Travel mantra to live by: If you can’t carry it on you don’t need it. I traveled for a work for many years and living by that mantra both made my life easier and saved my butt many times.

Some great tips there. We started traveling internationally a few years ago, our first trip being 22 days and making the decision to carry on only. We've never checked a bag since. One thing we found super helpful is packing cubes. It's compression packing with organizing, so you dont have to make a mess of things when you need something.

Absolutely love my KotaUL backpack, and I haven't even taken it on enough trips. I did actually use it on a three night trail hike on a section of the Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota. It performed extremely well on that hike, and recently I have used it on two flights to Arizona on vacation. I was able to pack for a full week and fit it underneath the seat as a personal item. I don't know if every airline will accept it as fitting underneath the airline seat. And on my bucket list will be a flight to a trail hike with this backpack and everything I need to camp overnight on the trail. I will also agree with your clothing choices, your Merino wool Tern shirts are awesome. Cant wait to learn more about your new shorts too.

@@thetaysonwhittaker Yes I was curious if they would make me pay to have it as a carry on. But I have flown round trip to Arizona twice now without issue. I hope non hiking and camping people are introduced to your KotaUL its a fabulous backpack for traveling.

Used my Kota on a trip to Hawaii recently. Worked great. Appreciate the tips. Considering a mission trip to the Philippines in a few months and trying to be even more efficient.

That's awesome! KotaUL was actually named after a city just across the way from the Philippines called Kota Kinabalu! It was literally built for trips like that! 😉

I used my kotaul backpack for the first time this fall on a walk on passenger only ferry trip to Canada. It worked really well. One caveat though, don't buy too many books to bring home!

Like the pack idea! Did I miss the part about socks? If there is any walking/standing involved I carry Injinjis. I'm diabetic, so they have proven to be a necessity.

Currently using the MTN hardware redeye 45l... should've gotten the kotaUL 😞 Anyways, tip for everyone: Always get a hard map of some sort once you get to the destination. I can't tell you how many times a base bus or subway map we're useful.

@@gazza1858 I love Mountain hardwear. I have multi-pitch 20, crag wagon 35, and the red eye. The red eye is basically a single compartment and 3.5lbs alone...

Did you wear boots? I'm just curious. Because I live in Europe. Rain and crap weather. No snow, just crappy soggy British weather, and boots are a MUST in the hills.

Have a question for you, why nearly all US companies , including yours , does not ship to Malta Europe ?

This is something we hope to improve in 2023...If we don't ship at all to your country it's typically because we've lost a lot of packages shipping there. Could be time to re-evaluate though...

I’m not sure their specific issue, but I know that it’s a logistical nightmare for a lot of US companies to ship to Malta

Unfortunatly this is mainly an ad about your gear. Plenty of other companies make similar gear, i notice that majority of gear makers refuse to provide details on what actual fabric is being used and what testing method thay are using for their claims. ie, what treatments to fabric,independent testing results etc.As a side note, wearing a mask is not effective if you have a beard, you do not get a good seal. Natick labs in the USA and others have done testing on this.

Additionally, he made no statement on his opinion on masks, nor did he make an official statement from OV… he simply notated that his reasoning for having one, had to do with local policy on health

"Unfortunately"? At what point were you under an impression it was something else? He owns a gear company. Why would he not promote his gear, which is amazing BTW. Sure plenty of other gear companies make similar gear, so watch their videos about the same topic, but you're going to find that difficult to find. Side note, this isn't a mask debate. Some countries require it, so therefore, he had one.

@@gazza1858 I am not a creator, but that doesn't mean I can't be a minimalist and do better than him. My bag, for example, weights less than 600 g. It's a very simple water resistant duffel pack. I use a single GAN, ultra small charger, 65 watt, for the laptop, the phone, and the kindle. I do not carry another charger because I don't need it. Most of the stuff he carries is superfluous. I travel with a 40 liter bag, no matter how long I have to stay in a place, if it's for 3 months or 3 days, I always use the same bag. According to the season I travel with a soft or a hard shell, and if it's cold I have a packable vest and a packable jacket, otherwise I just bring one light jacket and the soft shell, which is enough to protect me from wind and light rain. All my stuff, included the severe weather packs into its own pocket. I can live with the content of a 40 liters bag, everywhere in the world.
