each ch you would have a total of 8 stitches if you don't count the skipped chains as a stitch but 9 if you do. I hope that helps!

I am happy to help if I can! Are you trying to end a double crochet row? If yes, you would simply work a double crochet stitch in the last stitch and your last stitch would be that stacked single crochet stitch from the previous row. I hope that helps!

So glad you found the tutorial helpful! I am happy to help. It would depend on if the pattern calls working into the 3rd or 4th ch from the hook for the first dc and if they are counting the skipped chs as the first stitch of the row. If you are using the stacked sc stitch for your first dc of the first row you work it into the 2nd ch from the hook. If you are designing a pattern and want an even number of stitches at the end of row 1 you would add +1 to an even number of foundation chains. For beginners I typically recommend working the first row of the pattern as written and then for all subsequent rows use the stacked sc method for the remainder of the project. I hope that helps! 💕🌸

Tonya, If you were to remake all the Rhapsody Blankets again or any blanket- which technique do you feel is the best to use for reducing gaps? I am thinking I may use this one from now on because of the way it helps with straightening and even ease for borders. My only problem is the count- I have such a hard time with stitch count anyway so I think I need to brush up on that and it makes it all the harder when I use different techniques than the designer I am not sure if I need to even follow the designers count anymore or my own then- ugh I probably make no sense. Thank you for all you do as I love the way you seek to find what works best and share with us always. You are genuine

If I were to remake all of my Rhapsody Blankets again I would definitely choose this technique the Stacked SC. Such an easy technique with nice straight edges. One thing you could do if you find it hard to adjust the starting row of a pattern is to work the foundation row the same as the designer's pattern - dc in 4th ch from hook, etc. Then for all remaining rows you could start using the stacked sc. This eliminates the need to adjust that first row! I hope that helps. 💕 Tonya

@@juliew6137 My favorite way of working half double crochet turning chains is a chain 1 then working a hdc into the same stitch at the base of the chain 1. However, if you wanted to try the stacked sc I would recommend trying a small swatch with half double crochet stitches using the stacked sc in place of the ch 2 turning chain. See if ends being taller than the hdc rows you are working. You could working those sc stitches more tightly to get a more compact/shorter stitch. I hope that helps!

Absolutely Sharon - I should have mentioned it in the video - for a double crochet row 1 you will subtract 1 from your foundation chain when working this stitch. I hope that helps!

If I decide to start a row of DC with a chain, I only ch 2. The number of times I pull through at the end of the stitch. I also have used the elongated/stretched double crochet. This is a nice technique. How do start a row of HDC this way?

So typically with a row of hdc I will do something a little different - ch 1 at the beginning and then work a hdc into the same st at the base of the ch-1. I hope that helps! 💕

You will place your last stitch of the second row on top of the stacked sc stitch through both loops. Insert your hook under the top two loops of the single crochet stitch. I hope that helps!

Happy to help! You would use this technique for the rows of dc only. On the sc rows you would simply ch 1 at the beginning of the row. I hope that helps!

How would you change to a new color at the end of the row? Would it be when you turn and start the first single crochet?

I typically change color at the end of the row with the last yarn over and pull through to complete the last stitch of the row. I hope that helps!

Happy to help! If you were to use this method for a foundation ch you would subtract 1 from your foundation ch. Example beginning with a ch of 10: working in 4th ch you would have a total of 8 sts including the skipped chs as a st; you would have a st count of 9 if you used the stacked sc method. I don't do anything special for single crochet rows - if you chain 1 and work a sc stitch in the first st at the base of the ch-1 you won't have a gap. I hope that helps!

Great question! Rather than using this technique for the hdc stitch I would recommend working a ch-1 and then working a hdc in the same st. I typically only will use the stacked sc st for dc or taller stitches. I hope that helps! 💕

This tutorial will help with the gap you get when you are working a turning ch-3 at the beginning of a row. With a sc pattern this technique would not be useful. Simply ch 1 at the beginning to work your single crochet row. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching 💕🌸
