Thank you! That’s basswood, and I buy basswood blanks in one of the Russian online stores, but, unfortunately, they do not ship outside of the Russian Federation. But I also bought blanks here (only 1 time, because the shipping is too expensive) - mychipcarving.com. I liked the quality.

топориком удобнее намного резать такие рисунки, он пяточкой в любую щель подлезет

I was working with my Flexcut Skew Knife for two or three years, and decided to work with another knife. And now I can say that I like this home-made knife more.

the blade looks slightly curved; is this preferrable? also, i'm supposing the flatter handle and longer blade is better for multi-level chip carving?

For me yes, it's preferrable. When I used to work in the church workshop. I work with a knife that had a pronounced tip, and that was very helpful for me in carving the things I was working on. And when I asked about chip carving knives, I always answer that there are no rules in knives, there are only rules in carving. So, use the knife you like; remake a knife you have until you like it; or create a brand new knife that will suit you in every way. Yes, this knife I am working with is not to wide and narrow for multi-level chip carving.

Добрый день! Все орнаменты я рисую с помощью линейки, циркуля и твёрдого карандаша; отдельные элементы (такие как, например, те закруглённые элементы в центре орнамента) я стараюсь рисовать от руки (кроме разметки размера) - и глазомер поддерживается, и рука набивается.
